Chapter 22 - Wings!

"Thomas, I think we should change the method of your training. let's put aside awakening your wings. Let's try if we can find some ability without the wings. Because our time is limited."

Thomas had already made up his mind to hear Anderson out and follow his instructions since he knew Anderson had a lot of knowledge.

"Okay."

"Did you find anything special about the pendant? I suggest you find a chain or a necklace and wear the pendant. You might find some clue."

Anderson said thoughtfully after he discovered this method was taking way too much of their time. It would only make Thomas late for the next step. At the same time, he thought that the pendant had something special for dancing fairies. He had seen his grandmother wearing it all the time.

"Let's try if we can find some powers for you. Usually dancing fairies don't have any special ability. As I know they rely on their movements. Some of them possess fire attributes. Some of them have water attributes. Like that, they have different powers but they need some certain movements to release those attacks. So you have to learn those movements. These are called dances by other people. So I will also just use that since it's easy.

I searched if there were any dances of your kind. But none of them were recorded in these books. So you have to find out things by yourself. I can't do anything about it."

Anderson said with disappointment. He actually had nothing to do. Everything was in Thomas's hand. Anderson could do anything. Dancing fairies had kept everything a secret.

Thomas could just think and try something. But nothing happened. It was not good. It was like he had no powers.

"Okay, students. Let's call it a day. Tomorrow don't be late and come on time because we have a lot of things to do."

When their class ended it was ready past 3 pm. The self-study period was also taken by them for training. But the principal had said it was okay since this competition needed more attention.

Other than Thomas, everyone had achieved something new that day. Other than the transformation, Thomas could do nothing. Along with his heartbreak about Simon, again he was heartbroken. He wished he could talk with Simon and relive his tire. But he made up his mind to rely on himself.

"Agh!"

Thomas rubbed his neck and groaned.

He saw the pendant and opened it, upset-minded.

'Is something special about it?'

He took out a chain and put the pendant on the chain. Then he wore it and walked in front of the mirror to check it.

It looked very beautiful. He touched it and lay in the bed lazily. His life was way too hard.

But then again, he felt it was a lot brighter suddenly. When he looked around, he noticed that it was the pendant that was shining. He stood in front of the mirror to check it. In front of his eyes, the pendant disappeared along with the chain. His neck was empty. He touched and felt the chain was really gone.

But how?

The only thing he saw was the pendant slowly become transparent and then disappeared.

Within three minutes after that happened Thomas suddenly felt something strange. He felt his back hurt. At first, he ignored it, but it suddenly got unbearable. He quickly went to Kevin and said his back hurts to the point he can't bear it anymore.

When Kevin saw Thomas in front of his door sweating and all pale, he was going to bring him to the hospital. But Thomas said he should meet Anderson first.

Kevin let Thomas stay in the room with Nick. Then he ran to the teachers' building and looked for Anderson. Luckily, it didn't take much time for him to find Anderson.

"Ah... Thomas said his back hurt. When I said I would bring him to the hospital, he said he want to meet you first."

Anderson thought it must be something special since Thomas asked to meet him. So he quickly moved to their dorms with Kevin.

Nick was trying his very best to comfort Thomas. But Thomas was in pain. He looked like a dead person. His body was very cold and he looked very pale, which scared Nick thinking it was something serious.

"Teacher is here!"

Kevin opened the door loudly as the two people in the room looked that way.

"Thomas! What happened? You don't look well…"

Anderson supported Thomas to get up from the bed.

"I just wore that pendant. But it suddenly disappeared into my body. After that, the pain in my back started. It hurt so much. I-"

Anderson quickly moved his hands to Thomas's shirt buttons.

He unbuttoned his shirt and threw it away. Then he turned Thomas around and watched his back with quick hands.

"He is getting wings!"

Anderson saw there were red marks on his back.

He quickly recognized it because he also went through the same thing. When Kevin said about back pain, he had already suspected it must be wings.

Anderson was happy about that. But they had to do something about the pain. Because some people had gone mad due to the pain. Anderson also had a hard time when his wings appeared. However, when it happened he was 13 and had no idea about those things. And he had his parents to worry about him.

But at the academy, they could only ask the hospital to help him lessen the pain.

"Let's bring him to the hospital. At least they could have a pain killer for situations like this."

Anderson asked them to follow him to the hospital.

As soon as they arrived, a few healers collected Thomas and went in.

"I think he is awakening his wings. Can you do something about the pain?"

Anderson was worried about Thomas. It was actually not easy when that pain came.

"Here is the matter. If we give him painkillers, I am afraid his wings might get stuck there, refusing to come out. It will be worse. So we'll just put him in the Sickroom and let the process continue."

The healer said. That sick room was a special room for people who are in pain, to cool themselves down. Even though it can't be helped to lessen the pain, it would confirm their safety.

Anyone who went in that room could cool their body and feel a little comfort rather than the pain.

"Okay, can we stay here until he is okay?"

"You can stay. But the students can't."

Since the healer declared they couldn't stay there, Kevin and Nick were sent back. Only Anderson stayed there impatiently.

Meanwhile, Thomas, who was locked up in a room, could see nothing. It was very dark. There was not even a light. But it was much more comfortable than before. He closed his eyes and laid down slowly, but his back hurts so much.

It felt like his back was tearing open. The wings were coming out.

He didn't know when he transformed. But he felt the leaves band on his head. Maybe it was because the wings were a part of that. He took heavy breaths and felt the coldness lingering around his naked upper body. It was comfortable.

As the time passed, he felt the pain lessened.  However, he couldn't see anything. And it was very silent around him.

He felt it didn't hurt anymore.

So he slowly woke up and tried to get up. But he fell back because his back was heavy.

He moved his hand to his back and felt something big had joined his back…

"Wings!"
