Chapter 4 - Episode 4: Is this Professor for real?

"Dear Students, please head back to your room as classes are about to start." - The voice from the microphone linger throughout the entire school.

"Dylan!" - Lucy from afar rushing toward J when she sees him.

"Good morning, Lucy. Energetic as always, huh?" - J laughs back at her, although her smile brightens the day.

"Anyway, I am going to class now. I'll see you later." - J says goodbye to Lucy and heads to his first classroom.

The moment J steps foot into the room, he realizes that the entire room is fully packed with first-year students. Not even one seat is left empty. He is shocked at first but suddenly knows that this is LMS that he is working at so this is something that should be expected. J immediately set the serious mood so quickly that his aura leaks out and covers the entire classroom. Every student lly feels the pressure coming from him. Everyone is now in dead silence. J looks around for several seconds and starts the introduction right after.

"Ahem...Good morning, students of LMS. My name is Dylan. I will be in charge of your class this year. With me, you will study the foundation of magic. My specialty is Mana/Energy, Focus, and Redirection. Let me make one thing straight: Any of you who think that this is will an easy class then you better THINK AGAIN!. Foundation is one of the most important things for students before they go to upper classes, so if you cannot understand what you are having then you will fail. You will either need to take another class this year, or you will take my class again next year. Got it?" - J set the standards right away. All the students can help but get scared and pressured somehow.

"Jesus, is he for real? Fail us? Right at the first class? Should we leave?" - Some of them start discussing between each other and suspicions grow as they spend more time with J.

"Oh, and by the way, I have permission to make this class a 2-year combination class. What does that mean? That means all of you will study together with the 2nd-year upperclassmen. They will be here soon, so get yourself ready before I start the first lecture." - Surprises keep on hitting everyone every time J says something out loud.

A moment later, the 2nd-year students do appear. They look just as surprised as the 1st-year. They quickly get themselves seated in a designated area for the 2nd year, and now J's lecture begins.

"Ok, so our first lecture here is this: What do you understand about your Mana or Energy?" - J asks a question.

"Professor, Mana is what fuses our power. Without it we will not be able to work well with our magic." - A student speaks up.

"Good, but that is not enough. Mana, in a sense, is similar to your life. When you lose a life, you are dead. When you lose your Mana, your magic is dead. Depending on how connected you are with your own Mana, your life will be strongly impacted by it. This is the basics of Mana. Every single one of us knows it. Here comes another question: how do you use your Mana effectively?" - J keeps on asking.

"Professor, that will be on the Mana user." - Another female student speaks her mind.

"Hmm...What is your name, young lady?" - J looks at her.

"It's Margaret. I am a 2nd-year student currently. I am excelled at magic usage, and my element is..." - Magaret proudly introduces herself. She is one of the top students during her year at LMS. Hardly anyone can go against her when it comes to knowledge about Magic. She is one of the potential students with the appearance of a young, curly yellow hair 15-year-old girl. She is someone who will lead the future generation, but her proud attitude is something that not everyone can get used to.

"I only ask for your name, now sit dow...Miss Margaret." - J glares back at her.

Embarrassed and rejected, Margaret cannot help but feels hatred toward J. No professors dare to mess with her before since she is from one of the big Families in the city.

"Just like Margaret said, it depends on you. However, that is not 100% the case. That is my first lecture to you - Train your Focus point!" - J explains.

"Focus point? Is that something we have naturally?" - Everyone looks confused.

"Mana is one thing, and Focus is another thing. People try to look for Mana so much that they tend to forget that Focus will also help them break through even more. I will give you an example: We all know what Elemental Arrow is. That is the basic casting spell any of you can perform, and depending on what element you have that the Arrow will gain similar power. With a high Focus point, you will understand that casting one Arrow is just child play. A high Focus point will let you perform quicker attacks in terms of speed AND casting time." - J goes on and on.

"Wow, seriously??? You can lower casting time just with a high Focus point? I have never heard of this before?" - Several students show their curiosity.

"Professor Dylan. I believe that is impossible." - Once again, Margaret raises her hand from her seat.

"And why is that?" - J asks her.

"The current knowledge of Loran does not say and mention anything about Focus point. Even if there is a Focus for us to practice, the impact will be so small that it will not bring any effects to our power. You talked about casting speed, but I do not personally believe that is the case as our top professor right now can cast an Arrow in 3 seconds, and that is the fastest one to be recorded so far." - Margaret smirks back at J. She wants to pay back what he did to her earlier.

"Hmm...Then how fast is your Arrow right now, Miss Margaret?" - J stays focused on the topic.

"5 seconds!" - Margaret confidently answers.

"Can you demonstrate in front of everyone here?" - J smiles at her.

As proud as she is, Margaret accepts the challenge. She walks toward J and starts chanting her Arrow. A fire and ice Arrow appears in front of every, indicating that she is a Dual Elemental wielder. All the students are impressed by the appearance of her Arrow. The Arrow flies toward a dummy and split it in half. Everything happens in exactly 5 seconds, just as she said earlier.

"Now please excuse me, Professor." - Margaret walks back to her seat, knowing this is her complete victory.

"..."

"Slow..." - J complains.

"What? What do you mean slow?" - Everyone, together with Margaret, cannot believe what J just said.

"What kind of enemy waits 5 seconds for you to cast a spell? Do you think that they will let you stay in one place that makes the attack? Did any of you have an actual battle before?" - J changes his tone to an angry and serious tone towards the students.

"Well...that is...." - Margaret mumbles.

"Everyone, pay close attention and please - do not blink!" - J emphasizes.

An Arrow appears using his Mana, flying towards the dummy again. This time, the Arrow is so fast that it literally pierces through the dummy and shreds it into pieces right in front of everyone. Everything happens in less than a second!

"WHAT? WHAT JUST HAPPENED? How did that Arrow appear?" - Both the 1st and 2nd-year are left speechless at J's technique.

"When you cast a spell, do not just focus solely on the mana. Instead, you need to use your Focus point to aid in your spell. What you just saw is a combination of two main things: The Mana required to create the spell, and the Focus point needed to faster it. It is not like the knowledge is wrong, but there are tons of knowledge out there that no one bothers to update it. Now did you see it clearly, Miss Margaret?" - J looks at Margaret again.

"Yes...Professor Dylan" - She embarrasses herself once again.

"Not only do you challenge my ideas, but you tried to prove that my lecture is wrong. For that reason, you will be deducted 10 points for your upcoming assignment. In a battle, if you do not kill them, they WILL kill you. 5 seconds is more than enough for that to happen. Remember it!" - J glares at her one more time and lets her go back to her seat.

"Ahem.. Right now I want everyone to get familiar with your Focus point first before we move to another lecture for the next class. That is your assignment until next week. Once everyone is ready then I will give you the next lecture. Class Dismissed!" - J sets his tone straight and ends his first class.

....

The news of J making a fast spell starts spreading through the entire school. Making him the hottest topic for a new professor.

"Ugh, maybe that was not a good idea. I let my emotions run through me when I tried to prove my point toward a mere student...Dad, why in the world did you give me this mission?" - J complains and curses Devin once again.
