Chapter 17 - Memories

"Hey, it's you! What are you doing back? Did you change your mind about the camp?" Kam greeted Connor as he saw him heading his way. He was slightly out of breath as he ran most of it. He wasn't about to risk meeting some Wolves or a Boar, so the moment he heard a sound Connor started running, and he made it safe and sound.

"No! I just wanted to hunt something and the creatures around here are not as strong" Connor explained.

"Makes sense, but you might be a bit late, I've seen a wolf pack heading to the beach. They didn't see me and I didn't bother" Kam said.

Connor sighed. Now he wasn't going anywhere near the beach. Seeing Connor's disappointment, Kan spoke. "With the strong ones arriving the weak ones escaped with their tails between their legs. I saw a few injured ones wimper their way to the east. They're probably licking their wounds somewhere, you should go take a look, but don't look down on them too much, a cornered animal is the most dangerous one!" Kam's words brightened Connor's face. He quickly thanked him and headed east, walking on the path that Kam previously said led to Harbor Town. He walked for a bit before noticing a few blood drops on the ground, leading off the path into the woods.

Carefully Connor followed the tracks, until he found 2 skinny Wolves huddled together. As Connor noticed them they also noticed him, standing up and growling at him.

"You think I'm afraid of you?" Connor smiled, holding his Sword tightly before he started walking towards them. The fight was short, but even with their injuries the two Wolves put up a good fight. Connor felt the same addicting feeling again and grabbed the Hunting Knife from his Crystal. He couldn't use his sword to gut these two so a Hunting Knife was perfect. Whoever that man was Connor thanked him in his heart again. From the worker clothes Connor knew that the man was a worker, and he might have taken all of his savings.. But he needed to make some progress.

The two Wolves were quickly gutted. Although they did not provide much meat, Connor took their pelts, teeth, claws and a few other things. He knew how much each will be sold and what is each used for. "This knowledge will be my lifeline!" He muttered.

The forest he was in seemed empty with the few rodents here and there. "If only I had a bow" Connor sighed. A bow would have made everything easier, from hunting the wolves to even hunting some rabbits and the like. Although his bowmanship was average at best, he still knew how to use a bow from back in the slum days. Plus, the rabbits were not as small, one of them was as big as a dog even, but still as fast so Connor had no hope in catching any.

In the distance, a screech was heard. The familiar screech of the Moth-like creature which Connor learned was an actual creature from the Ruins that kept multiplying to the point where people couldn't keep up with the killing. They were everywhere and a great threat if they attacked in groups.

Connor started walking slowly towards the source, he looked over a tree and saw a man struggling with 3 Moths as they tried their best to sting him.

'Should I help?' Connor wasn't sure, but that decision was made for him when the man noticed some movements, seeing Connor. He did not hesitate to start running towards him. 'This fucker!' Connor thought. He grabbed his sword and started moving.

"EITHER YOU HELP ME OR WE DIE TOGETHER!" The man had a bleeding hole on his side, with a few grazes here and there. Connor quickly climbed onto a tree, and as the man got closer, he jumped onto the furthest Moth.

With the attacks slightly easing, the man kept holding the other two as Connor kept bashing at the creature's head over and over again. The sword seemed to be more effective than the Machete as after around 14 hits its head burst like an egg. The Energy swiftly entering Connor's body.

Connor repeated this strategy. He would climb a tree and jump onto a moth, bashing its head in. He learned this from his experience in the Ruin. All he needed to do was get on top of them one way or another. And just like that, all 3 were dead, with Connor killing each and absorbing all the energy himself.

The man sat underneath a tree, breathing rapidly. "You fucker, why didn't you help me from the start? Give me a Healing Potion or i'll fucking kill you!" The men yelled, holding his sword threateningly.

"Alright, calm down. Here!" Connor reached into his Crystal, grabbing the Large Healing Potion, but as the man was reaching for it, a sword went right through his jugular. Blood squirted everywhere as even Connor's face was dyed red. He took a few steps back, watching as the man choked on his own blood with fearful but angry eyes as he looked at Connor.

"Kill me? You?" Connor spoke. "You pulled me into your own mess and dared to threaten me?"

WACK!

Connor used a front kick to hit the man right in his head. Blood was everywhere as the man slowly laid still, losing the last remnants of his life.

Connor coldly looked at the man, before he moved and started taking everything he had.

Connor's face was cold as memories of his past played. He remembered his poor but sweet parents, the gang that suddenly appeared that day and watching his mother being raped while him and his father watched, how they were beheaded, all of that for a stupid reason. He remembered growing up in that hellhole of an orphanage before becoming old enough and hunting down each and every one of those men, even the ones that started doing good, the ones who had families and made them watch, killing them as slowly as he could. Getting blood on his hands at the age of 17.

"No one will stop me!" He muttered.
