Chapter 3 - Got caught

Seeing the look of disbelief on my face, the man smirked like he just hit the jackpot.

"Did you read those mangas or were you part of those AGC communities, no wait, maybe it was ACG, anyways are you familiar with the term transmigration, reincarnation, returnee, or something like that?" I took up the hands offered and stood up after so long.

I was just about to shake my head again, however, the lesson hit me and I shouted,

"No!" "…" He quickly went forward and covered my mouth and whispered in a low but aggressive voice. "Why are f*cking shouting in Rune language, retard! Are you f*cking not afraid of beasts invading us or a giant swooping over us for information?"

So, the language we are using is Rune, and the threats here are beasts and um, giants.

"What are those?" I asked him a question.

"Oh right! I forgot that you are a new retard here, anyway I will explain all that later, shit, see it for yourself, few are coming." The way he said it all so quickly made me take some time to process what he said, however, before my thoughts could finish, a bird's screech was heard,

A large- no, an extra large brown bird with a sharp and magnificent beak was accelerating constantly at a high speed towards us. Its claws were long and sharp enough for it to be called an apex predator from the sky and for bad news it is probably heading toward us with its hunger instincts.

At the time I was drowning in concern, the man had already taken a not-so-flashy stance leaning backward with his sharp eyes fixed on the bird and his hands on the hilt of the sword.

I looked at him and gulped, if this is a fantasy world then he is planning to cut down those with his blade, right?

However, contrary to my expectations, without withdrawing the sword from the sheath he threw it and whacked the bird brutishly when it was around 50 meters away from us.

And then what, it fell, however, there was another bird hiding behind it!

Ah, Kind of brings back the memories of when I went around hitting people with a gory hammer, well, I never threw it, if I get a chance in this life I will try that out.

"Huh?!" As soon as the bird got hit with the sheathed sword, its wings flickered and multiplied in three pairs for a second there, no it wasn't an illusion and the man's words further confirmed it.

"They are falcon-based beasts common in this area of open grounds, they are natural predators here, they usually go around in flocks." Said the man while running away, "Huh?!" I exclaimed and ran after him leaving the birds alone.

We ran and ran for a while, however, it was futile and we could still see them on these plains, if we could see them then it would be no problem for a falcon to do the same, and that made me wonder why we are running away.

We ran at least 700 meters away from our initial point and an area covered with green leaves in the middle of a grassland came into our view.

The man jumped on it and so did I, and we both sunk it as the man mouthed, "You idiot! can't you wait for me!"

We landed as soon as we started falling and I am on top of him unhurt and so is he with his tough body hardened beyond comparison.

He suppressed his pain-filled voice while I openly moaned in pain earning a blank stare from him that asked if I was the only one in pain.

"Get up." He said in a voice that hid traces of anger to which I complied.

A silence reined the ditch as we could only hear the sounds of beasts screeching.

I attempted to start a conversation with the man sitting in a meditative posture with a vein popping from his head.

"We haven't exchanged our names yet, mister? I am Lucius, may I know yours?"

He didn't even look at me and said,

"I am Klein in this world. You spoke quite formally, you must have been from a wealthy family in your last life."

To which I answered, "Yeah, kind of, my father and grandfather had numerous hospitals and medical institutions and research centers throughout the world."

"Hospitals, hmmm, I don't know much about that but hospitals charge quite a sum, your family must be filthy rich, I won't probe further."

After mentioning hospitals his mood seemed to have soured a bit, does he have some kind of bill problems with hospitals in this life or the previous one?

And so silence reined the ditch trap again.

"Umm, why are we here? How did you know that there was a hole here?" I asked for further information.

"Of course, it is because I was the one who dug it."

"Oh, you must have a lot of free time?" I said sarcastically after getting fed up because of his non-cooperative tone.

He slightly opened one eye to look at me. "This is a trap for beasts either small or large. If they fall down or just have one of their limbs stuck then it is okay, or else we can just jump into it. " My curiosity overtook. "Won't you be left stuck after this beast covers the mouth of the ditch?"

"And that gives us a perfect opportunity to attack and annoy it."

My mouth almost fell open. People in this world have shamelessness rivaling mine.

"What about that woman and your sword? It looked quite precious, aren't you worried about it?"

"Those beasts with beaks don't eat swords, they pluck out the flesh, neither they are like crows to run away with shiny objects for revenge."

"Please tell me more about this world, as you know, I am new here, Is the voice that I heard of the goddess you mentioned?"

A deep sigh escaped from his mouth as he turned towards me to give me his full attention.

"This is another world different from where you are, or to be more exact a fantasy world of kingdoms and magic."

My eyes widened as one of the assumptions I made came true, however, magic, I never saw that in this world and neither did guess about it. It was a new and exciting topic so it garnered my attention as I leaned forward to listen more carefully.

"I will tell you the rest on the way, she is done with her work, let's go back." Reality disappointed my curiosity as Mr. Klein woke up dusting his clothes.

Hmm, The screeching sounds those bird beasts previously made seemed to have stopped.

"There are beasts, humans, and many other mythical races in this world." Mr. Klein said as he dug in fingers in the loosely packed soil to climb his way up.

"By mythical races I mean elves, vampires, dwarves, beastmen, and the list goes on." He climbed halfway into a 20-meter deep ditch.

"People here can surpass their physical and mental capabilities with a mysterious form of energy called mana, something that brings the difference of contrast between the two worlds."

He already climbed out and reached his hand towards me who followed behind him and was just behind him.

"This is an ideal world in a sense, unlike our previous one where we had to waste our childhood only to dog fight in adulthood just for little and tiny happiness we had. In this world, hard work, knowledge, and talent mean everything, in a sense it seems similar to the last world, however, soon you will realize the difference."

I looked up to the man whose hand I took to climb out, he was smiling genuinely for the first time ever since we met, making me wonder what the future holds for me and what did he find in this world to be so happy after thinking about it.
