Adria stood up to his feet With his face heavily swollen on one side and a bleeding nose. He massaged his face feeling wronged
"Now, that's just a waste." Adria lamented the loss of his small bottle of wine that was crushed and its content pouring to the ground. The loss made him sigh in regret.
He stretched his back a little.
"Now!! Where have you gone?" Adria's powerful eyes looked around. Even though it was dark, it was clear as day to him.
In the far distance, he could see a father telling his children bedtime stories, and in a faraway corner, a rat rushing to capture a flying moth with its mouth. All this he could see clearly from over a kilometer away.
As he searched, he finally saw what he was looking for. "Haha! got you."
Meanwhile, the vampire moved from rooftop to rooftop in a hurry. Those that saw it through their windows or balconies as it passed were plagued with fear and they rushed into their homes.
But at the moment, this vampire only had one thing on its mind, and that was to get as far away as possible from that Darkling that divided its companion into two and even sliced off the hand of another like it was scissor against paper.
Once in a while, it would look behind to ensure it was not being pursued. After quite an amount of distance from the facility, it landed on the balcony of a house. It looked behind once more but could not find anybody.
An achieving smile stained the side of its mouth.
However, as soon as it relaxed and sat on the balcony, it was surprised to see another person sitting on an opposite balcony waving a 'hello'.
It had subconsciously waved in response before it remembered something.
After all, it was a blood-thirsty monster. It should not be waving at humans and at least definitely not at the vampire hunter waving at it.
Realizing it was Adria, it growled loudly at him. The growl woke the residents of the home up and a small chihuahua ran out to the balcony. Its eyes laid on the intruder who was the vampire and a series of cute barks went out from its small mouth.
"Hey, President Lincoln. What is the problem? Why all the barking at this hour of the night?" An old woman with a walking cane asked as she slowly came out of her room.
"Shit!"
Adria did not need to be told before he knew that vampires plus innocent passing civilians were a bad combo. And as if to confirm what he just thought, the vampire exchanged eye contact with him and then it looked at the old woman and gave a malicious smile. Its broad spine tail went like a dart after her neck.
Adria's quick legs immediately moved and he barely made it in front of the woman before the pointy end of the spine tail reached her. Unfortunately, he had to use his own body as a defensive barrier to protect her. The tail pierced sharply through his shoulder.
*Tip tap*
Drops of blood leaked from his wound one at a time on the tiled floor.
Meanwhile, the old woman with her Myopia eyesight did not know what was happening. The moment her eyes caught sight of Adria in front of her, she used her cane to beat his head continually.
"Burglar! Oh! my god, it's a burglar!" She screamed loudly. "How dare you? Don't you have anything better to do with your life than steal from an old woman?"
"Hey, old lady, I'm not a thief! I'm not a thief!" Adria tried to protest but all he got was the undivided attention of her cane on his head.
He noticed a set of glasses hanging from her neck. Instantly understanding her condition, he helped her put the glasses on.
The old lady now seeing clearly the pale face in front of her, screamed in fear as her walking stick increased the number of strokes on his head.
Adria was now at a loss for what to do. But President Lincoln, the brave chihuahua knew what to do. It immediately ran for the vampire and took a deep chunky bite out of its leg.
The vampire growled. It kicked the dog away. The dog hit the wall hard and fell to the ground, bleeding from its head.
"PRESIDENT LINCOLN!!!" The old woman shouted.
"Shit!" Adria turned to the vampire. Obviously angry at what had just happened. He grabbed the tail that had gone through his shoulder and pulled hard.
He pulled the vampire close and laid a direct punch on its face, sending it out through the balcony.
He followed it out the balcony. Leaping out, he landed not too far away from it. He was about to continue his good work when the scream of the old woman caught his attention.
With a powerful leap, he was back into the balcony. He got back into the house only to see the old woman hugging her dog tightly in her arms. She was in tears.
Screams outside drew his attention again. And when he looked, it was some passersby that had just seen the vampire.
The vampire got on its feet and with powerful jumps, it ran away into the distance.
Adria wanted to pursue but then his ears caught the subtle cries of the dog in the old woman's embrace. As much as he wanted to go after the vampire, he just couldn't find himself ignoring those low pain-filled moans.
*sigh*
He turned back, "Old lady, let's take your dog to a vet. Also, can I borrow your phone for a minute?"
....
A few minutes later, a black power bike arrived in front of a vet clinic. Emilia got off the bike and placed her helmet on the seat. She entered the clinic. At this time of the night, no one would usually be here. But an old lady sat in the waiting room subbing into a picture of a dog in her hands.
On seeing her, Emilia instantly understood. Earlier on, Adria had called her and told her to meet him here. But at the moment, he was not here.
She sighed as she sat close to the old woman. She brought out a handkerchief and handed it over to her. "Don't worry ma'am. I assure you even if that idiot does not take his own life seriously, he definitely takes the life of animals very seriously."
"Really?" The old woman asked.
"Absolutely! In fact, I'm more worried about what he would do to that Vampire right now."
....
And Emilia was right, cause at the moment the beast had just made its way through a dark alley and Adria followed. But unlike expected, he walked gently, taking one step at a time. He was not even disturbed that the vampire was getting away.
Or was it?
The light of a signboard at the corner flicked a bit, revealing Adria's face. He looked a distance from the usual pale handsome face he had.
He was obviously angry but that was not the peculiar thing about his looks. A few drops of blood ran down from one of his eyes. And as he was enveloped in the darkness once more, both eyes glowed in a frightening crimson.
The entire alley was soon enveloped by inhuman screams. Much like the cries of a dying boar caught in a trap...
