Chapter 57 - Chapter 56: Keeping Up Appearances

The Duchene Estate, Leighton England (1763)...

Sir Alfred Remington had been pacing quite a bit as he attempted to sift through the crowds of people well-dressed and pleased to be in attendance at the former Governor's eldest son's wedding. Casimir had quite a reputation and news of his impending nuptials and the fact that he'd been looking forward to them gave everyone pause when it came to wanting to know just who the bride had been that had garnered the attention of such an affluent and carefree young man to the point of making him want to settle down like anyone else. It was a rare thing to note that Alfred's problem child had not at all been Casimir, who was as nervous as can be about his wedding, even more so when he had not seen neither hide nor hair of his baby brother following their less than ideal run-in before the younger lad took off for parts unknown and stayed gone for weeks on end.

Alfred continued his pacing as he awaited his son's arrival at the side door knowing all too well that Alain had not been keen on making an entrance nor sifting through crowds of strangers and acquaintances alike. He had not seen his son in weeks but from what he'd been told by Noreen and Casimir both, he'd been apparently at odds with them and they had not seen him since either. Alfred's concern for his dear son seemed to increase by the day as he was rumored to have been up to no good, a scoundrel in the making that found a way if any way to drown his sorrows into the bottom of a bottle before trying his hand at fisticuffs and sporting a few new bruises and another mark against his formerly pristine reputation.

Alfred had not wanted to believe the rumors and settled for seeing his boy for himself but he had to admit that his being late had given him some cause for concern. Alain had been quite the punctual one ever since he'd been a boy and this new shift in attitude left a lot to be desired in terms of how his son was handling himself in adulthood.

The subsequent Elder Remington didn't have to wait for very long as a clean and freshly shaved Alain made his way into the manor, his attire neat and tidy as always and mostly black in accordance with his usual style. His hair had been combed neatly as well and he looked as if he'd gotten a decent night's sleep. He was certainly a far cry from the stories his father had heard about him since the announcement of Casimir's engagement to Noreen.

"Alain," said Alfred pleased to see his son so well-kept and apparently only fashionably late to his elder brother's wedding.

Alain moved swiftly toward his father extending his hand in respect as the elder of the Remingtons extended his own in greeting and placed a firm hand on his son's shoulder.

"Sorry to worry you, Father," said Alain meeting the older man's eyes. "It was an interesting trip attempting to make it back from the city."

Alfred had no doubt about that given how packed the place had been with people all looking for a reason to show off their collective new outfits and indulge in idle gossip while sipping expensive wine and dining on fine courses paid for by the host. Any party Alana had the pleasure of throwing had been the highlight of their mundane lives and as such people flocked to her estate in droves to be a part of a good time.

Alain for the most part seemed to be in good spirits. Alfred had been pleased to take note of this given all the rumor and speculation as to what his youngest and only namesake son had been up to in the recent months following his elder brother's engagement party.

"Well it is good to see you have come around to the idea of your brother being married," he said more than a bit proud of his son for coming to his senses.

"Of course," replied Alain as politely as possible. "Did you expect anything less, while it is true that I am not a fan of his new bride, I am not one for making a scene at a party."

Alfred seemed satisfied with his reply and nodded in approval. Although he had his doubts as to how his son would hold up after the wedding.

He took his leave of his father and went to mingle with the other guests. Much to everyone's surprise, he'd been quite charming and well-behaved. Alfred had been comfortable in the fact that Alain appeared to have been back on track after the business with the engagement party and sought out his wife to tell her as much. They had both been quite worried about him, especially considering his lass had broken off things with him at the same time Casimir had been well on his way to becoming a married man.

Alain had been usually charming and polite even catching up to the wine server and helping himself to a glass. Alana had been puzzled as she watched her son from afar and wondered where the guest of honor, her elder son had gone. Alain smirked as he noted the notion of panic amid the servants as Casimir had not yet arrived and it was his own wedding.

It wasn't long before Alain received the usual instruction to see where his wayward elder brother had gotten off to, but of course, he'd known exactly what Casimir had been up to on the day of his wedding, drinks and as many whores as he could shove his fat cock into, and a few male servants to boot.

Alain rather graciously took up the task of retrieving his brother for his mother's sake knowing full well that this is the man his Noreen had chosen to spend the rest of her life with, Casimir Duchaine, the local horn dog and resident drunkard aside from himself.

As he exited the manor and headed toward the street, Alain had been greatly amused at all the fun he'd have once the wedding really got underway.
