Chapter 4 - Impending Disaster

Austronesian Empire, Imperial Maharlika, Maynilad, Malacanang Palace.

1999, 31, 4th Week, December.

The man was sweating profusely as he keeps on shouting for the emperor. Eventually, the emperor took notice of this man and brought the man towards a private place where they could speak privately. The dignitaries present around the Palace were utterly confused on what was transpiring, but none of them dare to invade the privacy of the emperor. Whatever it is, it must be very important for someone to dare to disturb the emperor's celebration for a new millennium. However, uneasiness was widespread among the dignitaries.

The young man was panting and was taking his time catching breath. Unfortunately, what he has doesn't allow much time and so he spoke as soon as he was able to catch a bit of breath.

"Your Majesty. I have brought grave news. I have figured that it is best to tell you this, instead of calling you through the line, as I believe this is of utmost importance and must not be risked to be leaked towards our enemies that we in fact know what they are doing." The man said.

"Alright, young man, you have piqued my interest. Now speak," the emperor said.

"I have come from the Intelligence Division of the Austronesian Constabulary, and our spies have brought shocking news from over the other side of the ocean." The man said.

The emperor's eyes twitched, and the mouth slanted downwards.

"Go on," the emperor said.

"Your Majesty, it seems that the North American Empire has developed a technology that could control the weather. Before we could extract more information, the radio went silent." Said the man.

"…" The emperor was speechless.

The emperor's hands twitched and his hands became shaky and soon after, he finally gave out an order.

"You, young man, have done a great job of alerting me of this information. Your division will receive an award. However, your job here is not done yet." The emperor said.

The emperor took out a piece of paper and wrote a letter, after which he gave a seal on the letter.

"Because of the possibility of our lines being tampered, you must bring this letter to the Imperial Secret Police headquarters near here. Because of some reasons I cannot go there as I'm visited by other dignitaries here, just to be safe. If there is a spy, they wouldn't know anything. If we show something out of place, they might get suspicious. Now young man move there as fast as possible and without raising much suspicion," the emperor said.

"Right away, your majesty," the man said.

The man then moved out silently out of the palace and headed towards the Imperial Secret Police.

The letter that the Emperor sent towards the Imperial Secret Police so that they may alert their brothers in Xinhua over a rise of tensions and to prepare for the worst. Unfortunately, the worst was only to come. It didn't last long before another man or official came crashing down the celebration.

"Your Majesty!"

The dignitaries were utterly clueless about what was happening, which gives off an awkward atmosphere through the palace. Unable to hold back what the official was about to say, to which he blurted out all the things that he was going to say.

"Your Majesty! We have detected a massive storm that was classed just now as catastrophic developing in the middle of our empire! Your Majesty, we need you immediately back at the headquarters!" The man said.

This brought shock to faces of the dignitaries, while it shocked the emperor to the core. It seemed like if he was correct on his assumption, that would mean that the North American Empire had indeed developed a technology to control the weather. Thinking how this would be disadvantageous for them in warfare brings chills to the emperor.

However, this shock didn't last long as he immediately ordered his first orders to the official.

"Alert the populace of this information and have them evacuate to the evacuation centers and mobilize the liberation army for potential conflicts and disaster," the emperor said.

The last part sent chills down the spine of the dignitaries, which made some of them ask what is happening. These people were the president and prime minister which are, Sebastian Miles Oliver, and Lucian Magnus Remy.

"You'll be alerted of the information I received earlier. For the meantime, help me bring relief to our people who might suffer a once in a lifetime disaster and to face our potential aggressors." Said Maximo the Emperor.

"We understood, your majesty," said the president and prime minister.

Both the president and prime minister have a very confused looks on their faces, but they followed their emperor.

"My fellow Austronesians, it is very unfortunate for me to say, but the celebrations as of today are cancelled and I strongly advise for you all to evacuate to the nearest evacuation center," Said Maximo to the dignitaries

After giving a speech to the dignitaries, Maximo the Emperor moved towards the palace where inside there was a bunker in case of warfare. In fact, all evacuation centers have bunkers that protect the populace from a nuclear fallout. This results from non-stop warfare in a world that is doused with gasoline where a single spark could burn the entire humanity.

After the emperor moved inside the bunker, inside the palace. There he was commanding each front of the Austronesian People's Empire. Along with the president and prime minister on a different bunker, the three of them commanded and help each other on getting through the impending calamity.

Soon enough, to the disappointment of the populace, they were finally evacuated and were, in fact, still having celebrations inside the bunkers, albeit less lively than they were on the outside.

The Liberation Army and the Constabulary and the Imperial Secret Police were on high alert, expecting on what's coming. Fortifications were set and relief stations for those who weren't able to evacuate in time were set up. It's as if the entire nation of The Austronesian People's Empire. became a ghost nation.

The time was ticking…
