Chapter 38 - Demon Whisperer

The event of the previous night still had it's effect on some people while others forgot it all.

The guests had returned back to their homes in the morning leaving the palace quiet and calm.

Christiana sat in her room, her mind still playing images of what happened last night in her head. She couldn't bring herself to stop thinking about all that happened.

The way the priest looked at her left her feeling uncomfortable and weirded out. She could still remember how much Rage kept shaking that it even bothered her then suddenly out of the blue he stopped and stood up like nothing happened leaving everyone shocked and confused.

Throughout the entire event she couldn't help but feel the piercing gaze of the priest on her.

"Maybe I am just overthinking it all" She said to herself trying to stop her mind from wandering.

She held the book she was reading tighter going through every word with focus. Over the time she had gotten better at translating that she could read a book written in demon language though not perfectly but she still could do it.

Earlier she had told Anna to get her a book from the library anyone as long as it was written in pure demon tongue so she could test how much she had improved.

Her eyes swept through the pages as the sun radiated into her room from her window.

She heard an endless wussing sound from outside making her pull her eyes from the book. Chris stood up long forgetting her book. She walked over to her window to inspect the source of the sound.

It sounded like something flying through air with force.

Leaning over the open window, she caught sight of a man shooting arrows at a board placed at a distance.

His grip on the bow looked gentle without actual force. He pulled an arrow from the bag on his back with so much grace.

She watched him with sparks in her eyes. She has always wanted to learn archery. He placed the arrow on the bow. His whole aura was calm. It looked like he could even shoot with his eyes closed.

His hold on the arrow released. It flew with great force wussing through air and landed perfectly on the board piercing through the other arrows on the board.

Chris eyes widened in surprise. She felt so amazed that it took alot for her to prevent herself from clapping. She would look like a creep if he saw her watching.

She looked over at the man trying to see his face but all she could make out was his white hair. The sun making it glow even more.

"Archery...that was so amazing! I must learn" She said excitement in her eyes. She clutched her dress in her hands and ran out of her room.

The maids in the hallway weren't fazed anymore by her run. They were used to seeing her run like a mad woman that they didn't care anymore.

Chris ran out of the castle and towards the field.

'Maybe I could get him to teach me' She thought. So far all Elder Fluke was interested in was getting her to unlock her powers and teaching her the abilities of a demon. Which I must say is countless.

She headed towards the place she saw him but it was empty. The board was still in it's spot but no one was around.

Chris looked around trying to search for the white haired fellow but he was no where in sight.

"Where did he go so fast?" She questioned feeling dejected.

"Are you looking for me princess?"

A man's voice came from behind startling her. She jumped and turned around. Her eyes widened when she saw who it was.

"Lord Leonard" She said looking shocked.

Lord Leonard stood still watching her. His demeanor was calm like he wasn't surprised she was here.

Chris saw the arrows on his back making her realise he was the one she saw.

And here she taught maybe she could get whoever it was to teach her?

Would Lord Leonard agree to teach her? She thought to herself.

He doesn't seem to like her that much from their earlier encounter.

"Um... Can you shoot?" She asked instead pointing at the bow in his hand.

Lord Leonard stared at her blankly.

"Isn't that why you left your room and came here?" He countered raising a brow.

So he saw her? She thought to herself.

Chris felt embarrassed that he caught on. Her cheeks reddened. She tried changing the conversation to prevent further embarrassment.

"The weather is nice today. Isn't it Lord Leonard?" She said looking up at the red sky.

"I ask again Princess, why are you here?" Lord Leonard asked not letting her change the conversation. His eyes zeroed in on hers.

His seriousness scared her. She cleared her throat moving her feet nervously.

His eyes held her in position.

"I came out for some fresh air. The weather is nice" She lied biting her lips.

Leonard lips pulled up on it's edge and later returned back to it position as fast as it appeared. He pulled out an arrow from the bag and held his bow in place.

Chris eyes widened as she saw him target the bow at her. She stood still in place, her heart thumping away in fright.

Is he that angry that he was going to shoot her??

Is she about to die now??!!

Lord Leonard lined the arrow on the bow his grip tight around it's edges. His eyes were dark and empty as it zeroed in on an obviously scared Chris.

He pulled the arrow ready to fire.

Chris shut her eyes in fright as her feet refused to move.

The next minute the arrow was released. She covered her face as she felt it rush over her. The wind around her picked up.

She waited for it to hit her but nothing came. Chris slowly opened her eyes peeking out.

She looked over her body but she wasn't hit. Their was no blood or arrow or even Lord Leonard in front of her.

She turned around and saw that the arrow had hit a bird. Lord Leonard was standing over it inspecting it.

Chris rushed over to him. Her heart melting at the poor sight of the bird shaking on the floor in pain. It bleed out from the spot the arrow pierced it.

"It's hurt" she said looking up at him. Lord Leonard didn't react, his eyes just watched the bird with focus.

Chris upset at his behaviour knelt down and picked up the bird. It's black feathers were painted red and the arrow was still in place. It kept squeaking in her hand.

She felt bad for the poor thing. What kind of man would have the heart to kill a bird.

She glared at Leonard and stood in front of him.

Leonard looked down at her with a raised brow.

"Take it out" she commanded glaring at him.

Lord Leonard raised a brow at her.

"The arrow. Take it out." She repeated. Her face enflaming red not with embarrassment but anger.

Lord Leonard watched her as she struggled to take it out herself. His lips pulled up. He held the arrow and forcefully pulled it out from the bird and threw it on the ground.

The bird was still shaking in her hands trying to hold on to it's life.

"Can you heal it? It's in so much pain" She pleaded feeling sad for the bird. Her fingers rubbed it's head.

"I would drop that if I were you." Lord Leonard said calmly.

"What? Why? I am not as cold as you're that I'd let an innocent bird die!" She raised her voice clearly offended from what he said.

"It's sweet and stupid that you feel the need to show how kind you're but that's not an ordinary bird" Lord Leonard said upset at how she spoke to him.

"What?"

Without further explanation he took the bird from her hand and broke it's neck with his fingers.

Chris gasped in shock. Her eyes widened as she stared at him in fear.

Lord Leonard didn't care what she thought or how she suddenly saw him.

The bird engulfed into black smoke and disappeared into thin air.

Chris was creeped out. Her eyes opened wider.

She pointed at his hand shocked.

"The---the bird!!" She exclaimed staring at his eyes in fright.

"Like I said that wasn't an ordinary bird" He said and turned around walking away. Chris hurriedly followed him walking beside him.

"Then what was it?" She asked looking at him curiously.

"A demon whisperer" He said.

"A what?" Chris asked confused.

Lord Leonard halted and turned towards her. His eyes fixated on hers.

"Go back to your room princess" he said and left her walking away.

"No wait!! I need to know" Chris yelled running after him.

His steps were fast but yet it didn't look that way.

She tired catching up to him but he was way ahead of her.

"At least teach me archery please!!" She yelled breathlessly.

Lord Leonard turned around to stare at her. The sight of her amused him.

Chris face brightened as she got his attention. She took a step towards him when he suddenly disappeared into thin air leaving her alone.

She stumped her feet angrily. Her face turned red in fury. She stumped her way back into the castle clearly upset. Despite being part demon she couldn't give up the human reflex to walk and so she did.

'I wonder what a whisperer is?' she thought to herself.
