Chapter 3 - 2 Courage

About five minutes later, the 8 soldiers from Contubernium V arrived to the plaza with all weapons they could carry. They looked exhausted due to the intense run they had to pull off to and back from the armory. Even if it wasn't too far east, it was still an easy task considering they were carrying heavy weapons when coming back.

As soon as they arrived, the civilians started to gather around and hurriedly grabbed the first weapon they saw. None of them had been trained and so it didn't matter what weapon they grabbed.  Adonis was also one of those gathering, he grabbed a sword since when he was a kid, he always liked to play with wooden swords. It wasn't a fake sword this time and it was obvious due to the sharp blades on both sides of the sword and how heavy it was.

After grabbing a sword, Adonis quickly neared his family. Griffin and Sescia smiled when he arrived. Griffins first question when he arrived was "Dad, where is my sword?"

Adonis was stunned at his son's question.

"No, son, you can't possibly hold a weapon this heavy. Don't worry, I will protect you.

"Dad, please, at least let me have a dagger so I can defend mother."

Griffin and his begging face was toouch for Adonis to handle and so he went back to the pile of weapons and looked through them for a dagger small enough for Griffin to handle. There, under the entire pile was a dagger with a golden handle and a blade seemingly sharp enough to cut through flesh easily.

'This will do'

When he came back with a dagger in his hand, Griffin was happy. He always feared the beasts that roamed the outlands and he still did, but he wanted to protect his family just like his dad. As soon as he was handed the weapon, he stood and even though his mother refused to let him stand up, he still pulled through.

"Son, you don't have to do this. Look, the other kids aren't carrying weapons either, you don't have to"

But, heavens, his mother's please didn't reach Griffin's ears as he started to walk side by side with his father who also seemed reluctant to let him fight.

'Its okay mother, I will protect our family, and I also got dad with me!'

'I will not let Griffin fight this shits, if I can I will deal with every single one of them before he can raise that blade!'

Both Adonis and Griffing were having opposite thoughts.

While Griffing was walking besides his father, there were some kids and women looking at them with weird eyes

"What is that guy doing, letting that poor boy fight those beasts?"

Gossips from all around the crowd started to flow like there weren't more important things to focus on.

Adonis of course could hear all of this yet when he looked at his son and could only sigh since Griffin had such a determined look that even some men lacked.

A ten year old with more courage than some of the men who decide to not fight and instead cower in fear to the point of getting their pants wet, pathetic indeed.

The boys and girls within the crowd looked at Griffin with admiration instead. They were powerless and Griffin was just 10 years of age. It's true that he was bigger than some boys, he still was just a kid, he just had more courage, although some might consider it foolishness.

North Gate

"Argh!"

"Nece, stay with me man, don't die like this"

Nece, a soldier fighting at the north Gate had been stabbed by a Crescent wolf who managed to get past the already busted gate.

"H- hey, Jester'

"Don't talk, you are bleeding badly"

Just as Nece tried to look at his abdomen, Jester stopped him.

"C'mon buddy, we will get you somewhere safe alright?'

"Jester, tell… my wife that… I lo- love her"

With barley muttering the last word, Nece's eyes went blank and all life scaped from them.

"Fuck Fuck FUCK!'

A sobbing Jester whose head was resting on his now dead companion couldn't hold his rage and stood up with Nece's sword at hand and ready for battle. His eyes bloodshot, his veins popping like they were about to pop.

"You nasty pieces of shit, by my friend's sword you will fall!"

Jester wasn't dumb enough to just jump right in the warzone so he slowly approached the closest Crescent wolf that was currently enjoying the corpse of another soldier. Once close enough, and with a twist of a hand he was now holding the sword upside down and stabbed, and stabbed, and stabbed multiple times even though the wolf had already died. His rage wasn't easy to comprehend by the bystanders who couldn't get distracted for too long either.

Their armors, consisting of white Canvas pants and red shirt with short sleeves and a metal plate were already covered in blood, grey blood.

These Crescent wolf's gained that name due to the Crescent moon in their forehead, which looked as if it was painted into their fur by someone. They were also magical creatures who hunted in packs, and had become more aggressive in the last decade
