Chapter 4 - Saying Grace

...

As Sylvie arrived on the first floor, together with Abel, she walked over to the basket that was placed on the table when Sylvie arrived at the orphanage.

Sylvie wanted to go and find a baby chair for Abel when dinner was finished, cooked by Ester. Sylvie went to a smaller storage room, compared to the upstairs, that was across from the bathroom, located on the first floor.

Sylvie raised her palm in the air and said

["Light"]

After finishing her words, small particles of light that appeared from nothing formed into a slightly bigger ball of light formed just a few centimeters above her palm.

'Let's see if I can find that chair, shall we?' Sylvie thought to herself.

Sylvie was trying to locate the baby chair for Abel, but for the first few minutes, all she managed to find was pots, pans, some cooking utensils, a few extra chairs and a few other smaller things.

'Why is it that I'm finding everything else that I'm not looking for, but can't manage to find the thing I am looking for' Sylvie thought to herself as she was getting annoyed and rather impatient.

A few minutes later, Sylvie managed to find a baby chair, which Sylvie was relieved and happy. However, the baby chair wasn't in the best condition. The wooden baby chair looked like it was thrown in there. It looked old and some pieces of the wood were chipped. Although it wasn't clearly in the best of shape, it was certainly able to do its job.

After managing to find the baby chair, Sylvie made space to put the chair between Ester's and Sylvie's chair so they can feed and clean Abel when needed.

Sylvie looked at the kids who were playing in another room from the dining room. Some were dancing and signing, others were battling with sticks that they found from outside.

Sylvie looked at them with a joyful and a tad bit jealous expression. She remembered some of her early childhood day's where she used to do similar things with her family and friends, then suddenly she remembered rather unpleasant memories.

Remembering the conversation with Ester from earlier, she snapped out of it and tried to think positive.

'Come on, Sylvie! It's all in the past' Sylvie thought to herself as she slapped both of her cheeks with her hands.

Sylvie went to grab Abel and placed him in the baby chair. After doing that she went to the kitchen to see if Ester needed help.

"Need any help, Ester?" Sylvie curiously asked.

Ester looked towards Sylvie's direction and smiled slightly and said

"Why, yes I do. Can you wash and cut some of the vegetables over there?" Ester asked while pointing at vegetables on the kitchen counter.

The both of them were preparing dinner for them and the kids. It took 15 minutes to prepare it and 30-35 minutes to cook it.

After the dinner was finished cooking, Ester called the kids to the dinner

"Kids, dinner's ready! Come and eat!" yelled Ester

""Yes!""

""Finally"

The kids started to gather around the table to eat their dinner. While they gathered around, they noticed Abel. Some knew little about Abel while others didn't and thought that the other kids were lying when they told them that another kid, especially a baby, joined the orphanage and it's no less than an outsider. So they were quite surprised to see another member around the table.

The kids sat down and patiently waited and talked among themselves. Some were making faces towards Abel, while Abel giggled.

5 minutes went by and finally dinner was served. They were having venison vegetable soup, which consisted of venison, onions, carrots and other vegetables.

Before they began to eat, Sylvie asked

"Before we eat, why don't we say our prayers and thanks?" Sylvie looked towards the left and said "Connor, why don't you start us off?"

Connor was the boy who tripped and fell earlier. He was a young boy, age 12. He had short blonde hair, green eyes. His clothes were a bit dirty and they looked a little small on him, but still wearable. He was the oldest among the other children, however he wasn't as mature as some. As he was about to begin eating he was stopped by Sylvie with the question of him saying grace, while he was a bit reluctant but still said

"I'm thankful for the God Cidros as he blessed the humans to wipe out those vile demons from our lands!" said Connor. His parents were killed by demons so he wanted to grow up and hunt demons, however he wasn't fortunate enough because as he said earlier, the demons were already close to extinction.

Sylvie wasn't particularly happy with Connor's choice of words and expected him to say something appropriate. So she scolded him by saying

"Connor, I understand how you feel about Demons...However, we went through this multiple times to say something appropriate at the dinner table, didn't we?"

"Y-Yes...But I'm really thankful though. I don't have many thanks in this world and that is the one thing I'm most thankful for" said Connor as he was looking down, twiddling his fingers.

Ester noticed Connor's reaction, she decided to try and lightened up the mood by saying

"Ms. Sylvie, I understand your intentions as I agree with them, however, Connor is but a young boy, we should just let him say his grace and move on, alright?"

Sylvie looked at Ester and realized that saying anything further will be pointless so she moved on. She looked to her right which was a young girl and she asked her

"Beth, why don't you go next?"

Beth was the second oldest of the kids. She was 10, but was rather mature for her age. Seeing the previous discussion earlier, she didn't want to say anything that was deemed inappropriate, so she said

"I'm thankful for the love of Ms. Sylvie and Ms. Ester as they put the extra effort of taking care of us each and everyday

Bethany or Beth for short, was a 10 year old girl. She had brown hair, with a bit of a reddish tint towards the ends. She had purple eyes. She wore a dirty purple-blueish dress. She liked to help around the house, trying to act above her age. Although at times, she can be a bit playful with Eve.

After she was saying what she was thankful for, Sylvie and Ester smiled at Beth's thanks and they both nodded with satisfaction.

The next 2 were both boys with similar ages.

The first one was Louis, a 9 year old boy with light blue hair, which matched his eyes. He had a dirty white shirt, and a bit tattered shorts. He had a playful personality and he was particularly close with Hayden. He was thankful for being able to play with Hayden and eating the delicious meals Ester made.

Hayden was the other boy who said his grace. He was also 9 years old, a little younger than Louis by a few months, He had brown hair and green eyes. He wore something similar to Louis but had blue overalls with them. He was a bit shy compared to the rest of the children. The only people who he was close and willing to open up with were Sylvie, Ester and Louis. Hayden was thankful for being able to read books that Sylvie sometimes managed to get and also not being lonely with the company of Louis and the other children.

The last and certainly not least child was Eve. She was 6 years old and was very adorable. She had frilly blonde hair and bright blue eyes that glinted with innocence. She had cleaner clothes compared to the other children and she wore a flower dress. She wasn't able to talk as fluently because she was young. However, everyone was able to understand what she was saying. She was thankful to the planet for having friends with everyone at the orphanage, especially Bethany. She also enjoyed playing outside with the small insects.

After everyone was finished saying grace, they began to eat. It was very delicious and somewhat bitter as they were poor, so seasonings were scarce and expensive. Nonetheless it was still an enjoyable dinner. Sylvie was also feeding Abel everything except for meat as he wasn't able to chew properly. He started to shake his hands in the air due to delight because of the food, which was the first time he was eating.

After dinner, Sylvie wiped Abel's face and afterwards with the help of Ester and Beth, they cleaned everything off the table after everyone was excused.

After everything was cleaned up, everyone was told to enter the bath one after another. With the help of Sylvie, everyone was able to bathe with fresh water every time, thanks to her magic.

After the kids were finished, they were told to go to their rooms and get ready for bed. Ester got in the bath and was perfectly fine without Sylvie's help. After she was finished, She went to her room and got ready for bed. Sylvie drained the bath water with the help of the engraved symbol at the bottom of the tub. She refilled her tub by activating her magic

["Water Ball"]

Sylvie got in with Abel and washed Abel and herself properly. Abel wasn't fond of bathing and started crying, but he had no choice because Sylvie wasn't going to let him sleep without bathing.

After they got out, she activated the symbol at the bottom of the tub, she quickly dried Abel and herself by activating her magic once again

["Dry"]

After they were dried, Sylvie wrapped Abel in his blanket and while she was wearing a towel that was closely sticking to her curves, she ran up the steps towards her room. She put on a rather big white shirt alongside her pink panties, and she got in bed with Abel getting ready to fall asleep.

Abel fell asleep rather quickly and Sylvie was admiring Abel's adorable sleepy face and said

"I don't know why you were abandoned Abel, however I'll do my very best to make you feel as if you weren't" she said as she kissed his forehead.

She took one last glance at Abel, then looked outside from the window at the 3 colored moons. The biggest moon was white, the second was red and the third was green.

After a brief moment she started to close her eyes and started to sleep.
