Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Adventure Buddy

One day when the sun was at its highest point in the clear sky, I was walking through a quiet part of the forest. I was getting annoyed with how unlucky I've been with my search, and that I haven't even seen a landmark yet so I would know that I wasn't heading in circles. 'Ugh! I've been walking through this forest for at least a couple of weeks and I'm still nowhere near finding a clue to where the stone is!' I thought.

Despite my doubts, I pushed on and continued walking with my fists at my sides. All was quiet for a few minutes until I suddenly heard someone shout behind me. "Oh my gosh!!" I stopped walking and turned around to see a fairy behind me. She was still plenty shorter than me, but she was the size of a human. She was flying in place a few feet off the ground, and her wings looked like that of a butterfly's instead of the leaf-shaped ones I'd see on regular fairies. She wasn't glowing either, and her wings were a sparkly pink and were as big as her body, yet made no sound as they flapped.

She had long pointed ears with star earrings and wore a skirt of large pink petals that looked like she was wearing a rose, and wore a top of petals around her chest as well. Her eyes were big and bright green in color, and just as sparkly as her wings. Her strawberry blonde hair was long enough to graze her ankles, and it was thick with big curls. Her hair parted in the middle of her head, and the first bunches of hair closest to her forehead on either side were tied back, while the rest fell under them like a waterfall.

In the same second I turned around, she flew towards me with a big smile and grabbed my wrists, making me spin around with her. "Gah!" She stopped spinning and hovered in front of me excitedly. "You're a human! You're a human! I can't believe it! I've never seen a human in the enchanted forests before!!" I then pulled my arms out of her grip angrily and started to walk away thinking that she would get the hint to get away from me.

She didn't and followed next to me without her smile fading at all. "Are you a knight?! That's so cool! Do you save princesses and fight dragons?" I rolled my eyes. "Leave me alone whatever you are." She then pointed to herself. "Oh right, how rude of me. I'm a fairy and my name is CherryMay. But you can just call me May if you'd like." I then pointed to the glowing dots in the distance that I often see with leaf-shaped wings. "If you're a fairy, then what are those?"

She laughed a little and patted the top of my helmet. "Those are pixies, silly." I then smacked her hand away and continued walking forward faster. "Stop following me." She caught up to me and flew backward so she could continue speaking to me. "Sorry, I'll let you be in just a moment. I just have so many questions for you! Like what do you look like under there?" I stopped walking again as she reached to take off my helmet and grabbed her wrist. "That is none of your business."

I then pushed her away and she gave me a confused look. Her smile quickly returned and she shrugged. "Alrighty Mr. Mystery! Next question, what's your name?" I tried to walk past her but she blocked my path. "Don't be shy! I'm sure you have a beautiful name!" My patience was running out with her and I sighed annoyed. "If I tell you, will you get the hell out of my way?"

She nodded quickly and I groaned. "Fine. It's De- I mean. It's Rin. Just Rin." Her smile brightened. "See? It's a lovely name! I don't know why you would be so hesitant to share!" She then moved out of my way like she said she was going to, but she continued to follow me as I started to walk again. "Last question I swear! What brings you out of your kingdom to visit the forest?"

I rolled my eyes. 'What's with this nosey fairy? Can't she tell that I don't want to talk to her? I seriously doubt that she has even heard of what I'm searching for, but I might as well see if she knows anything. At this point I'm desperate.' I thought. I kept my gaze in front of me and sighed. "I'm looking for the stone of Sudre."

She then put her hand on her chin in thought. "Stone of Sudre? That sounds familiar. Is the stone green with half of a symbol on it?" I then stopped walking again and turned to her shocked. "You know of it?" She nodded happily. "Yes, I do! I know where it is too!" I then grabbed her out of the air by her neck and pulled her closer while shaking her. "What?! Where is it?! Tell me!!"

After a moment of her trying to speak through my grip, I rolled my eyes and let her go. She gasped and her smile returned as quickly as it left. "It's on top of a mountain. Let's see, the directions to it are that you keep going straight until you see a tree, then you turn left and keep going until you see a bush, then turn right, and when you see a stick you go right again." I looked around seeing all of those things everywhere, and turned to walk away from her annoyed. "Stop wasting my time stupid fairy!"

She caught up to me again with a look of guilt and put her hands together. "I know, I'm horrible at giving directions. But I really do know where the stone you're looking for is." I didn't look at her as I responded. "Why the hell should I believe you? I have no proof that everything you say isn't a lie." She flew in front of me again, making me stop walking, and gave me a serious look. "I am prepared to give you the highest promise that anyone can give to assure you that I am a fairy of my word."

I raised an eyebrow. "And what kind of promise is that?" She held her serious look as she slowly raised her fist with her pinky standing up. I wish that she could've seen the unimpressed look on my face as she did that. "...Are you serious?" She smiled again proudly. "A pinkie promise is no joke." I wanted to kill her there and then. "What does it matter if you're telling the truth? You suck at directions so just get away from me already!"

Her face then lit up like she got an idea and she became even more excited than before. "I know! How about I take you there?! My village is on the way, so we could stop there to get some supplies and it would be no problem at all! We could be adventure buddies!! I always wanted to go on an adventure!!" I felt the urge to gag, and I yelled back. "Hell no!! There's no way that I'm going to endure spending every minute of my mission with your bubbly ass!!"

She continued to smile and shrugged. "Oh come on! It'll be fun! No one knows this forest better than me! Don't you want to get there fast?" I almost choked on my own words as I forced myself to answer. "...F-Fine!! But if I find out that you're tricking me, I will take off your head with my sword!" She flipped in the air with excitement like my threat didn't bother her at all. "Yay! I can't wait to become best friends!" I then looked up with horror. "Nooooooo!"
