Chapter 17 - Pati the Thief and Knowing Each Other

With a playful smirk, Pati stands up from the ground before walking to the Zombie woman's corpse that just got killed by the man earlier. The corpse is split in half cleanly and it's easy for Pati to harvest its brain.

Squish!

Pati grabs the two perfectly sliced brains while looking at them attentively.

Although he doesn't get the items dropped by this Zombie woman's corpse that has been taken by the man before, he still got the brains that he can use to gain its Chaos. Some of the perks of having Brain Eater as his class.

'Let's wait for a bit, he might still be around here', Pati thought warily.

Other people gain Chaos by defeating a Zombie themselves while Pati needs to eat their brains. Just like earlier when he tested his ability by eating the Walker's brain killed by Jeff, he gains the Chaos from the Walker instead of Jeff.

It's not really gaining by default but it's more like a transfer instead.

When he ate that Walker's brain Jeff finds a message from the system that his Chaos has been deducted the proportionate amount to what Pati gains, so it's more like a forceful transfer.

If the man is still around and he finds the same message, he will instantly search for Pati.

Pati's current strength is no match against the man that can even send an energy slash that split the Zombie woman in two, it's very powerful and without a doubt. Pati will definitely get cut in half if he got hit by that.

After waiting for five minutes or so, he then finally eats the perfectly sliced brain.

Unlike the chewy and kind of bland taste of the brains that he had eaten before, the brain of the Zombie woman is like eating candy. The sweetness massages Pati's tastebud gently, and it's almost like eating candy.

"It's freaking good! Does the stronger the Zombie the tastier their brain is?", he exclaimed.

Munching and chewing on the brain greedily, Pati then finds a message from the system that appears in his vision showing a number that surprised him. His expression slowly turns from surprise into delight.

[Sucessfully Gained a level 25 Sticky Crawler Chaos]

[You have obtained 11,000 Chaos]

'Oh my god! 11,000 Chaos?!', Pati exclaimed while looking at the message.

This amount is way higher than he had expected, he thought it will be around five or six thousand but turns out it's eleven thousand instead. Without wasting any second, Pati grabs the plastic bag he dropped earlier and ran inside the university building.

For such a huge amount of Chaos, that man will definitely go back.

Shortly after that, Pati reached the sixth floor with exhausted breath. Every inch of his body is screaming tired to him from the fight he had with the Sticky Crawler.

Pati looks to the side and finds the battle is already over.

Without even checking if the man and the brown-haired woman succeed in killing those Walkers, he instantly went to the escalator again heading to the ninth floor. He reaches the classroom and enters the door.

But his eyebrows raises a bit when he saw the brown-haired girl survive.

Looking around the classroom he only finds Dinda and Jeff aside from the brown-haired girl, this means that the guy is dead from fighting the Walker or he tried saving the brown-haired girl and ends up dying himself.

From the looks of the brown-haired girl, Pati finds the latter is more probable.

There's no way the brown-haired girl that has a very frail body and also a meek personality can survive on her own against the Walker, the guy must've stepped in and died but given enough chance for her to finish the last Walker off.

Pati's eyes then landed on Jeff who miraculously has already looked better.

When he left the classroom Jeff seems to be sickly but now he was brimming with power, and he even already made his move and sat beside the brown-haired girl, "Pati! How's the hunt, you got scratcher or something?"

"Nope, but I almost died but got saved by a man from the outside", Pati replied nonchalantly.

Ignoring the girls, Pati puts the plastic bag full of brains in the corner before he sat on the floor feeling a bit tired. Dinda and the brown-haired girl are certainly disturbed by the brains he brought, but he didn't care.

From the fight he had with the Sticky Crawler, he needs to get stronger and stronger.

He got lucky this time getting saved by that man but next time he will not be so lucky, especially since he will be going out from the university in a bit. Pati was about to open his status window but was stopped by Jeff.

"What?! That Zombie must've been very powerful", Jeff sucked in a cold breath.

But the girls are even more surprised since they saw first-hand just how powerful Pati really is, he takes down two Brawlers and also the Acidic Fatso without a sweat. The Walkers are practically babies to him too, so finding that there's a Zombie that almost killed Pati gave them goosebumps.

Dinda who is hearing this from the side then asks, "Where did that man go?"

"Leaving already? That's quite harsh", Pati replied with a sneer, he can see that Dinda is like a parasite that wanted to flock to the strong but he didn't blame her. It's better to be another one instead of a brain-eating maniac like him.

With the sarcastic remarks, Dinda closed her mouth shut while Pati opens his status window.

[Pati Sinaga]

Level: 10

Race: Human

Class: Brain Eater

Title: None

[Stats]

Health: 950/1000 (100)

Insanity: 27 (-)

Chaos: 12,455

Strength: 114(10)

Agility: 102 (10)

Vitality: 55 (10)

[Skills Window]

Active: Hammer Fist Lvl 2, Leap Lvl 2

Passive: Zombie Mind (Max), Intimidation Lvl 1, Zombie Scent Lvl 0

Before he started to distribute the Chaos to increase his stats, he saw there is a change in the Insanity section. It raises from non-existent to 27 points, he didn't know what this stat is about but it should relate to his mind or something.

Pati tries to tap for a description to no avail, he can only sigh dejectedly.

Deciding that he will just have to see what that Insanity is all about, Pati then shifted his attention and checked on the new passive skill he got from eating 20 Walkers' brains. Zombie Scent.

[Zombie Scent]

You will now have a scent that is identical to the Walkers, only this allows you to be recognized by Zero Circle creatures as the same species.

'So I can walk around Walkers without getting attacked? That's convenient'

For some reason the Zombies no matter what type they are doesn't attack other Zombies, they only attack humans and eat other Zombies that have been killed by a human. Pati notices that as he paid close attention to what he was seeing.

Information in this kind of death setting is something valuable,

He needs to gather as much information to get a rough picture of the situation, this will also increase his survival rate when push comes to shove.

After checking the new passive skill he got, Pati then focuses on his stats again rubbing his chin in thought. Without a doubt Agility stat is king in this world, getting infected by the Zombies will spell the end of his life.

So with that in mind, Pati pours 12,000 Chaos into his agility stats raising it by 30 points.

Now that he already reached the 100 points mark, the cost of raising one stat point is 400 Chaos, double that of before. So even though he spent 12,000 Chaos, it only raises his Agility stat by 30 points.

It's still three times the agility of a normal human though, so that's a huge improvement.

Pati still has many brains that he has not eaten that should give him around more than five thousand Chaos, he will save it in case of an emergency such as before, 'I'm pretty sure Pershala is that robed figure, but what exactly is it?'

'Some kind of a portal for the next stage? Merchant? What is it?'

Upon reaching level 10, the system said that he can now talk to Perhsala.

From that sentence alone he can't really get much information, but he has a huge hunch that it's the robed figure inside the green light energy shooting into the sky. The backpack on its bag makes it looks like a merchant of some sort.

'But still, what kind of items is this Pershala selling? Weapons? Potions?'

While he's thinking about the Pershala, Pati raises his gaze to look at Dinda who is lying her head on one of the tables tiredly, "You, blonde girl. What's your name?"

"Huh...? Me?", Dinda points at herself in surprise.

"Of course, I'm talking to you. Who else has blonde hair here?", Pati replied shortly.

Dinda pouted a bit feeling that Pati is quite harsh in talking to a woman such as herself, she then replied lazily, "Dinda, just call me Dinda"

"Okay, Dinda. Tell me all about your status window?", Pati asks again.

Since the apocalypse has just begun he's quite distracted by the Zombies, the feeling of getting stronger, and even the brains that somehow taste different than what he used to. Because of that, he forgot the basics of every team should have.

Knowing each other.

Pati doesn't even know what class Jeff has, surely everyone is given a class just like himself.

Hearing this, Dinda waves her hands stiffly trying to open the status window, "Status window...?", just as she said that her eyes widen as it seems her status window is finally opened.

After briefly reading her status window, she then summarizes her status window.

Dinda started explaining from top to bottom, she's currently a level 2 human with a class of a Novice Healer. Just like what Pati got as his class, it seems everybody also got a class that is suited for their job basically or field of mastery.

Since she's a nursing major student, it's not a surprise for her to get such a class.

She also possesses an active skill called Light Heal which allows her to heal someone at the cost of Chaos, aside from that, one of the things she explained that surprises Pati is that her Insanity section is 67 points.

It's way higher than himself.

He then shifted his eyes to the brown-haired girl and Jeff who both explains their status window in turns under Pati's probing gaze.

The brown-haired girl's name is Salsa she's a level 3 Novice Rogue.

She got an active skill too but hers is more like a defensive skill, she had a skill called sneak that is pretty self-explanatory. Allowing her to sneak around costing Chaos per second.

Jeff on the other hand is a level 7 Berserker, something that Pati didn't expect him to have. He has an active skill called All-out slash. It's quite weird for someone like him to get a berserker class, and it seems this thought is plastered clearly on Pati's face.

"I know what you think, but I once had a slight temperament problem... Basically, I went to therapy to get rid of the anger issue that occasionally bothers me", Jeff clarified.

Hearing this, Pati nodded his head as his class now makes sense.

Anything regarding Berserker in any games that he played is basically a bloodthirsty warrior that is always angry and thirst for battle, so having anger issue is quite related to that.

But aside from knowing their strength, Pati finds they all have high Insanity stat.

Pati doesn't know whether he should be glad or sad that he has a low insanity stat, but no point in thinking about it now. He won't figure it out until the right time comes about the Insanity stat.

Just after they finished introducing themselves, except for Pati of course.

The green light shooting at the sky where the robed figure lies suddenly flashes brighter, Pati and the others saw this and then they saw the sky rumble. It's a majestic sight as the entire sky that is covered by dark clouds turns green for a brief moment.

"What is happening? Is it another wave of Black Wind?", Dinda mutters.

Hearing this, Pati glanced at Jeff pointing at the side, "Get me the binoculars!"

"Here...", Jeff gives the binoculars to Pati hurriedly.

After getting the binoculars, Pati then looks through the binoculars toward the robed figure direction. Unlike the last time, he saw another figure inside the green light with the robed figure that looks familiar.

Turning the focusing screw to help him see better, Pati finds the figure inside the green light is the man that saved him before.

'What is he doing there?', Pati thought in confusion.

But not long after, the man got out of the green light before the sky rumbles again. A green gas that slowly turns into the number nine appeared in the sky as if declaring something, and not long after that the number nine disappears.

Pati and the others look at the sight before they all frown.

All of them were confused by the sight but Pati has some thoughts about the number nine, 'It's definitely a countdown, but what is it counting down for...?
