Chapter 9 - Ben Who?

"Are you trying to tell me that there is more than one chosen one?" I inquire as my red, flaring hair calms down and turns blue.

"Yes and as far as we know you get your powers one by one."

"Like the fire, which represented the red colony at first, and now the strength, which represents the black colony." Riya took a seat next to me, holding the scroll.

"Which also means that the next time you're triggered, you'll turn purple." A noticed her smirk, but she covered it with her hand.

"I have no idea how to control any of this, and I don't think I can do it." Being the chosen one sounded cool, but having the duty to bring peace to the world made no sense because I had just run away from the most peaceful place I could think of, my home, the palace…

It was peaceful even if I was alone.

The more I thought about it, the more I regretted calling it peaceful. It felt like a jail. I was just missing home. I think I'm getting Stockholm syndrome, I thought to myself.

"That means you'll have to practise." Riya said as Maya approached me and took my hand in hers. I gave her a faint smile as she tightened her grip on my finger and began bending it. "ugh!" "What are you doing?" I asked, with a slight groan. "Tell her to stop Riya," I said, but she just kept pulling and twisting them tighter.

I scowl in pain, trying to break free, and shift my gaze to Riya, then back to Maya, wondering what on ZAGOROTH they were up to. Riya sat there, unconcerned.

I snapped because I knew if I didn't, she'd keep going and eventually break my fingers. I looked her dead in the eyes and tilted my head, Maya flew off and nearly hit her back on the bookshelf when a cushion came in the way, and my gaze shifted from her to riya, whose lilac eyes were back in action.

I felt like I was in a trance, dizzy as I looked at my hands and hair, and I dashed towards the small mirror that hung on the wall directly in front of the main door.

My hair was purple, and my eyes were in a trance of changing to purple.

She was trying to break me, to the point where I'd snap and adopt another colour of the colonies.

"Are you insane?! I could have murdered you!" I charged at Maya, who motioned me to stop and pointed to Riya, saying, "her idea....not mine."

"You have all the colours all you need now…is to learn how to control them."

"Um…we have a problem." A red fae burst in from nowhere, and froze as she saw me turn towards her with half my face and hair purple and half blue.

"Who are you?" I question, Looking at him then back towards Riya, his red hair was short and stiff like he had applied way to much gel in it, i had to admit his body was well built and it did make me feel insecure, even though i worked out a lot i was nothing compared to his tall slim yet muscular body.

"Since you're in our hideout, I can ask you the same question." He folded his arms and walked up to Riya, wrapping his arms around her.

I had a feeling they were more than friends, and I know I shouldn't care, but I was jealous.

"What's the issue, Ben?" Riya asks slowly, slipping free from his grasp.

"Oh, there are royal guards outside, searching every house for a blue royal fae who I've heard escaped his room last night."

What dweeb would abandon a castle to live on the streets? Must be some sucker who saw a spider and fled." He began to mimic my fearful expression.

I tilt my head slightly and wonder if someone as intelligent as Riya really wants to be with him.

I roll my eyes and turn to face Riya, who now has Zed rubbing his chin on one side and Ben on the other. She was reprimanding Ben in hushed tones when I heard a faint whisper, "that's the Prince." Then she began to shift her gaze towards me while keeping her head in the same position.

Ben froze for a minute. He seemed shocked, "you're telling me this baby is the prince?"

"I thought he was 17, tall, and...well, hot?" Ben continued to mock me for several minutes, and I just tried to block him out with white noise as I watched Riya hit him and then bend her head down; I knew she was talking to him telepathically.

"Stop bothering him. We need him." When I looked around, the voice seemed to come from everywhere. I quickly recognised Riya's voice and could hear her conversation with Ben, in their mind.

"Why not simply hand her over to the guards?"

"Because he's one of the chosen Ben.... and he's my friend, and you either learn to live with him or leave."

I give her a small smirk before shifting my gaze to Ben and winking at him then asking, "What are we going to do? They'll take me back if they find me." Panic began to set in.

"We're headed to Ben's colony." Riya smiles at Ben before returning her gaze to me.

"we're going to the red colony."
