Chereads / Zero Soul / Chapter 11 - Nostalgic Feeling

Chapter 11 - Nostalgic Feeling

"Hey, why are you staring like that? Don't you want to come in?" Without realizing it, Luke was already in front of the elevator and it turned out that the person in the elevator was Charles.

"Oh sorry." Luke got into the elevator and Charles pressed the 11th floor button.

Neither of them wanted to start a conversation and the atmosphere began to feel awkward. Could it be that Charles hated Luke for this morning? No, it couldn't be that just because of that he was emitting an air of hostility instead. After all, he had done nothing wrong either to Charles or to Charlotte.

"Hey." The silence in the elevator was broken by the voice of the man standing in front of the elevator buttons. "Sorry for what I said this morning." Charles suddenly apologized to Luke and Luke looked at Charles with a questioning look.

"No need to apologize, it's only natural to me."

"No I have to apologize, not because my sister told me to."

"Never mind it too much." Of course Luke knew how an overprotective brother felt about his sister. Because he used to be like that too.

"Indeed, I've never felt what it's like to be a little brother but, I understand how it feels."

"Do you have a sister too?"

"Before."

"Before?"

"True, I once had a younger sister who could be said to be very similar in nature to you, but since the incident five years ago I lost her."

"Sorry." Charles said so regretfully.

"Why are you even apologizing? After all, it's not your fault." Luke didn't know why this man was apologizing and looked so sorry.

"You're right, somehow I apologize instead, hahaha..."

Shortly after that the lift stopped and the lift number indicated the 11th floor.

"Let me show you where your room is." Luke and Charles simultaneously got out of the elevator and walked towards the room where Luke would stay until he died or until he was transferred from this city.

"From today onwards this will be your room."

"Thanks for showing me my room."

"By the way my room is over there and my sister's is right next to yours. So don't try anything or I'll kill you."

"A-alright." Once again this person shamelessly displayed his acute siscon nature.

"Aren't you coming with us later?"

"Thanks for the invitation but, I'm really tired after going through that test."

"Is that so, then have a good rest."

"Thank you for showing me my room."

"No problem, and remember not to mess with my sister or try to sneak into her room."

"There's no way I would do that."

Even though he was right next to a girl's room Luke wouldn't try anything or do anything weird in fact, this person was the most likely to do that. After that Charles left Luke right in front of his bedroom door. Luke opened the door to his room and saw a room that only contained a bed and an empty table. Luke puts his bag on the table along with his sword in which a demon dwells named Abaddon. Luke lay down on the mattress which even felt ashes as if this room hadn't been cleaned in a long time but, never mind he was tired for today. From searching the 10th squad room and knowing the purpose of this team and even going through the trials that seemed like years to him. Luke put his hand on his forehead and started to close his eyes.

"Hey, this isn't the time for you to sleep." A faint but clear voice came from the table where the source of the sound was the sword he had just placed there.

"What do you want? I'm trying to sleep, don't make noise."

"You know partner, this isn't your time to sleep."

"Hey, since when did we become partners?"

"Of course since you made a contract with me."

"Never mind, I'll cherish your ramblings when I wake up later."

"You, knowing the guy you were with just now I feel like he's hiding something."

"Charles you say?"

"That's right, your team members contain only suspicious people, especially those soulless humans."

"Captain Verin? Why do you even call it soulless? Indeed, he is cold with no expression on his face and his skin is a little paler than most people and the way he reads people's thoughts is quite surprising as well."

"Don't trust anyone on that squad."

"Compared to them, I don't trust you more, after all, every human has their own secrets and I don't know if you demons have something like that too. But, things like that make humans interesting creatures."

"You guys are not interesting creatures, but rather boring."

"Yeah, whatever you want to say, don't make any more noise."

Luke closed his eyes again and ignored all the words that came from the sword. After all, it felt very strange to see this kind of situation where someone was talking to a sword. Are the other members of the human race's army corps also speaking to their weapons? It's better not to think too much about things like that.

"Hmm? Where is this?" Luke woke up in a place surrounded by all kinds of flowers and as far as the eye could see there were only blooming flowers and a path. This world looks very different from the world in which he lives. In this world the sky is bright blue and there are white clouds covering it. What's going on here? Is it possible that Abaddon is doing something weird again? Come to think of it anyhow there was no way an arrogant demon like himself made this colorful world. But at the end of this path there is a swing and someone is playing on it. Luke walked towards someone who was playing on the swing. Arriving near the swing he saw a girl sitting there.

"Excuse me…"

There was no response from the girl, not long after that the girl stopped her swing and ran towards the blooming flowers.

"H-hey wait..." Luke chased after the girl and suddenly the flower petals flew up to cover his vision.

"Damn it, where did that kid go..." Several times he searched in the middle of the flower garden but couldn't find the girl. What's going on here? How could the child quickly escape his sight?

"La~la~la" Someone's singing voice came from behind him. Luke quickly looked back and saw that the girl behind him was picking flowers.

Not long after that the little girl came running again carrying various kinds of flowers in her hands and this time she ran towards Luke. The girl gave Luke a dahlia flower and for some reason Luke felt nostalgic when the girl gave the dahlia flower. That's right, when he was a child he often went with his sister to a park not far from the center of district 25. Indeed, that district could be said to be a district that was not good at all, most of the people there were just refugees or addicts and addicts. unemployment. If you say why they live there of course because Luke's father is a doctor and his mother a teacher. Indeed, the pay received by both parents is not as much as people who have the same profession as them, in fact they are more often not paid. However, his father and mother didn't care whether they wanted to be paid or not because those in districts 21 to 25 were as if they were just people left behind by the city government. The nobles living in district 1 and the Kings living in district 0 didn't care about the plight of these people. Even in the last 10 years the King did not show his face to the public anymore. To Luke's parents these people deserved to be saved and helped. Not because they lack but as a feeling that we still have a conscience as humans by helping each other. Even though the world has turned into a bad place, conscience is not something that should be forgotten. If things like that are forgotten, humans are not much different from predatory creatures out there.
