Chapter 2 - PURPLE EYES

Not once. Not once had this ever happened to Leilani since she had noticed the strange ability she had, not once. She took instinctive steps backward, like a prey, being cornered by a predator.

This man, that stood in front of her had no aura, no one. It was dumbfounding, and terrifying for her. All Leilani could do was stare, in awe at the man who had just entered her shop, she couldn't help but look at him from head to toe.

He was tall, his face having defined features. His golden brown hair was let down freely, a couple of multiple strands covering his forehead. His deep blue eyes seemed to draw her in. They looked empty, and void of life, it was fascinating, yet sad.

The man walked over to the small oak counter and placed hand down on the surface. Leilani flinched and noticed she had been staring at him.

"Um, w-would you like a bouquet..." Leilani managed to muster.

The man smiled and raised his hands up in the air. Leilani suddenly felt a rush of fear run through her. Usually, she could tell a person's next action by their aura and the way they were feeling, but now it was different. Why was his hands up in the air? What was he going to do? He hadn't said anything, making things even worse. Uncertainty, a feeling Leilani had never experienced before. It scared her, greater than it was supposed to.

The man moved his hands closer to her face and Leilani thought her heart would jumped out of her throat. He placed his fingers on the left lens of her glasses and cocked his head in a peculiar manner.

"These glasses, they're fake, aren't they?" The man's baritone, yet smooth voice echoed through the tiny shop.

Leilani's heart indeed feel like it had escaped her chest. She moved back again and adjusted her glasses with shaky hands.

"T-Theyre not fake." She stuttered.

She was stuttering? Leilani couldn't believe herself. This man in front of her, posed a greater threat that she could ever imagine. He gazed at her, a knowing smirk curling up his small lips.

"That's a lie."

Leilani's face went bright red as she flushed. She was full of embarrassment and slight anger.

"How did you-"

"I can tell. The lens is too thick." He cut in.

Without any sort of warning, the man lunged his hands forward and swiped her glasses away from her eyes. There they were, staring at each other, the man's eyes wider than hers as he stared at her eyes. Leilani clenched her fists and grabbed her glasses away from him, placing it back carefully on the bridge of her nose.

"Is that...is that eye colour real?" he said in awe.

Leilani bit her inner lips. She had tried so hard to cover her eyes and made perfectly sure that no one sees it, but now he had seen it. What was she going to do?

"Your eyes, they're purple." He breathed.

Leilani pushed the glasses further up the bridge of her nose and looked at him.

"Yes, they're fake. Now, if you're not purchasing a flower, then please leave, you're bothering me." Leilani said firmly.

"Thats a lie."

"What?"

He tapped the edge of his lips and smiled.

"When you lie, that part of your mouth twitches. I noticed it the first time."

Leilani brushed her fingers against the side of her lips and felt it twitch. How could he have noticed such a small detail about her. Was he a psychologist?

"Then again, I don't think anyone is dumb enough to wear contact lens and glasses at the same time."

Leilani flushed. He was right. Lying about it was dumb. But Leilani was hell bent on not showing her strange eye colour to anyone. She could remember her mother tell her not to show any one her eyes no matter what. Her mother's words played in her head like a broken record, a rule and warning that she had to abide to no matter what. But now someone had seen her eyes. Leilani began to tremble visibly. Memories of her childhood suddenly began to play like a tv screen in her head.

"N-No, I don't want to be treated like a freak anymore." Leilani mumbled under her breath.

The man reached forward and touched her hand.

"You seem shaken by what I did. I apologize, I didn't mean to scare you."

Leilani recoiled and withdrew her hand from under his as she stared at him with great caution.

"Don't touch me." She said, clutching her hand tightly.

"I'm sorry."

"Leave. Please leave my shop now." Leilani said firmly.

The man sighed and rummaged his pocket for something. He pulled out a small business card and slid it on the counter surface.

"Here's my business card. I'd like to apologize for what I did in a proper manner. I won't bother you. Just call me whenever you want."

The man gave Leilani one last look and exited the shop. Once she heard the jingle at the top of the door, Leilani finally relaxed, all the tension leaving her body. She sunk to the ground and raised her knees up to her chest, clutching them tightly as she exhaled sharply. Her head was spinning. It was taking her a lot of time to process what had just happened for the past minutes. A weird man that had no aura. It got her thinking. Maybe there were people in this world that didn't posses any aura. But that would be impossible. As long as you're a living thing and you feel and have emotions, then you would definitely have an aura.

Leilani sighed, a tired sigh and picked herself up from the ground. She looked at the business card on the table and picked it up. The word vines was written in a bold font on the small white card along with a phone number written at the bottom. Leilani shook her head as she squeezed the card, throwing it in the bin. There was no way she was going to call. He was far too dangerous to be around.
