"Are you sure about the weapon you chose?" Suddenly Captain Verin was beside him. Since when had this person been around him? Besides, I couldn't feel his presence nor hear his footsteps.
"Yes, I have confidence in this weapon." Luke slowly lifted the sword from the wooden shelf where it was on display.
"Okay, come with me."
Captain Verin started walking in front of Luke and this time they headed towards the white door. Luke just kept quiet and walked behind him while holding the sword that still emitted a terrifying aura. Verin opened the door and saw a white 4x4 room and nothing in the room.
"Now, sit in the middle of the room while putting the sword you are holding in front of you."
Luke followed his captain's orders and started walking towards the center of the white room. Slowly he sat down and placed the sword in front of him.
"Alright, close your eyes and feel the sword calling out to you."
Luke started to close his eyes and tried to feel the call from the sword.
After he finished remembering the events of a few hours ago Luke just looked confused, maybe because he was remembering what happened a few hours ago or maybe because of the directions this morning?
"Use this," Captain Verin gave Luke a bracelet that was black and had three indicator lights. "The purpose of this bracelet is to protect your soul from the sword."
"Protecting the soul?"
"That's right, when you make a pact with the demons they will ask for something commensurate with the power they give. Everyone is different in giving something to the demons they contract. But, you, Ainswald. You sold your soul to that sword. Every second you use its power, every second that you will lose your soul slowly. So, use the bracelet so that all team members know your condition. Don't let the indicator light turn red. It will only be the end of you."
What would happen if he lost all his soul? Will he die? Or maybe he will turn into an empty shell? Luke didn't have anything in this world that deserved a fair exchange rate. Souls, why do demons always ask for human souls? What do they want to do with the soul they took? Is it possible that if he loses his soul to Abaddon, maybe Abaddon will become his successor. Same body but different soul. Luke was like a ticking time bomb that could explode at any moment but, if he didn't do the reckless act of selling his soul he wouldn't be able to fight any of Arcus' Nobilis and he wouldn't be able to get out of the wall and look for his little sister. Indeed, this bet is worth the risk. If he doesn't take this opportunity he will just be an ordinary soldier whose only job is to patrol the city, guard the walls and even become a guard for important people and become a sycophant so that he can get a comfortable life like most of the people who join. But, in that case he ignored the fact that Rena was still alive out there. The horror he saw five years ago he could not ignore. He could neither forget nor pretend to forget it. Indeed, the people around him asked him to let go of the incident, but, Luke always believed that Rena was out there and still alive.
"Okay, when you're done in this room don't forget to close the door." Captain Verin came out of the white room and left Luke with his sword which was the incarnation of a demon named Abaddon.
"Relax man, I will not directly take your soul. Since you are my new contractor, I will give you some relief. Before you can master my power, I will only take a little bit of your soul." The sword spoke again.
"Why are you suddenly acting like that?"
"Let's just say, I'm too tired of not seeing your world and I'm quite curious how far you can survive in this terrible world."
"Somehow I just feel the words you say in your world and currently seem inconsistent."
"I'm just giving you a break. But remember that one day your soul will be mine."
"Don't worry, I'll try not to drain my soul." Luke stood up from his seat while hanging his sword between his waist.
This time, there was no purplish black aura and no sense of dread coming from this sword. It was probably because this sword had been on the wooden shelf for a long time and needed a contractor. Luke came out of the white room and once again saw Captain Verin standing in front of the wardrobe covered by the black cloth. What is that person looking at? Why is he so focused? Is there something so important behind the cloth? The questions he couldn't say to the man because Luke was sure he wouldn't answer them. In fact, the questions that were in his head might already be known by the man. After all, how can one human being know the contents of another human mind? This person is really mysterious. His flat and cold manner of speech, his expressionless face and unpredictable thoughts and behavior. He better not think too much about it because there are more important things than thinking about what lies beneath the cloth. Of course how to control a great power that if he didn't control it properly would only cost him his soul.
"Now, take a break and go to the 11th floor because the 10-15th floor is a dormitory."
"All right, Captain. Thank you for accompanying me earlier."
Captain Verin just nodded and Luke walked out of the armory and once again he glanced behind him and once again he saw the man standing there looking back at the cloth. The world today is not a place suitable for humans to live in. This world has been filled with fog that whoever inhales the fog it is not until a few minutes they will turn into creatures that prey on humans and creatures called vampires also lurk from behind the fog and they even mingle among humans. It was as if living in this world was like a knife that was pointed right below the neck. This is not a new world, it's just a world filled with despair and filled with false promises of nobles who live comfortably in district 1 which is full of elite guards around every corner and they are always on guard 24 hours. The higher the number of a district, the more visible the economic disparity in this city. Maybe, not only in this city alone but in other cities scattered in this world.
People who have a low economy are forced to join the royal soldiers and try to climb to a higher level by doing everything, no matter how humiliating, so that they and their respective families can get a decent life. But, what is a decent life in this world like? Can moving from one district to a district with a smaller number make one's life in this world a decent one? That doesn't change the fact that the walls can be penetrated by vampires like they did five years ago. Those in the lesser-numbered districts were simply procrastinating their time. If, things like this continue, there will be a time when the humans in this world will become livestock for the vampires.
However, I reject all of that. Rejecting the life of luxury, refusing to be a soldier who only acts stupid when patrolling or guarding walls.
