Vin sat outside, enjoying the beauty of the night, while watching the Town. Although night, the surrounding was more like a busy morning, teeming with people.
From merchants to workers, they were all going about, doing their daily job—One which is less important.
After enjoying the view, Vin stood up from the railing in the balcony he sat on. Heading towards a room, he got ready a piece of paper, some bottle of ink he found on the shelf and a quail lying casually on the bench in the room.
Taking a seat beside the window, he placed the paper on the table. Lightning a candle as the source of light in the seemingly dark room, he proceeded to write.
Dipping the quail into a bottle of ink, he wrote down a letter to Snow.
Immediately the quail touched the paper, a Nix flew in. Its elegant beauty sparkled before his eyes.
"A Nix? Just what I needed" Vin said, starting the letter…
"Dear Mr Snow.
"Truly, I'm happy to write this letter to you and I'm sure your mind would be at rest immediately after seeing it.
"Days back, counting to about two, we started our journey into Elaskor to complete a mission which the end result was one to be happy about.
"An upper ranked moon Demon, Two upper ranked moon Demons. Shadow and Daron by name. Both have exceedingly incredible abilities and their strength, beyond imagination. Shadow welded a scythe, giant two scythe he took from the underworld. While Daron had swords which spilled blood.
"What intrigued me was the poison in the weapons. Demon blood spilled on the blade with hate, creating a poison from an unknown source. Yet, Shadow said it was from his blood specifically, so we have some point there.
"Lucas was badly injured by Daron and he's unconscious. Although his state seems critical, he sure will be well soon. The good news is that we have been helped by Mrs Carolyn, a doctor with a kind heart. She knows about mages and dwells in the quiet side of Elaskor, away from its busy and crowded streets, and she is the one tending to our wounds.
"I shall conclude this letter here with a brief warning; The demons are growing stronger and their resistance, much worse. We have to prepare, especially knowing in our heart that the top ranked demons are still preparing to eliminate all mages, magic users, witches and all those who prove to be rebellion and keep them out of the way.
"In about a week, or when our injuries are completely healed and we are ready to begin our journey, we will Elaskor and head back to Zenphek.
"I would want you to stay safe and keep all those who are trying to help the weak, strong at all times.
"Yours sincerely,
"Vin, Eden and Lucas."
Allowing the ink to get dried, he folded the paper and placed it sealed in an envelope. This, he folded again, before placing it in the pouch around the Nix.
"Please send it to Snow, and ask him for extra treats. I don't have any now."
Understanding what Vin had said, The Nix flew away, flapping its wings, while embracing the cool night breeze drifting pass.
Standing up, Vin walked out of the room, leaving without a single concern to the Darkness which seemed to watch him.
______
On the second night in Elaskor, Vin has gotten more details concerning this town and secrets which cannot be hidden for long.
When Carolyn had finished attending to the last patient suffering from a common illness, she shut the door and lit up various candles.
"I'm back from shopping!" Eden smiled, walking in with two baskets filled with vegetables, fruits and grains. Flour included.
"Thank you for helping out!" She gratefully appreciated his hard work.
"That won't be a problem. Remember, you took care of our wounds, this is the best we can do to show how much gratitude we owe you" Eden told her, heading to the kitchen.
"Please check on Lucas"
"Sure thing."
Eden climbed up the stairs, right after he dropped the basket.
Carolyn had a smile on her face, seeing how they all worked in harmony.
"You are Sad and angry!" Vin told her, even though he stood facing the window, watching the crescent Moon.
"Uh?"
"You are sad and angry, yet you hide them behind your smile."
His words left her speechless and she knew hiding it won't do any good.
"You are right Vin, I'm angry and mostly sad."
"Why?"
"I lost everything in a war which happened years ago. A war between mages and Demons and another, between hunters and vampires-..."
"Wait, you gotta be joking about vampires, right?" Vin said in disbelief.
"No I'm not. They are creatures which suck blood, having little to no stop of their own actions."
"I thought we were only battling with Demons?"
"Yes we are. You don't get me. They aren't those creatures you think of as pale skinned men of top aristocrats, No. They are monsters of the night, crawling out to kill and devour humans. However, there are Vampires who live in the dark without such monstrous looks, and they stay hidden and silent."
"Whoa, there is so many and I know little"
"Yes Vin" Carolyn stood up, walking to a shelf, where she brought out a framed picture. Handing it to Vin, she pointed at the tall man with striking features. "That is my husband, Derek. He was a vampire. And he lived in peace and happiness, throughout…."
"What happened to him?" Vin asked her, as he saw her expression changed.
"He was killed. Ten years back by the people of a far away Village where we used to live. We-... We… always…" tears rolled down her cheeks as she recalled the memory of her husband.
"I'm sorry!" Vin placed a hand on her shoulder comforting her soul.
"My only son was killed by the battle between mages and Demons, and it was my fault. If only I held him tightly, none of these would have happened. I would have still been with at least one of them.."
Carolyn broke into sobs, making Vin's concern and sympathetic towards her.
"I never knew, I'm sorry about all your loss."
"Vin," She called once again, "We are living in a world of monsters."
