One I'd only heard about in bedtime stories,
it was a dragon, it was a baby, but I was certain it
was a dragon.
It had thick laminated scales that sparkled
brightly in the sunlight, teeth as sharp as butcher
knives, and claws equally big and sharp as lions.
One thing I may have forgotten to explain is
that this was also a human creation; they invented
it with us to protect them, but after we developed
our own minds, we were ejected out while dragons
stayed with them.
Dragons were not permitted in this area of
the globe, and I stared at it with half wonder and
half perplexity and by the looks of it everyone was
just as shocked as I was.
"Aren't dragons supposed to be in the
human world?" Maya broke the silence and
whispered. Her whispering caused the dragon to
look in our direction.
"Everyone... do not move," Riya
whispered. But it was too late the dragon came
running towards us. We had to think fast or we
would become dragon food.
"Riya!!" I yell loud enough for everyone to
hear. She gave me a look of horror then, as if a
light bulb of an idea popped up on her head, she
nodded and turned towards the dragon.
"Riya…. Whatever you are thinking of doing
right now…. Please don't do it."zed Said with terror
on his face. But by the looks of it we could tell this
terror was for Riya not himself.
"Trust me,I have a faster way to reach your
destination, Talon." she gave me a wink and lunged
at the dragon.
Look out! I run towards Ben and tackle him
down just seconds before the dragon's spiky tail
hits him. Ben looked into my eyes with his sparkling
red ones and whispered under his breath, "you
saved me?"
I gave him a look before helping him up, we
both turned to see Riya climbing on top of the
dragon and getting flung off of it. She hit a tree hard
and fell back.
"Riya!" Both Ben and Zed went running
towards her while I went to grab Maya, the closer I
Got to to Maya i realized she was right under the
dragon Gave a tiny peek up and there it was
standing firm and tall staring into Maya as she
stared right back at it she lifted her hand straight up
and closed her eyes bringing her hand in front of it.
The dragon gave it one sniff and began to
lick her hand and placed its head on her hand firmly
as if to show that it no longer felt threatened. I
backed up just in case and had my hands ready to
grab Maya if anything went wrong. Maya slowly
leaned in closer and began to climb it, "wha…what
are you doing Maya you'll get hurt." Zed gave her a
sharp glare while helping Riya on her feet.
"Talon, this is the perfect time to help you
master the black colony skill." Riya raises her arm
towards Maya and Maya comes running to her,
"teach him how you did that."
"You want me? To teach him?" she points at
herself then me in disgust. "She's a kid, you want
me to learn from a kid?" I let out a small giggle
which hinted at embarrassment.
"Yes, I do, now Maya teaches him."
"Okay, I guess." she slides towards me and grabs
my hand, "Are you ready?" Her voice was soft and
steady. "As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, trying to
mask my nerves.
She nodded, a slight smile playing on her lips.
"Good. Remember, controlling a dragon is not
about dominance, but about understanding and
respect. You must form a connection with it." saying
this she narrowed her eyes on the dragon and a
strange mist began to release from her eyes. This
dark mist sent an essence to the dragon resting at
the far end of the clearing. Its scales shimmered in
shades of black and dark blue, and its eyes glowed
with an eerie intelligence. I took a deep breath,
feeling worried I might get eaten by it.
"Approach it slowly," Maya instructed. "Let it sense
your presence. Show no fear." I walked towards the
dragon, each step deliberate and measured. The
dragon's eyes followed my movements, a low
rumble emanating from its chest. I stopped a few
feet away, meeting its gaze.
"Good," she said, her voice calm. "Now, reach out
with your mind. Feel its energy, its spirit. Let it know
you mean no harm."
Closing my eyes, I focused inward, searching for
the connection she spoke of. I reached out
mentally, trying to touch the dragon's essence. At
first, there was resistance, a barrier of mistrust. But
as I persisted, I felt a spark, a tentative link forming
between us.
The dragon's rumbling quieted, and its eyes
softened slightly. I opened my eyes and could
sense a strong mist releasing from them.
Great, "Now, direct it. Use your thoughts to guide its
actions. Show it what you want it to do."
I focused on a simple command: rise. I pictured the
dragon lifting off the ground, soaring into the sky.
The dragon hesitated, then slowly began to spread
its wings. With a powerful thrust, it launched into
the air, circling above them. A thrill of exhilaration
coursed through me but I let the feeling go and kept
my focus on the connection.
I turned towards Riya and saw her smile widened.
"Well done, Talon. Now bring it back down, gently."
I concentrated on the image of the dragon
descending, landing gracefully in the clearing. The
dragon responded, its massive form touching down
with surprising delicacy. I let out a breath I hadn't
realized I was holding.
"We're going to reach the red gates in no
time," Maya lets out in excitement, "come on girl
let's go." she says in a loving voice and gives me a
nod of approval.
Ben held on to Riya while Zed and I began
to climb the dragon, still hesitant whether it was a
good idea or not . "don't worry she told me she
won't hurt us." Maya says, laying her hand flat on
the dragon's neck.
" I think that I should handle the controls for
now, at least until you master your skill."
The dragon gave a little smirk while shutting its
eyes then stared dead straight into Riya's. "OHH,"
Zed began. "You have beef with a dragon dude."
Riya glares at him before smacking him hard then
looks towards me embarrassed. Act as if I didn't
hear him and give her a smile before looking away
and holding in my laugh.
"Everyone, hold onto her scales,dragons
are known for their speed." Riya says, grabbing on
to it. And with that it slowly lifted from the ground
and began in full speed towards the red gates.
