Chapter 193 - Remembering

Gabriel's dreams didn't make sense. He saw his office, Diamond Corporate. His old home with the modern interior. He dreamt of mundane things that must've happened years earlier.

And then for the very first time, days later, he dreamt of Claire. He dreamt of how he saw her whilst sitting in his car and she walked across the car park wearing a black fitting dress. Even within that dream, he could recall his heart skipping a beat and then a rush of the blood through his veins.

When he woke up, that image was clear as day.

He realised that he remembered the very moment that he fell in love with Claire.

After three days, his body was still shivering but he stopped expelling the content of his stomach every time he opened his mouth.

It was also a day coincident with his father coming into his office. Gabriel used all of his energy to put up the facade in front of his father.

"Good morning, Gabriel."

"Morning." Gabriel answered quickly, worried that if he opens his mouth much more, he'd throw up at his father that approached his desk. "What brings you here?"

"I've heard that you were unwell."

"I had a flu." Gabriel answered. He wondered who was reporting this to his father and realised that he had people under his nose that he didn't trust. "I'm better now."

"That's good. You must take care of yourself. You are already fragile."

"Don't worry. I am taking a good care of myself."

"There is another thing that came to my attention. What went off between you and Daniel Jones?"

"It was a disagreement, dad." Gabriel lied. "We have some very differing views."

"But a fight? You are no longer a teenager nor do you have the physical wellness to act like that. What even provoked you?"

"Daniel was a prick."

"Gabriel, they are our family's friends." Michael said sharply with disappointment in his voice as he took a seat in front of Gabriel. "You cannot get rid of your allies because you disagree with one minor thing. I hope that you will apologise to Daniel, at least for the sake of the family relationship that we have with them and Francesca."

Gabriel looked surprised at the mention of Francesca. His mind long dismissed any thought of her and since Claire got back into his life, he didn't think of her once.

"I will not do that again." Gabriel answered honestly. He didn't plan to entertain another fight with Daniel but if what Claire has said was true, he would make sure that Daniel went back to prison for the all the shit he did.

"Good. As per Francesca, when I spoke to Damien and Katrina Jones, they were very interested to have the engagement party by the end of this year."

"Engagement party? What engagement party?" Gabriel furrowed his brows in surprise.

"Yours and Francesca's, of course. You both were so close before you lost your memory."

"I do not recall this."

"Well, you did lose your memory."

"Where has she been over the past few months?" Gabriel asked with irritation.

"She gave you space to heal."

"Then she can give me more space to heal. I still don't remember shit."

"You have to move on at some point." Michael replied sharply. "I will send you the information on the engagement party. Remember to take your meds and I'll see you later."

Gabriel looked behind his father who walked out of the door as if he came out of a business meeting rather than to check on his son.

Gabriel contained his annoyance, and after emptying his stomach again, he went for yet another business meeting. This time it was a meeting with his direct competitor, X6 Group.

He didn't really feel up to it and he hoped that his colleagues and employees will be able to lead the meeting but it was very quickly apparent how incompetent they were. Although exhausted, he managed to make it through the questions.

His eyes fixated on the assistant of one of the managers. Something was eerily familiar about the man.

After the meeting the assistant led Gabriel out of the room and towards the exit of the building.

Once out of sight of everyone else, Gabriel stopped, forcing the assistant to stop too.

"When did you start working for X6?" Gabriel asked the man with bald shiny head and smooth shaven chin. The man seemed to almost buckle under Gabriel's gaze.

"A year ago, sir."

The voice was equally familiar as the man's face. Gabriel frantically searched his broken memory of a dream or flashback that would tell him who the man was.

"I see. And what did you do before that?"

"I've worked in a different company, sir."

Gabriel paused recalling the face of the man from one of his recent dreams.

"Oh shit." Another man walked into the corridor and quickly tried to backtrack. He was equally familiar to Gabriel as the first man.

"Stop." Gabriel said behind him.

"Many apologies, Mr Moore. I didn't want to intrude." The second man said coyly before rushing away. Gabriel looked behind him in surprise. He was tempted to get the man to return but the first man still stood before him.

"What's your name?"

"Robert James, Mr Moore."

Gabriel contemplated on an answer and then it hit him.

"No, it isn't." Gabriel was disgruntled that the man lied. "I know you and you aren't Robert James. What a ridiculous name."

"Sir?" The man's voice trembled.

Gabriel rubbed his head as he felt the upcoming headache.
