Chapter 27 - Growing Energy

I have received hits in the past, maybe from Nate or Geo while sparring or from students when they get some hits during a position fight. I have never received a hit as strong as this.

The kick was devastating and it sent me flying. I was on the floor on the other side of the arena before I knew it. More seriously, my eyes were closing. I was trying my best to stay conscious but the arena was rotating in my eyes, people becoming double as I look at them.

Katie began the countdown as I remained on the floor. I could make out Rio who was already celebrating his victory. The crowd was cheering and buzzing.

I remembered the terms associated with the fight. Everything that is at stake. The martial arts, football team, Katie and most importantly Jane.

"7...6...5"

Katie was about to count the last number and Rio would win the fight. Just as she was about to finish the countdown and my senses grew subconscious about the environment, I felt an insane amount of energy surge inside of me.

It was a kind of energy I have never felt before. I stood on one knee first so the countdown could stop. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the growing energy.

It is a white circle, the size of a fist. It was growing, rapidly increasing to the size of a baseball and then two baseballs joined together. My strength increases as the circle enlarge. I don't understand the dynamics of the energy but it was helping me out and that's a good thing.

I was on my feet by the time the circle became the size of two baseballs. I was feeling stronger than ever. I was no longer bleeding and my nose looks as if it healed itself.

Katie had long stopped counting. Since I got up on my knees as that is the rule. The noise in the crowd has subsided, becoming almost silent. They all thought the match was over and that I have lost, so their expression when I suddenly got back on my feet isn't surprising.

My opponent, Rio, who was all proud and glistening a few seconds ago now has on his face, a very gloomy expression. It was as if his long-time enemy reincarnated after a last fight and a bold THE END.

The fight resumed and Rio dashed at me in anger hoping to finish me off once and for all. I didn't wait to be on the defensive like last time, I also wanted to end the fight as quick as possible. There's something wrong about that strange energy inside of me.

I dashed at Rio at an incredible speed. I was faster than normal, thanks to my newfound energy. I sent a kick to Rio's lower belly and he at the same time, sent a kick to my rib cage. The two strikes hit, simultaneously.

When Rio sent the kick to my rib cage, I felt the ball of energy move to that side of my body on its own. If you were to touch that side of my body at that time, you would think it was made of iron.

My kick connected with Rio's body head-on at the same time his kick touched me. When my leg hit Rio, he was sent flying to the other side of the arena. His kick has done next to no harm to me as it hit the hardened part of my body. His leg must have hurt, I guess.

Rio didn't remain on the ground as he was up and charging at me once more. This time, he jumped in the air, spun, and threw a kick to my neck. Before his kick could get to me though, I already hit him mid-air with my fist and he was sent flying again.

The crowd that has been silent for a while now, erupted into loud cheers. Rio remained on the floor for some time but I wasn't going to give him the time to recover, so I charged at him.

'This strange energy is taking over my body. I might not be able to handle it if this fight goes on beyond five minutes.' I thought.

I couldn't afford to let him regain his strength and waste more time. My speed has increased more due to the energy ball growing in size. I got to Rio in split seconds and performed a strike that I had learned from Nate.

I jumped in the air before I got to Rio, spun, and stretched my knee and elbow outwards, aiming for Rio's neck. I was going to end the fight then. The strike was about to hit Rio when he rolled over to another side and dodged.

The crowd had screamed when I aimed that attack at Rio. I saw Katie from the corner of my eyes, trying to attempt to stop me just before Rio rolled away.

Rio got back on his feet and was bouncing like he has all his energy back. I have a bad feeling about it though. It seems as if he has not used his qi since we began the fight because I can feel a new energy around him. He looks more confident than before as well.

I wasn't fazed by his confidence though. I have about three minutes left to end the fight. I was the aggressive one once more as I ran across the floor to Rio. He ran across the floor to my side as well, just like before.

When we were a few steps away from each other, we plunged into the air and throw punches, aiming at each other's faces. If that punch touches anyone of us, then it'll be the end of the fight. Rio's newfound strength doesn't seem like one that'll last longer too.

Our punches collided mid-air. The force from the punch was felt through the arena. On the outside, it doesn't seem like either of the punch is going to win out but I can tell there's a difference in those punches.

The expression on Rio's face shows that he is in pain, his metacarpals are getting broken and they might be damaged totally if he doesn't retract them.

He retracted his fist and I kicked him in the stomach, and he skidded off. I rushed to his side as I had less than a minute left. I kicked him in the chest, applying the right amount of force to knock him out.

Rio lay on the floor, unconscious while Katie began the countdown. The crowd was counting along with her. The energy has taken over my body totally and I was now losing consciousness.

"3...2...1... THE WINNER IS..."

That was all I managed to hear before my eyes gave in and I fell on the floor.
