George was pacing around the reception of st. Patrick's mission hospital so uneasy, he couldn't keep calm his heart was racing and he was sweating like he just ran a marathon. Tyra his 6 year old daughter sat on the couch playing with her doll so innocently not knowing what was going on she glanced at her dad every now and then but her mind was mostly on her doll.
"Daddy look" Tyra exclaimed excited holding up her doll "I made her hair just like mine" George walked towards her smiling as much as he could despite the pain he felt in that moment he sat beside her and pulled her in for a warm hug and gave her a quick kiss on the forehead. "Is she pretty?" Tyra kept looking at George with nothing but joy in her eyes, "yes baby" George finally responded "just like you". "Mr Brown?" The doctor called out not sure if it was really him, George stood up so fast and was already in front of he doctor with just 2 steps he was anxious and the doctor could tell."how is she? how is my wife?" George spoke out out of breath "is she okay?", "Sir calm down, am Dr Martin am afraid I have bad and good news for you" Dr Martin said with so much grief in his voice as his words came out he could see the pain in George's eyes as they could not hold back tears he would slowly turn and look at his daughter who still knew nothing and casually played with her doll.
George knew he had to keep it together for Tyra he had to be strong for both of them. He knelt besides the bed where the corpse of his wife lay her lips were ice dry and cold she had dark circles around her eyes George stroked her hair while he cried. "How...am.....i...going to do this without you?" George said in between sobs while he slowly stroked her face he could not believe she was gone the love of his life was no more.
Tyra stood by the window of the baby nursery with a nurse who was pointing one of the baby's who was inside for her. "That one over there the pretty one that's your little sister" the nurse said comforting Tyra who was so excited she just wanted to go inside. " When can I hold her?" Tyra said so happily "not yet honey" the nurse said smiling and stroking her hair all at once, she has no idea what is happening the nurse thought and sighed. "Daddy" Tyra ran toward George who put up the fakest smile he could possibly have he knelt on one knee and opened his arms to embrace Tyra who was still excited. "Daddy come see the baby she is small and pretty like my dolly" Tyra said while jumping up and down George couldn't help it he couldn't hold back his tears, "daddy why are you crying?" "Nothing baby am just so happy cause of the baby" George smiled as tears kept running down his cheeks, Tyra smiled and hugged him "where is mummy?" Tyra said while looking around hoping she would show up somewhere. "Honey remember that place called heaven the one I told you about the other day?" George broke the awkward silence that filled the atmosphere "mm hmm" Tyra nodded "well mummy went there and she isn't coming anytime soon", "but how will she see and take care of the baby?" Tyra said while looking back at the nurse who had tears filled in her eyes then she looked back at her father who was suddenly crying then he stood up and walked away to the bathroom while Tyra watched him.
This was the first time Tyra saw her father like that, she was still too young to understand things but she was equally smart. She stood by the window watching the baby who was in her crib sound asleep "don't worry baby I'll take care of you till mummy comes back" George stood by the corner watching what was the saddest yet most beautiful moment of his life he felt some kind of relief just watching how much Tyra loved her little sister.
