Chapter 19 - Searching for a new quest

Drake walked into the town square and observed the dagger in his hand. It was made of pure silver and was extremely beautiful. "I wonder if it will sell for a lot." He muttered to himself. "I wonder if I should have killed the guy..."

Suddenly his attention was caught by some guards passing by, shouting at each other. He was about to walk away when he heard his name being mentioned, and he stopped. "It's that guy on the most wanted poster!"

"Yes, it must be him!" another guard replied.

"Capture him and bring him to the castle! Don't injure him!"

Drake looked around and couldn't see anyone suspicious. "Eh? Where?"

"Over there!" the first guard shouted, pointing towards him. Drake raised an eyebrow but didn't move. "Eh?!" The guards ran at him. Drake realized that something was wrong, he started running away.

"What?! Why is he running?!" the guards questioned as they ran after him. "Stop him!" Drake suddenly turned and began running down a back alleyway. "Where are you going!?" They chased after him and finally grabbed him by his shoulder.

Drake stopped running, and the guards almost fell on top of him. "Hahaha...enough, mister, nice guy" his face turned dark, and the next moment, the four guards were blasted away by a heat wave. Drake stood up straight and sighed. He felt someone behind him and turned and saw two more guards. The fifth guard stood speechless with eyes wide open. "H-how did you do that?" he couldn't believe what he saw. A person used magic without an incantation. Is this really the summoned brat that was rejected of blessing from the goddess?

Another guard answered. "Just because the person does not have a blessing does not mean they have no talent for magic." he walked up to Drake, who was waiting for them to get up and give him the answers on what the hell was going on.

"Speak," Drake frowned, "Before I will roast you worse than chickens."

The guards got up and took out their weapons. "That's enough! We're here to bring you to the king and the queen."

Drake rolled his eyes. "And why would I want to go there?"

"W-what?" The fifth guard stammered at the unexpected response, his voice breaking slightly."Y-you were summoned by the king..."

Drake smirked and walked passed them. "I may be staying in this country for now, but I am not planning on going to play heroes for you." With that said, he went in another direction. Five guards tried following him, but he soon disappeared. "He escaped...we lost our chance!"

Drake entered one of the many stores selling magical equipment in another part of town. Many people stared at him curiously. Drake didn't care, though; all he could focus on right now was finding the storage bag. Suddenly someone approached him.

"Hey there. You look a little lost. Need help finding your stuff? "

Drake looked over and smiled at the familiar brown-eyed boy. "Yeah, could you point me towards the store where they keep storage bags?"

The boy seemed hesitant but pointed him in the right direction. Drake thanked him and left. After looking through a few shelves, he found one. It was a little pricy, at the cost of two gold coins. But it was necessary for him if he wanted to continue working for an adventurer guild.

Luckily for him, the adventurer guild did not belong to a single kingdom and was an international guild that existed in every corner of the world. As an adventurer, he had no reason to oblige the king's request to return to the castle. He also did not wish to see his classmates. He was finally enjoying his freedom, he was pretty wealthy, and no one will take away that from him, especially not some con king, who basically released him into the world without preparation.

After buying the storage bag, he put his money inside and went to the adventurers guild. There he met the receptionist and asked if there were any quests available. "Uh, we do have a beast extermination quest... But..." she looked carefully at Drake's ID card and decided not to allow him to go due to Drake's low rank. "But... you're just an F-rank... And a lone F-rank."

"Eh?" Drake exclaimed. "An F?"

"You see, those are pretty wise monsters who hunt in packs," the receptionist continued. "So an F-rank must not go on this quest alone. Otherwise, you won't survive."

"What kind of monsters are we talking about," Drake asked nervously.

She gestured for Drake to come closer and nervously whispered in his ear. "G-goblins."

"Goblins?" Drake repeated the word as he looked at her carefully, trying to spot any sign of sarcasm on her face. However, the girl seemed genuinely worried.

"Goblins," she repeated.

"Eh..." Drake stared at her in disbelief and asked. "You mean those green humanoid creatures that wear crotch cloth instead of armor and clothes?"

"Y-yes." she blinked a few quickly before regaining her composure. "Those goblins are very strong and fast. They are fearless and don't mind attacking even if it kills them."

"That's not fearlessness... They're just dumb." Drake commented with a deadpan expression. "anyway, just give me the quest."

The receptionist shook her head and chuckled slightly. "I can't, sorry. I can look for herb gathering quest, though, if you want."

"Look, Angela..." he looked at the receptionist's name card. "... just tell me, if I will get paid if I gather evidence of exterminated goblins?"

Angela seemed confused and hesitated before answering. "Well, yes... But..." she looked at Drake clearly and noticed that she wasn't getting anything, so she shrugged her shoulders and told him about the quest. "Fine... this quest is just a simple gathering quest. You need to kill the goblins and bring their tongues to the guild. We pay ten silver coins for one tongue."

"Was that so hard to explain?" Drake sighed. Suddenly, he heard a voice behind him.

"Drake! Hey!~" Diana greeted him from behind after coming to the guild, hoping to find a decent-paying quest. "How you've been?"

"Prety good," Drake turned around and waved his hand in greeting.

Angela looked at the two of them and suddenly asked, "Diana? You know this boy?"

"Of course, I know him!" Diana exclaimed loudly. "Why?"

"H-he wants to take on the goblins' quest..." she stated with pleading eyes, asking to stop Drake from doing anything stupid.

"And?" Diana blinked a few times quickly. "What's wrong?"

"What do you mean by what's wrong?! He's an F-rank!" Angela lost composure and clenched her tiny fists, trying to seem as menacing as possible but looking like a pouting child instead.

"He's F-rank just in name," Diana giggled after seeing Angela trying to look scary. "At the moment, he needs to return to the capital's adventurer guild and receive his promotion to an A-rank."

"Eh?" Both Angela and Drake gasped in surprise at the same time.
