Chapter 1 - AURA

Leilani Silva brushed her fingertips over the delicate surface of the purple lily, that had just bloomed. She smiled to herself, a warm comforting smile as she saw the white aura that shone brightly around the newly bloomed flower. Closing her eyes, Leilani felt herself relax in the warm feeling emanating from the flower.

Leilani had no memory of when it all started. Ever since she was a child, Leilani could see and feel the emotions of every living thing, be it animals, plants and most especially people. She saw their emotions as auras wrapped around their bodies.

Each living thing's aura could be in different colours and could also change colour depending on how they were feeling at the moment, just like the lily in front of her. It was in full bloom, healthy and bright, making the aura a pure white colour.

It was hard at first, but Leilani had to come to terms with the fact that she was born and stuck with such a strange ability, even though it wasn't easy to live like this. Her ability was also one of the reasons Leilani had no friends or couldn't keep the friends she had managed to make. One glance at their aura and Leilani could tell how they felt about her. It was mentally exhausting.

Leilani opened her eyes and looked around the greenhouse she stood in. It was filled with flowers, a place Leilani loved to be. Flowers always had pure auras and it was comforting being around them. That was where her love for flowers stemmed from. Taking a step back, she gave the big greenhouse one last glance and walked over to the entrance.

Leilani ran a small flower shop down town. It was a few footsteps away from the greenhouse she loved so much and where she got the flowers she sold from. Approaching her little flower shop, Leilani slipped through the back door. She walked into a small working space. It had several boxes stacked at a corner and a small cabinet beside it. At the farther end was a small mahogany desk which had a laptop on it and a small chair rolling chair beside it.

Leilani walked over to the door that connected the small working space and the shop and swung it open. She smiled as soon as she saw the flowers. Leilani opened the windows on each side and let air and sunlight stream into the dimly lit shop.

She walked over to the store's entrance and flipped the rectangular sign that had closed and open on each side, to the side that read open.

Leilani began to examine the flowers on each shelf, checking if the roots were still fresh and the leaves had not withered. The sound of the bell jingling at the top of the door, caught her attention. She turned back and saw a tall young girl that was probably in her twenties. She had dark, long straight her and had her eyes filled with dark eyeliner.

Leilani walked over to the counter, adjusted her horned rimmed glasses and smiled at her.

"Welcome, would you like a bouquet? Or you have a particular flower in mine that you want to get?"

The girl looked around the shop nervously as she rubbed her arms. Leilani saw the dark blue coloured aura wrapped around her and knew that she was feeling quite down.

"I uh, I..." She trailed off and pursed her lips together.

"Why don't you tell me who you're getting the flower for?"

The girl looked up at Leilani and nodded shyly.

"I-Im getting it for my boyfriend."

"What is he like?"

The girl pondered on it for a while and her cheeks went red as she smiled. Her aura slowly changed from dark blue to a bright coloured pink. That colour meant love, pure love.

"He's very artistic, and likes abstract colours and shapes. He also loves nature." She said, smiling like she was enjoying the memory.

Leilani smiled and spun around, walking over to the shelf. She picked up a bunch of magnolias and grabbed a wrapping paper. She wrapped the flower up neatly and turned to her customer.

"Magnolia signifies the love for nature and I'm sure it'll be perfect for your boyfriend."

The girl stared at the bouquet in awe, her eyes twinkling as she took it from her slowly.

"Wow...it's beautiful." She breathed, her aura, shining brightly.

Leilani could feel the love emitting from the girl.

"I'm sure your boyfriend would love it."

The girl nodded in agreement. She pulled out a few dollar bills and handed it over to Leilani. The girl waved her goodbye as she walked out of the store.

Leilani sighed, a sigh of satisfaction. It gave her immense joy to see her customers happy and satisfied. Giving the entrance one last lingering look, Leilani went back to checking on her flowers.

The bell at the top of the door jingled again and Leilani spun around, ready to give her next customer a big smile. But as soon as she saw her customer, she couldn't smile, nor could she move. She stared at the man in bewilderment. He had no aura.
