The shadows charge at J without hesitation. All three quickly surround J and cover him in a thick black fog.
"Why is it that I am the target? There are things we must do instead of doing something like this!" - J pretends to negotiate with them.
"Change in plan. We do not need you anymore. You did a great job covering the train incidence up until now, but letting you live longer will be a great threat to our group and the Families. Therefore, please do not resist and die quickly!" - One of the shadows changes in from the fog with a poisoned spear in his hand.
"Ugh!" - The spear pierces through J's body so fast that he can only let out a quick shout and lay down.
"Boss! We got the target. Our job here is done." - The shadows contact their boss through a mana channel.
"Good job. Be sure to confirm the corpse one more time before you three head back. Leave the body somewhere far from the city. We just need to bring his head back.' - A mysterious voice speaks out from the channel.
"We will, Boss. #241, you go ahead to check the corpse." - It seems that the shadows communicate with each other through specific numbers. They are their code names, and just like J, they are also spies that work in the dark for other organizations just like Devin.
#241, with a bow in her hands, comes toward J. She looks around the entire body for a few seconds then starts charging her bow. She is aiming directly at J's head.
"My god...And this is why you need some more training as spies." - J slowly stands back up with the spear still stuck on his body. The shadows cannot believe in their eyes as no one could escape the poison spear before.
"How can you live with that spear in you?" - The shadows look surprised and lurk in the black fog one more time.
"The idea is good, but the performance is not up to the expectation. I want to see if this poison is strong enough, but it is nowhere near that "strong enough" definition." - J sighs and flicks his finger. A huge energy ball suddenly appears and blasts through the entire black fog. It is immensely strong that cut through every single thing on its way while cleansing J's body and removing the spear away from him. All three shadows are caught in the blast and their bodies are cut into half completely. Two out of the three die instantly, leaving only one left who is trying to cast a spell and run away.
"Oh? Where are you trying to go, Mister?" - J lets out a grin and locks the shadow into an energy cage.
"You...You are not Dylan. Our information is never wrong. The actual Dylan is nowhere near this strong. Who are you?" - The shadow yells back at J.
J says nothing after that. He silently casts a spell that stabs through the shadow's body. The spell looks weak at the first glance, but when it comes into the body it suddenly penetrates through every organ and pierces through the skin. No one can even recognize the shadow right now as there are holes everywhere from head to toes.
"The Re...Redirection..." - The last shadow lets out his final breath before he turns into a pond of blood right in front of J.
....
"Why did you contact back?" - A mysterious voice appears once again.
"Mokir..." - J speaks through the channel.
"!!!" - No response whatsoever.
"If you want to kill me. Bring out better assassins, or bring yourself here. I am going nowhere, moron. Tell the Families this: since they want to kill me that much, why don't they come and do it directly? If not, I WILL come to them!" - J speaks through the channel knowing well that Mokir is on the other side. He knows that he must use Dylan's identity to threaten him to get further information.
"Interesting. To think our information has some errors about you, Dylan. We will meet again very soon..." - Mokir hurriedly ends the channel.
J cleans up the area with his power and returns to his place. Once he gets back, he reopens the channel with Devin one more time.
"J! What happened?" - Devin asks.
"Dad, the subjects from the letter were the Shadows from Mokir. It seems that they have someone watching Loran before Dylan came. They just want to get rid of him as soon as possible." - J explains the situation to Devin.
"Mokir The Flame? Why does someone like that guy have to do with this?" - Devin questions himself.
"I don't know for sure, but he said that he would meet me soon. So I guess he will visit us at Loran in the future. It seems like the Flame Family is the first group to show themselves to us." - J responds.
"Hmm... I knew that the Families are involved in this mission, but to think they act this fast during this time. Leave them to me right now, and take some rest. Be careful around the school as that guy can have some spies on you, J." - Devin said in a worried tone.
"By your order! And please do not worry too much as I want to welcome them here if they decide to face me head-on." - Devin notices J's eyes turn into a deep red color. He immediately knows that J is now asking for blood and more kills. He cannot help but try to calm J down.
"Please take some rest as well, Dad. I will let you know if there are updates along the way." - J says goodbye to Devin and ends the channel.
During the entire night, he keeps thinking about the relationship between Dylan, Mokir, the Families as well as his parents.
....
"Chirp, Chirp" - Morning has come. A new day begins for J. J dresses himself up and heads to school as usual. However, as he walks through the hallway full of staff members and students he cannot help but hear some talking behind his back.
"That's him! Professor Dylan. Shall we go and talk to him?"; "Was that the one that cast a crazy fast spell?" - Everyone still talked about the day when he show how he "casually" cast a spell in front of the students. Rumors spread like wildfire and he is still on top of the rumor chart thanks to that ability of his.
"Dylan!!!" - A unique voice that J cannot mistake with anyone else. Lucy's voice can be heard from far far away. Her cheerful attitude still annoys him one way or another.
"What is it, Lucy? I am going to my office for work." - J asks while running away from Lucy.
"Don't treat me like a stranger! I have something I want to ask you. Can I come to your office right now hehe?" - Somehow Lucy lets out a high smirk on her face, and that worries J a lot but he still lets her come into his office.
"Ok, what is it Madam?" - J asks.
"THE QUICK SPELL! Please tell me how you performed it? How much mana did you use? Are there any layers behind it? Did you have a mana flow back while casting that spell?" - Questions keep on flowing through her mouth nonstop. J has to block her mouth from asking a further question with his mana.
"Ok listen here, young lady. Don't you think this is a little bit too much? You didn't even let me have time to answer your questions. Anyway, that is something I mastered when I was young. That is not something you can achieve in a day or two. So if you want to learn it, become my student and take my class then." - J glares back at Lucy and pays back with a smirk.
"You...Why the hell do you think I want to learn that? I am just curious, and that's all to it!" - Lucy embarrasses herself.
"By the way, the headmaster of LMS wants to speak to you. I am sure you knew it already, but you did something that not even a top 1 student or professor can easily do at this school. They just want to know how you did that as well, so be careful." - Lucy reminds J.
J tells her not to worry too much as he knows how to deal with it. After finishing the paperwork in the office, he goes straight to the headmaster's room as scheduled. Just standing in front of the door gives him a chill feeling. He expects that the headmaster will be on an equal level with Devin or even more. J uses his power to calm himself down and open the door.
"Finally, you have come. Professor Dylan. Please take a seat. Let me introduce myself again: My name is Lerin. I am the current headmaster of LMS. We met once before during your first day at school." - Lerin welcomes J, but he immediately feels the power coming out from her. He understands that the title of "Headmaster" is not really for show from someone like her. Lerin appears to be a traditional young lady with long black hair and her famous golden eyes. No one can get away from her eyes once they look into them.
"Thank you for having me here, headmaster Lerin. What do you need me for?" - J pretends to know nothing.
"Haha, oh come on Professor Dylan. You must have known by now. No need to stay humble after that. You were the hottest topic here yesterday." - Lerin wants J to confirm the rumor himself.
"Then I will be honest with you: Are you inviting me here to know more about how I did my spell?" - J asks Lerin back while looking straight into her eyes.
"Affirmative! Professor Dylan. We had a hard time creating a 3-second spell, and here you are: making a less-than-one-second spell like it is nothing. Your talent will greatly improve LMS, so..." - Lerin laughs at J and continues the conversation.
"Sorry for the interruption, but I have no plan on passing my techniques to anyone." - Knowing this before, J ends the conversation with a straight tone in his voice. The atmosphere suddenly becomes intense between him and Lerin.
"Now, now. Sharing is caring. We have a tradition to improve both students and professors here. So if that is something you can do, why not do it right now?" - Lerin's eyes start glowing.
"This is Diversity we are talking about here, headmaster Lerin. If every one of us does the same thing then students won't be all to learn new stuff from each professor. Therefore, I would like to keep my skills to me for the time being. Of course, I can give you some hints along the way if you want to master it. However, I want to make a deal with you." - J looks at those glowing golden eyes of Lerin.
"And what is it, Professor Dylan?" - Lerin asks.
"These days I am researching about the Families and the Royal Palace. They have a deep history with the country, and I happen to be interesting in learning more about history. Do you mind if I can go to the LMS's library?" - J starts his offer.
"Why not? The library opens 24/7 for everyone. You are free to come in whenever you want to." - Lerin smiles back at J.
"It seems I did not mention it clearly, headmaster. I want to get access to the LMS's Library of Time." - J clarifies.
The smile on Lerin earlier disappears. Her face now is emotionless as she realizes that the person in front of her is not some pushover. She starts to doubt J.
"Why do you want to go to that place?" - Lerin seriously asks J.
"The conflict between Families. That is the topic of my research. Basically, I am looking for a way for people from many areas to come under LMS to study. Don't you think that is a great idea?" - With his experience as a spy, J knows that his target catches the bait. Thus, all he needs to do now is to lie until he gets what he wants.
"... I am sorry, but that place is not open for everyone. Only the one that we fully confirm can set their foot into that library," - Lerin talks back.
"And weren't you just confirming my ability all this time?" - J counters.
Knowing that this conversation is J's win, Lerin cannot help but agree to his offer as J does not omit any ill feelings towards the school, but Lerin also asks for the offer of J's ability as well as his promise not to bring anything from the Library of Time to the outside. Everything in that place will forever stay there. J accepts right away as that is not what he intends to do in the first place anyway.
Both say goodbye to each other, and Lerin takes J out to the door. Right after the door shut close, J finally has some time to breathe out.
"What crazy amount of mana and focus she has. I need to be careful of the way as she might interfere with the mission in the future. On top of that, her Blessing is ridiculous as well! I must let Dad knows about her strength before deciding whether she can be a trustful ally or not." - J heads back to his room.
...
"How was the guy, young miss?" - An old man asks Lerin. It seems to be her personal butler.
"The fact that he is able to face The Blessing of The Eye directly means that he is fully aware of my power. We need to pay special attention to him. If things go south then we need to deal with him as soon as possible. He asked me about the Families as he wanted to know more about them through the Library of Time." - Lerin answers.
"Haha, what an interesting young man. He seems to be around your age also, young miss. How about..." - The old man throws hints at Lerin.
"Oh come on, we are not in that kind of relationship. We might become enemies in the future. But for now, I will investigate him more. Professor Dylan, I hope that our paths do not turn out to be the worst outcome possible." - Lerin looks at J through her window thinking about her future plans.
