Emilia waited with the old woman and soon enough, a nurse came along.
"Ma'am we are done with president Lincoln. You may take him home now."
"Oh! thank you. Thank you so much." She stood up and hurried in the direction that the nurse pointed.
*Cling*
Emilia turned about to the sound of the door opening. As expected, it was Adria. However, his entrance was followed by an ear-piercing scream from the nurse.
That was because Adria had entered with blood stains all over his face, the briefcase in one hand and the head of the vampire in another hand. With the head dripping black blood all over the white tiled floor.
Immediately she saw him, she pulled him by the hand and out of the clinic. "You idiot. Don't you know the kind of place you are in?"
She took the badly beaten head from him. Sighing as she imagined the kind of torture the unlucky fellow had gone through before its death. Then she dumped it in the nearest trash.
"Look at you. You are a mess? Even though I told you to bring its head, haven't you ever heard of a figure of speech?" She scolded him to his face. Even though she had high boots on, she was still a head shorter than him. It looked a bit comical to the nurse peeping through the window.
"Here, sit down a bit." She entered the clinic and came back out with a roll of tissue paper. She gently wiped his face with it.
"It was not for you." Adria replied her.
"Hmm!?"
"I mean the Vampire's head. It was not for you." Adria answered..
"Okay!" She smiled sarcastically. "And who was it for?"
"President Lincoln," he answered," he worked hard, but got hit on the head."
She was about to make fun of him and about the history of dead presidents but then she remembered that was the name of the old woman's dog.
"Oh! I see." She lifted his face to her own, "That was actually nice of you." Emilia added.
For a moment as she held his face in her palms, her face actually drew closer to his. And then her eyes caught something wrong.
His eyes were glowing crimson. "Adria Your..."
"Ahh!!!" He moaned in pain, coughing as he crouched to the ground. His hands stretched revealing his arms changing form. They were becoming slightly bigger and even attempted to tear through his clothes. His fingers grew longer as he dug them into the ground.
His skin became paler and cracking sounds could be heard from his back as his body slowly changed form. His teeth also became sharper and blood leaked from his eyes.
"Damn it ADRIA!!!" She cursed as she hurried to her power bike. "When last did you take your medicine?" She opened a compartment by the side and brought out an injection gun and a syringe. Fixing the syringe on it, she rushed to him and used it on his neck.
Soon enough, the effects of the liquid from the syringe kicked in. His muscles relaxed and his eyes and other body parts became normal ones more.
He breathed heavily in relief. "Thank you!" But as he raised his head, a kick found itself on his face. Ahh!"
"You are not a normal Darkling Adria! you are part Vampire. If you do not want the world to know, take the stupid medicine." Emilia adviced with more kicks.
He rolled over on his back. After a few more kicks, Emilia felt that it was enough. she had sufficiently quenched her anger.
"That's for forgetting to take your medicine." She left him on the ground and mounted the bike, "we have a debriefing. I'm sure you noticed too. These ones were smart. At least smart enough to hustle out information and not Ryeoun cores(soul cores), Just like that one ten years ago."
Reminding Adria of the events of ten years ago brought a frown to his face, he looked away from Emilia. Apparently, it was an issue he did not want to address.
"Also, Mummy wants to see you." She put on her helmet and patiently waited as Adria crawled from the ground and unto the bike.
"Adria!"
"Yeah!"
"I don't know want happens in your head. But please, if you do not want what happened the last time you turned to repeat itself, take your f**king drugs!"
He nodded slowly, and in a low tone, he answered "Okay!"
She sighed as the bike was brought to life.
She made several turns through the streets until they were on the Freeway. Adria felt drained and tired. He rested his head on her back as his hands wrapped tightly around her waist. This was a little after effect of the drug Emilia had given him. It was one of the many reasons he hated taking them.
Although she felt that he was probably just using the after effect of the drug to take advantage of her, she did not protest and just let him be.
The bike came to a slow stop because of the red traffic light. Adria looked around as his nose enjoyed the pleasurable but subtle smell of Emilia's perfume.
The city was bright with its lights and even though it was late at night, it was still as busy as it would be in the daytime.
The message from an advertisement board hanging on a building caught his attention, "At Avalon, we care about the safety of you and your loved ones. This is why our Darkling program to produce more capable hands against the vampire menace is our number one priority. Come, and sign up now. Remember Darklings are your friends." The advertisement board even had at the end a picture of two Darklings fighting against a horde of vampires.
Ironically, just below the board was a fat man with a megaphone preaching against Darklings. "My brothers and sisters. we should keep the soul pure. Regardless of what they call it, Ryouen is still from the soul. Using your soul other than for the reason god created it, which is for life, is a recipe for disaster. If you touch the soul, you are no more pervasive than a vampire or a Darkling. I tell you the truth brothers and sisters if you continue on this path, you shall burn in hell. I repeat. In HELL!"
As he talked loudly, some passersby dropped loose change into a small bowl at his feet.
On yet another Advertisement board, was a news reporter giving updates, "The United Countries (UC) has given the permission for project Green Earth to finally commence. An interview with the head of the ten individuals that have solemnly pushed for this project has promised that If it is a success, we might see deserts turn to tropical forests in a few years." A woman with a set of big round glasses was shown talking to a reporter and Adria could not help but stare.
"Hey. Mummy! mummy! Look! it's a Darkling." A young boy pointed at Adria through the car window.
"Sit down boy! And stay away from that window. Darklings are bad news." The mother scolded as the window of the car went up. Adria's attention was brought back to earth. He did not mind what the boy's mother said. He smiled and waved and the boy waved back.
"It seems that our reputation has taken a dive these days," Adria commented.
"Yeah, I see. It is because of...
