Chapter 14 - Time Will Tell

Zhao Xier's house was some distance away from the North City Middle School. It would take half an hour to walk there. The school would usually start at 8:30 in the morning. Yang Guiying woke Zhao Xier at around 7:00 a.m. "Do you remember what I told you last night? When you see Xiao Mohan, remember to apologize to him. Also, if he's in trouble at school, help him if you can. We're neighbors."

Since yesterday, Yang Guiying had asked Zhao Xier to look after Xiao Mohan.

North City Middle School was a private school, and most students came from wealthy and influential families. Like Zhao Xier, they had been spoiled by their families and were arrogant. They looked down on students like Xiao Mohan, who studied well. That was also the reason why Xiao Mohan was isolated in school in the original book. In addition, Xiao Mohan's character was unsociable. Even without those factors, he would probably be excluded.

"I know that. Grandma, you've said it so many times. It'll be hard for me not to remember it, right?" As Zhao Xier spoke, she stuffed the meat bun she had stolen from Chen Guang into her mouth. Then, they heard footsteps from outside. Zhao Xier stopped eating and looked up subconsciously, only to see Xiao Mohan's figure.

Xiao Mohan had just been transferred to North City Middle School and had not received his school uniform yet. He was only wearing a white shirt and a pair of black pants. A pair of long pants! On such a hot day, he wrapped himself up tightly, not revealing a single piece of skin.

"Why did that guy leave so early? It's only 7:30 a.m. What's he doing there so early?" Zhao Xier mumbled.

"Do you think everyone goes to school late like you? Xiao Mohan is a good student and got into North City Middle School as the top student in his grade, unlike you. I'll be grateful if you can pass all your subjects." Yang Guiying rolled her eyes. She had a very good impression of Xiao Mohan. She felt that he was good-looking, polite, and had good grades. He was definitely someone else's child. Yang Guiying felt a strong contrast looking at Xiao Mohan and Zhao Xier, who only knew how to eat and fight.

"Grandma, why are you looking at me like that?" Zhao Xier asked curiously.

"I just don't understand. Your grandfather, your mother, your father, and your cousin were all brilliant. How did your genes change?" Yang Guiying shook her head and sighed.

Zhao Xier was silent. She wanted to refute Yang Guiying and say that she was also smart. However, she was speechless when she thought about how she had deliberately suppressed his score below the passing line to maintain his image as an evil supporting male character.

After a long while, Zhao Xier said in a muffled voice, "Well, things may change with time. Just wait and see."

Zhao Xier slowly walked out the door after finishing her breakfast. Xiao Jiashu, who lived next door, also emerged from the house. His petite frame was carrying a school bag roughly half the size of his body. He waved at Ye Zhen. "Mom, I am leaving. Don't worry. I will wait for the bus. Bye."

Like Xiao Mohan, Xiao Jiashu also transferred to the North City Kindergarten, but it was in a different area than their school. Fortunately, there was a school bus to pick him up every day, which saved him a lot of trouble.

After saying goodbye to Ye Zhen, Xiao Jiashu stretched his short legs and prepared to walk to the bus stop to wait for the school bus. However, as soon as he turned around, he noticed Zhao Xier. Xiao Jiashu was terrified despite knowing that the chocolate in his pocket had been given to him by Zhao Xier. "Good Morning, Brother Xier," he said carefully, tightening his grip on his bag's straps.

"You don't hold grudges." Zhao Xier raised her eyebrows. She did not expect Xiao Jiashu to greet her. There was no one around at that time, so Zhao Xier did not have any reservations. She stretched out her hand and rubbed Xiao Jiashu's hair. She had wanted to do that since yesterday. Xiao Jiashu was a fair kid. His hair felt very good to the touch, soft and thin. After a while, Zhao Xier asked in a low voice, "You're going to school alone?"

Xiao Jiashu was embarrassed, and his little face was as red as an apple. "Yes, Mom has to work, and my brother's school is not on my way."

"I just saw your brother go out. The school starts at 8:30 a.m. Why is he so early?" Zhao Xier asked again.

Xiao Jiashu blinked his eyes. He did not expect Zhao Xier to ask about his brother, but he still answered obediently, "My brother's health is not good, so he walks slowly. Every time he goes to school, he has to leave half an hour early so he won't be late."
