Chapter 221 - Passing into the barrier

I could be absent for more than one day, shaking my head and looking into the girl's eyes, I saw the sadness in them that she was trying to hide.

- There is no need to wait for me Lualia, I don't know how long I will have to spend behind the barrier. You have your own life, so live it. - Turning to her, I saw her look down and nod slightly. - And when I return from the barrier, I will try to find your house again and you will take me out of the city.

The girl wanted to say something, but apparently understood that waiting for who knows how long would only be a waste of her time and capabilities.

Agreeing to my proposal, we again headed to the barrier; along the way we came across city residents who had already heard about what happened to the elder and retreated with faces of fear and in a quiet voice, cursing me in the back.

I had to pretend that I didn't hear their words, as one of the teachers in the castle of the Kray Empire said, that the inhabitants would say pleasantries to their faces and curses in their backs, and I, as a prince, needed to be able to ignore such attacks.

Some men tried to call out to me or the girl, but when I turned around they were pulled away by other witnesses to the men's reckless behavior.

Turning my gaze to Lualaya, I saw how her gaze wandered over the faces of the residents she met, who twisted at the sight of me.

- Don't be angry with them, they are not always like this, they are afraid, what you did to the elder was just the beginning and now everyone is waiting for you to prove yourself. - The girl turned to me in a quiet voice when we went out onto the street leading to the barrier.

Looking back, I saw how some residents of the city were following us, I was not interested in what they were up to, they did not dare to go around the corner and watched what I would do. Stopping and not reaching a few steps to the place where Lualia remained waiting yesterday.

- Here we will part; there is no need for you to travel the remaining distances; you are already at the limit of your strength. - I turned to a girl who could see that it was becoming more and more difficult for her to walk along the road, just like yesterday.

The girl wanted to dispute my words and say that we agreed that she would reach the place where I left yesterday.

I saw it in her face and eyes, but I just shook my head, I was pleased with her wishes, but if it would be harmful to her and would bring nothing but pain, I didn't see why she should do it.

- Look at you, you are trembling all over, your face is becoming whiter, we don't know how the barrier affects you other than visible changes. - Turning to her, I took out a small mirror from the storage and handed it to her, allowing her to see that I was not lying.

The girl was surprised to see how her face became whiter and her hands were trembling violently, returning the mirror to me and agreed with my words.

Having put the mirror away in storage, I looked back at the figures who were looking around the corner in the distance on the street.

- I hope you don't think of doing something stupid with the girl. And if you decide, I will find you and death will be good for you. - Addressing the figures in a loud and cold voice, I only wanted to intimidate them.

The girl looked back, wanting to see who I was addressing, but human vision was worse and she saw only small shadows near the corner.

After checking the wyvern that was lying in its lair and ordering it to go back to the city and watch it, I went to the barrier.

My steps were heard with light sounds as I headed into the barrier and the gate, without looking back I had the hope that Lualia would not stand waiting and look at my back.

Passing by the remains and statues, I felt a barrier that was in front of me; approaching closer to it, I felt strange writings appearing on my body again.

Passing through the barrier and looking back, I saw the same street along which I was walking. Yesterday I did not have the opportunity to look behind the barrier, and continuing on my way, I noticed that there were no sounds of wind or birds.

The buildings looked more richly decorated and the statues that were located next to the houses were more ornately expressed.

Passing by the houses, I saw that the streets were wider and stretched in different directions, strange drawings on which were visible and they were different from those whom I saw depicted on the monuments.

In the drawings, they were dressed in simple clothes and smiled and pulled something in my direction; their wings folded behind their backs looked relaxed, just like the faces of the avels.

The color of their feathers was different; both white and black were noticeable; passing by such drawings, I felt dizzy from receiving new information about the Avel race.

Looking around at the houses and strange carriages, I saw that they were different from those I had seen in the two cities.

Here they were intact and there was a feeling that they were ready to go anywhere at the owner's request.

I caught myself thinking that I was the first representative of the races here after the exodus of the five races, and the fact that everything appeared to my eyes as they had left it was amazing to watch.

I had the feeling that I was small and left alone in a large unfamiliar city, the road along which I walked led me to a large building with large stone walls and a large arch leading inside.

The building had a large tower that stretched into the sky and on the tower there were figures that I had seen earlier in front of the houses.

At first glance, the building below had only two floors and large balconies that faced me. To my regret, the gates were locked and I could not get inside, I could see the windows at my height and I saw inside there were tables and strange devices that were pulled between the tables, they looked like glass bottles stretched up. Whether there was a store where something was sold or what else I didn't know.

Continuing my way through the streets and examining the buildings and unusual carriages that became more and more carried away by my journey through the part of the city that was under the barrier, absorbed in my emotions, I tried to open some buildings with the help of tormentors and magic, but the doors did not give in, as did the windows.

Walking along one of the streets and coming out onto a road that was wider and larger than the ones I came across, I walked towards the building, which was located at a distance from everyone.

From afar, I saw that it had many floors, as well as a wall that did not allow me to see what was below.

The closer I got, the more I saw signs that this was a place where the Avel rulers received residents, or a place where the rulers themselves lived.

There were noticeable balconies that were elongated and allowed several representatives of the Avels, as well as other races, to be on them.

The drawings painted on the surface of the building confirmed my suspicions that I had gone to the place where the rulers of the Avel race lived.

Under the windows next to me I could see a small clearing; going out onto it and looking towards the building, I saw that the field just overlooked one of the balconies.

Next to each balcony there were two strange statues that gave a menacing look to the entire building.

I was interested in what was hidden inside, but no matter how hard I tried to get there, all my attempts were in vain.

the writings that continued to be on my body stopped glowing and turned black as soon as I tried to read them, but I couldn't.

Trying to write down some words and pass them on to Keirin, who might be able to tell whose language was used, I moved on.

Sometimes on my way I came across monuments to the Avels, which were either rulers or warriors dressed in armor, each of them differed both in clothing and in time, some looked older than others.

Crossing the main road and leaving a small park with a tower and making sure that it was higher than the others that I came across and there were many more drawings on it, I mentally confirmed for myself that they carried the history of the Avel race.

The lack of sounds other than my steps gradually began to disturb me, sometimes it seemed to me that I heard footsteps behind me, but looking back it was empty.

Calming myself with the fact that I was alone here, in the distance I could see another park which was fenced with a wall.

On the arch at the entrance there was something written in the Avelian language, but unfortunately I didn't understand, passing through it I found myself in a dark park, thanks to my vision I saw through the tops trees, part of a spire that was hidden behind the trees.

Stopping and thinking about continuing the journey or resting, but something pulled me forward, I did not feel tired.

Continuing my way through the park, I heard some tree branches making sounds, accustomed to the silence, at first I thought that one of the Avel animals was surviving in the parks, but when no one came out, I relaxed.

Walking along the road, I saw how the trees began to thin out at the end, trying not to think about what awaited me and moving at a calm pace, I went to the place where there were the fewest trees near the road.
