Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Wall

My father's face became emotionless as he responded. "You are no human. And you are no longer my son." He then turned away and raised a hand, telling the guards to proceed with his orders. They started to drag me away, and I screamed as my father helped my mother to her feet. "YOU WILL REGRET EVER CROSSING ME!! YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT THE STONE OF SUDRE!! I SWEAR TO THE GODS THAT I'LL FIND THE OTHER HALF OF THAT STUPID STONE IF IT KILLS ME!! I WILL DESTROY YOU WITH IT AND FINALLY TAKE BACK WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE!!"

The guards turned me around and continued to drag me to the front door as I tried my best to fight my way out of their grip. I noticed that my brother Dymas was standing there, leaning against the frame of the door with a smile from hell directed at me. He had curly black hair, and brown eyes that were innocent enough to fool my parents from what a deceitful little shit he was.

He always acted so cute and good-hearted around my mother and father, and he became the obvious favorite. But once their backs were turned, he would do things just to make my life a living hell. Granted, the only thing I ever did to him while we were growing up was kick his ass, but that was only because he was annoying. I couldn't describe how angry it made me to see him take pleasure in my being exiled.

Once we approached the door, the guards stopped as Dymas spoke to me. He raised his hands like he was placing an invisible crown on his head. "I can feel it now. Infinite power that is all mine. That's what I get for being the smart one. Be sure to send me a postcard from inside the monster that will no doubt devour you. Not because I'll miss you. No one will. I would just like to know how you died out there."

I then smiled at him which made his own turn into surprise. My eyes said 'I'm going to kill you', but it still caught him off guard. "See you in hell," I said calmly. He raised an eyebrow and the guards then took me out the door.

Reinthoria was a very large kingdom, and the castle was in the very center. There was one direct path from the palace to the wall gates that was extremely long, and the guards made me walk the entire length of it. They escorted me while crowds formed around the path as word traveled about what happened. I felt humiliated as the crowds of people around me whispered and pointed.

It was clear that my brother was right about no one missing me from their judging looks and hurtful words. I felt humiliated, but the reason for that was because my reputation was ruined. I didn't care at all about what the people thought of me as long as they knew I was strong. But now all they saw was another weak fool victim to the stone of Sudre.

Words could not express how angry I was at my parents for doing this to me. I still couldn't believe what happened, and how they could've betrayed me like this. The throne was the only thing I ever wanted, and they took it out from under me like a rug I was standing on.

After an hour of being pushed through the city, we finally reached the wall. It was very large, and black in color so it could blend in at night. More knights stood on top of it and around the outside to keep watch for any daylight beasts that might wander too close. I struggled harder as the gate opened and they pushed me towards it, but it was no use. Once the gate had opened enough, they then shoved me out.

I landed on my stomach on the dirt outside, and the chains around me suddenly disappeared. Before I could stand up, the door slammed shut behind me. I then stood up quickly and banged my fists on them. "GET BACK HERE!! YOU'LL REGRET THIS ONCE I GET THE OTHER HALF OF THAT STONE!! I'LL STOP AT NOTHING UNTIL I HAVE IT!! THEN YOU'LL BE SORRY!!"

No response came from the other side and dropped my fists to my sides. "They'll be sorry..." I then turned to see a thick forest behind me. It started a short distance away, after the plain of land surrounding the wall. I clenched my fists tighter and walked to where my helmet had fallen off of the hook on my belt and picked it up. I then put it on and started to walk towards the forest. 'I will find it.' I thought.

I might've not been the most rational person, but I was a determined one. I always achieved what I set out to do with the utmost persistence. I have never passed the line of the enchanted forest before Reinthoria in my life, but I feared nothing of what lay ahead. I had a sword and a mission, which was all I needed.

The only chance I had to get back my throne was to somehow find the other half of the stone of Sudre, and challenge the king with it. I didn't know how I would find it, or where to start looking, but I wouldn't stop searching until the day I die if that's what it took.

To avoid further humiliation and being identified by whatever beasts and creatures that resided in the forest, I decided that I wouldn't remove my helmet until I found the stone. I wanted to be proud of the face I was born with, instead of being recognized as the prince of exile.

I spent days and nights walking through that forest, but it felt like I was heading nowhere. Everything looked the same as the weeks passed, and I lost my sense of direction because of it. I couldn't sleep at night either because as soon as the sun set, goblins and trolls would come out of their hiding places and try to eat me. I killed them easily, but they didn't stop coming until morning. By then I didn't want to lose a day of searching in order to catch up on sleep, so I kept going.

Now I realized what a luxury it was to have always had food ready for me back at the palace. I hadn't eaten in days, and finding something to eat was very difficult. I couldn't eat the monsters I killed because their meat was poisonous, and I didn't know what fruits that I saw occasionally on trees or bushes were safe for humans.

Despite the constant pain in my eyes and stomach, I continued forward without any desire to stop. During the daylight, I would usually see the mystical creatures I read about back in Reinthoria. I didn't bother to interact with them since they would usually run, fly, or swim away when they noticed me. I doubted that they would know anything about the stone of Sudre anyway.

I saw small fairies that glowed bright and left a trail of sparkles behind them as they flew around the forest. Once in a while, I would pass a river where mermaids and weird fish were hanging out on the sides and having fun. Satyrs would be around, playing flutes and games, and sometimes when I would climb a tree to see where I was, there would be giants walking around in the distance.
