Chapter 2 - 1 Calamity

"Help!"

"Aaargh!"

"No no n- !"

Boom!

No matter where he looked, Griffin could only see chaos, and death.

It had been a while since the chaos started, and Griffin along with his family managed to get to safety within the plaza of the city.

Him, along with his mother and father were seated in the marble roads with hundreds of people from various places within the city. Athens was a pretty big city after all. The Lord of Athens, Alexander I, was a man known for maintaining his city looking magnificent, the streets, the statues, the houses, and the great palace of Athens were visual examples of his good taste in agriculture.

Although, right at this moment, everything magnificent about Athens seemed to be crumbling down and turning into dust, along with the fire consuming everything in its path. The trees had long been burned to dust, and the beautiful gardens turned to dry land.

"Mom, are we safe now?"

"Yes, son, we are" Griffin's mother with teary eyes yet still smiling tried to console Griffin and give him reassurance.

To Griffin, his mother's smile was enough to make him forget everything about what was going on around him.

"Sir!"

"Yes, soldier, got any reports of the situation at every gate?"

"Indeed sir, and it's no good news. The situation is not normal, this time the number of beasts has doubled since last time.

"Fuck! What type of beasts are they?"

"They're Crescent wolf's, Mummies, and the most dangerous of them all…"

The conversation between the soldier and the General was interrupted by a powerful lighting that had struck the palace of Athens just a mile away from them, and Griffin.

"Everyone, do not panic!"

The soldiers tried to put at ease the crowd, but to no avail.

"Mom?"

Griffin was looking at her mother and her mother stared back at him with a bright smile and the still teary eyes. Even though Sescia had an immeasurable amount of fear going through her, she still smiled.

Adonis was also full of fear but he couldn't show weakness like his wife, he was the man of the house after all.

"We need weapons! We can't defend ourselves just by sitting here doing nothing"

A man from the crow stepped on a rock bench and yelled at the top of his lungs hoping for everyone to listen to him. He was wearing no shirt, though he did wear some canvas pants, and black sandals.

His pants were looking rather brown instead of their usual white color which indicated that he probably worked in the lower class.

"We need to be united. Cowering in fear will not stop those hungry shits coming after our flesh."

The man was indeed a good speaker and right now, most of the people stopped running and listened to him will agreein out loud.

"I agree, give us weapons Legionis!"

"Yes, we will die at this pace!"

"We can't just sit around waiting for our deaths, can we?"

Everyone suddenly looked at the Legatus who was giving orders to the Centuria, and it's Centurion that remained with him to protect the people of Athens.

A Legatus Legionis was the ultimate commander of an entire legion which consisted of Centuria, a unit consisting of ten Contubernium with a Centurion as leader, Contubernium that consisted of 8 men. Cohorts, a unit consisting of six Centuria and finally the Legion, which consisted of ten Cohorts.

The rest of the Legion was fighting at the multiple gates of Athens. Once the Legatus heard the public's opinion, he paused for ten seconds before giving the order to give weapons to everyone.

"Contubernium V will go to the armory and bring all the weapons they can carry, and distribute them between the men who can fight!"

The Contubernium V was sent due to the unit not having any specific designation. It's true that a Centuria unit alone would be able to defend against the beasts and monsters but won't be able to defend the people at the same time. In the end, a beast might break through their lines and head towards the people, and once that happened they were doomed and chaos would arise even higher. Giving them weapons, at least to the ones that can fight will make that chance lower.

72 soldiers remained at their posts while the other 8 went towards the armory located in the training grounds, not far east from the palace.
