Chapter 192 - Pills

Gabriel not only felt upset over Claire leaving without a word of farewell but also he knew that there were going to be repercussions to Gabriel's actions. He just punched a son of his father's friend and the reason was the very person that seemed to know something about his father that he didn't.

Gabriel went to work early the next day, expecting his father any minute, barging and starting an argument.

He was surprised when the receptionist told him that someone from the International Crime Agency came to see him. He didn't expect Rosa to come back so soon, and she didn't.

Instead of Rosa's black curls, there was a young man with a scar across his face.

"Mr Moore." The man that might've been a little younger than him approached his desk. Gabriel didn't recognise him, not that he recognised that many people nowadays. "I'm Alexander Davey from the International Crime Agency. We met some time ago if you recall. I believe that Agent Rosa Summers worked with you in recent days."

"Yes, that's right." Gabriel nodded. "I have seen Rosa before. Is she alright?"

"She has left for a while." Alex smiled sadly. "I came to see you to catch up on all the unfinished business and see where I can take over from Rosa."

"Certainly." Gabriel stood up. "Would you rather discuss this in the cafe?" He offered, wary of his father appearing at any point.

Alex Davey nodded and they've walked there in complete silence.

They've sat down with fresh coffees and discreetly studied each other.

Gabriel automatically took out his prescribed meds as his watch vibrated with a reminder. He didn't think twice about hiding it from Alex. He was trying to hide it from general public in case his company will be considered as strong as him and as weak as him.

"Problems with pressure?" Alex asked as he looked at the small container in Gabriel's hand.

"No, issues with kidneys." Gabriel answered honestly as he swallowed the purple coloured pill with MP imprinted on it.

Alex went silent as he looked at the bottle of the pills. Something about the way he looked at it made Gabriel feel uneasy.

Alex shifted and took out exactly same looking bottle from his jacket's pocket.

"I am pretty sure that they're the same." Alex mumbled, his thoughts were racing. Gabriel looked down at Alex's bottle of pills comparing it to the pills in his hand. They were exactly the same. "You had an accident, didn't you? Were you given the pills afterwards?" Alex asked him, triggering some new train of thoughts that wasn't very different to Alex's.

"Yes." Gabriel replied shortly.

"Maybe they can be used for multiple ailments." Alex thought out loud but his words didn't sound convincing. Alex gulped and froze, his eyes fixated on Gabriel. "You forgot a lot from before the accident, right?"

"Yeah." Gabriel nodded.

"Same." Alex rubbed his face. "I will get going now. I'll check things with you in a few weeks unless something else crops up." Alex put down a small slip of paper on the table and left.

Gabriel looked behind Alex for a moment, perplexed as he realised that Alex didn't really say much and that he run off so suddenly. But then something ticked.

Gabriel looked down at his bottle of pills again. They were exactly the same as Alex's but for different issues. Beside the pills, another thing they had in common was the memory loss.

Gabriel contemplated on that for the rest of the day, and once home, he frantically searched the name of the pills he had. He found nothing specific on the internet. All that he knew was that the pills were produced by Moore Pharmaceuticals.

He searched the potential side effects of stopping the pills for his kidney issues, and after a long thought, he decided to carry out an experiment. That evening he missed the first dose.

Gabriel was sweating profusely as he laid in the dark. His head felt as if it was being bludgeoned. He was feeling dizzy and nauseous. He couldn't move. He was going through withdrawal symptoms within hours of missing the dosage.

He then proceeded to vomit violently way into the early hours of the morning.

Then, at last, he managed to shut his eyes and get some sleep.

His dreams were vivid. They were clear. But also they were incoherent and without clear link between them.

Once Gabriel woke up, he was confused. Until he realised that his dreams might have been fragments of memories that he has lost.

He didn't even remember how he lost his memory. His father told him that he had an accident without ever clearly specifying the type of an accident.

Gabriel hid in his office as he continued going through the withdrawal. With a pretext of having a flu, he escaped home earlier. He managed naps between bouts of sickness.
