Chapter 222 - Sanctuary of the Gods

Stopping and wanting to make sure that it wasn't, I closed and opened my eyes again, but what I saw didn't go away.

The road I was walking on merged into another that led further. It was wider, allowing you to walk without fear of hitting someone.

Next to the road there were monuments in a row, they were larger and more majestic than those that the avels made for their rulers.

Looking further, I saw the buildings that the spirit of the forest was talking about. It looked majestic, on the windows one could see different drawings that described different stories associated with the gods and the chosen ones, next to the sanctuary of the gods there were two statues that held weapons in their hands, blocking the passage to the inside.

Either the spirit of the forest did not know that the monuments were blocking the passage or deliberately remained silent, wanting to see how I would cope.

I could only hope that I would have the opportunity to get inside. Approaching the monuments, I noticed that they were not standing alone, nearby there were several figures who were like different representatives of races, from light elves to gnomes.

Turning my gaze to the large statues and examining them, I began to recognize the gods that they tried to forget about after the exodus of the five races. Looking at them, they were not alike. One god looked more like a tree with several large arms.

Next to him stood another god, he looked like an elf, but he was taller and his eyes were smaller, his hair was braided in a braid, and he held a small spear in his hands. Is it possible that he was the god of the high elves? There was a sense of confidence in the god's gaze and a slight smile on his face.

Walking between the monuments of the gods, I looked for the goddess Ges, I wondered if she was the same as I saw her.

In the distance, closer to the two guards who were blocking the entrance to the sanctuary of the gods, I saw a familiar figure. Looking at her, I noticed differences in front of me: she appeared in a dress, but here she looked like a warrior dressed in light armor and in her hand she held a small shield and in the other hand a short sword studded with large crystals.

There was a noticeable smile on her face that I saw when I turned my gaze to her chosen one, but there was no one next to her.

Frowning and walking again along the monuments, I saw that each god had a chosen one, but the goddess Ges was not.

Was I her first chosen one, or for some reason did they not make a monument to her chosen one?

Shaking my head, I rejected this possibility; disrespect for the chosen god could cause harm to the Avel race, and it is unknown whether the god Lun'Gi helped them.

Returning to the monument to the goddess Ges, I was wondering who conveyed the appearance of the gods to those who created these monuments.

I had doubts that the gods had descended to be seen by those who were not chosen, turning to the two guards who were blocking the passage to the sanctuary of the gods.

They reminded me of the statues that stood in front of the barrier, but unlike them, these statues did not allow you to pass by them.

Examining the figures, expecting to see a clue, but there was none, or I was looking poorly, turning my gaze to the wall of the sanctuary, I saw drawings in which one of the chosen ones walked the same road as me.

The figure also stopped in front of the guards and doing something in front of them, the statues moved apart allowing the figure to go inside.

Puzzled, I returned to the statues and, looking closely at them, I saw only blades that were crossed. I began to have suspicions about exactly how the figure in the drawings walked, sighing and running his hand first along one steel and then over the other.

Having made sure that blood was dripping down the blades of the statues, I took a pill, the statues, as in the drawings, put their blades to the sides and moved away allowing me to pass. I felt my fears rising in the fact that I didn't know what was waiting for me there.

But realizing that I had nowhere to look for a weapon style, I could only hope that the spirit of the forest had not deceived me.

Walking into the dark passage behind me, I heard movements again and the figures of the statues again blocked the passage.

I found myself in complete darkness in a passage without light and the opportunity to go back, clenching my hands into a fist and moving slowly in the darkness, I carefully walked forward.

I had hope in my elven vision that the darkness would begin to dissipate, but to my surprise I saw nothing.

Stopping, closing and opening my eyes, there was no change, raising my hand to my face and trying to see the outline of my hand, but it was not visible.

Touching the wall with my hand and running my fingers along the wall expecting to hear sounds, they were also not heard.

Trying to walk slowly and leaning on the wall, I walked forward, trying to understand what was happening next to me.

Stretching out my arms to the sides and trying to understand if there was another wall nearby, but not finding it and pressing my hand against the wall and continuing to walk along it, I didn't know how long I walked immersed in complete silence.

The longer I walked, the more nervous I began to get, not understanding why my anxiety was caused, sometimes I had the feeling that I could hear my organs, trying to drive away various thoughts that I was trapped and continuing to walk forward.

Freezing, I tried to calm down gradually; the absence of sounds and the ability to see brought me to the brink of losing concentration, and the absence of a wall along which I was walking made everything even worse.

Having made sure that there was no other wall nearby, not nearby, not on the other side, trying to calm down and kneeling down and moving my hands forward, I was afraid that there would be emptiness there too.

To my joy, my hands felt the stones ahead. I was at a loss as to where I was, resting with one hand next to my feet and with the other checking the path ahead and moving around wondering where this path would lead me.

I did not expect that I would find myself in such a situation; if before it seemed to me that I could hear my body, now I could clearly hear my organs.

Feeling how my legs are starting to go numb due to one position, trying not to pay attention to them and continuing to crawl forward.

Thinking about where I was, I did not exclude the possibility that I was in the sanctuary of the gods, but after the exodus of the gods, it became empty and gradually collapsed due to the lack of the powers of the gods, which most likely fueled the buildings. But then it turns out I was trapped?

It was impossible to go back, in the darkness and without seeing or hearing anything, I doubted that I would be able to activate the mechanisms to open the passage.

Continuing to check the path forward with my fingers, I discovered with my hand that it was resting against something, trying to hold back a cry; the time spent here had shaken my thoughts and judgment too much.

It felt like what the hand rested on was cold and most likely made of metal, frowning and resting the other hand on the ground and trying to rise.

When I was ready to tear myself off the floor and felt pain in my legs, they were as if under water and it was holding them down.

Ignoring the pain in my arms from falling to the floor, I tried to straighten my legs and bend them, gradually the discomfort in my legs began to recede, making sure that the discomfort in my legs had gone away, I again rested my hand on the floor and with the other hand moved along the surface, which I hoped was the door.

Rising higher and higher, and clinging to the metal with my hand and feeling how it penetrates my fingers, holding back a cry and grabbing the free side with my other hand, I was back on my feet.

Feeling weak in my legs, I was afraid to let go of the metal that had penetrated my hand. Pressing my head against the metal and feeling its coldness that began to spread across my face, I began to move my free hand along the metal in search of a handle that would be near the door.

Running my hand from bottom to top and not finding it, I began to have fears that this was not a door in front of me, moving my hand above my head and continuing to move along the metal that covered the entire surface.

When I was ready to fall on the stones and anticipating pain in my back, I felt with my hand a piece of metal that was elongated and gave in to my fingers.

Trying to lower this part of the metal down, but nothing changed, trying different possibilities, I decided to press on the metal, which began to penetrate deeper into the wall.

When the rest of the metal disappeared, and running my fingers in search of similar metal but there was nothing, different thoughts flashed through my head that showed how Keirin returns to the city with other girls and continues to wait for my return, first alone and then Cassandra joins her.

And how they go together to the capital of the Avels and then, after talking with Lualia, they also go to the barrier and their sphere does not withstand the magic of the barrier and they die from pain next to the barrier.

I felt my body falling, but my thoughts continued to wander, imagining the most terrible possibilities of what would happen to them if I did not return.
