Chapter 22 - 22. Gathering of Big Names

After an unremitting effort, which was essentially a plea, I managed to convince General Revailler to agree to let a commoner like Luster under my control.

He received our report of the "strange thing" we witnessed and also showed some interest.

This General's actions will be quite similar to the reactions of the Kingdom's politicians, so I can use him as a comparison.

Albert has been missing for some time now, it seems he has his own plans in mind.

That person is truly hard to grasp.

In the meeting table, there was a person, who came with a reason to "support" the Enlightenment, looked at me with suspicious eyes the whole time.

Marquis Ress.

Though he did not say it outright, I could at least feel that the purpose of his coming here was not to aid in a war that was certain to be won.

Despite the reason of supporting the Enlightenment, he led a Legion consisting of two Divisions, about 30,000 men, a insanely large number of reinforcements.

Ress start the conversation first, like he always does.

"I am surprised. Cecile, why are you here? Does Ray know anything about this?"

"He knows, but he does not forbid anything."

"I see. That is quite a strange behaviour from a guy like him. But that is for the better. It is indeed pleasing to see a flower blooming in the midst of war, such as you."

The commander of the Second Division, Major General Alter Narick, sitting across from my chair, raised his voice.

"A noble who goes by the name Albert, asked to protect lady Cecile here after the assassination attempt at the Lumière Sanctuary. I have been wondering why the Scottfields agreed to this…"

Albert entered the room right at that moment, it seemed he must have heard the gossip.

"A noble from Kruztberg Family, second son of Count Farant Kruztberg of the Soree, in the land of Saneris, dear Major General Alter! I guess that background of mine is enough to gain the Major General's trust?"

Alter laughed loudly after hearing such confident words from a young noble, just like himself.

"That is quite nimble of you, may I ask how long have you and Miss Cecile here known eachother?"

I interrupted their conversation, to avoid revealing unnecessary information.

"So, General Revailler, shall we get to the main topic?"

That evening, the Enlightenment received word of a rather large-scale attack on Eratus Citadel, located northeast of the Kingdom's border, only fourteen fers from the village we were on mission to.

Our intelligence network on the way back was attacked by them, and only a few managed to escape.

That was why the information being delayed.

But somehow, the Enlightenment Army was prepared in advance to be ready to fight in the event of a campaign-scale war.

Those present in this enlightening mission are all big names in the general of the Holy Kingdom: Great General Revailler, General Zelphline, General Eis, General Verdict...

A force unequal to its purpose, far exceeded its reason of defending Eratus Citadel.

It seems that only an offensive campaign could use up the same number of troops as this Army Group.

What scheme must the Headquarters have, mobilizing such a gigantic force to wage war?

The true purpose of the campaign is unknown, or it was once believe to be unknown, and the possibility of stopping it is zero.

But if the outcome of this unexpected operation doesn't affect my and Albert's plans, there's no need to panic.
