Chapter 20 - Dark healer's legacy

Drake was speechless and stared at Diana in astonishment. When he finally got ahold of his voice, he couldn't help but ask, "I am getting a promotion?"

Diana groaned. She had thought this reply would be from him; "Of course, you are, Drake. Did you believe a person who can kill over 20 high-ranked robbers would stay an F-rank?"

"Eh? Eh?!" Angela was shocked to the core as well by Diane's statement. "He killed more than 20 people?!"

"Uh... Don't ask..." Diana sighed while rubbing her temples. Then she came closer and whispered in Angela's ear. "Seriously, you don't want to know." Angela nodded and decided not to ask any further questions.

Drake, on the other hand, simply shook his head. He didn't understand what was happening, but he didn't care. After all, he wasn't planning on returning to the capital city, so his rank will remain the same. "Well, I will be taking my leave then." Drake gave a respectful bow and exited through the doors.

When Drake stepped out of the adventurers guild and saw the sun already high up above, he took a deep breath and headed towards the forest. The smell of fresh forest air calmed him, so he walked faster towards it. However, when he arrived, he heard a notification ping sound.

[New Quest available: Goblin Slayer]

"The system, huh?" Drake said proudly, after remembering that he actually had this System. If there was one thing Drake liked about the Dragon Lord system, it always brought him quests, depending on Drake's current situation. It forced him to kill monsters on his way to his required destination the last time. This time, he was on a guild-issued mission to kill goblins. However, the Dragon Lord system adjusted and assigned the task accordingly.

[Quest's description: Kill 45 goblins and burn their hearts.]

[Quest reward: 450 reward points and a peek into Dark Dragon's past.]

"Peek into the past?" Drake stopped walking and said aloud as he examined the description. He couldn't understand why Dark Dragon's past should matter to him. But then he realized that his abilities were derived from his previous incarnation and that learning more about his past self would benefit him.

"Ah, alright then." Drake shrugged his shoulders as he started to walk again. While he was walking along, he also checked his status.

"I see," Drake muttered. "I guess I leveled up without even knowing it," he said in awe. But that only increased his skills by a few percent. Dragon speed improved by 5%, healing ability by 10%, and dragon agility improved by 10%. However, this improvement does not matter much. Even his level 1 power had completely overpowered B-rankers or even A-rankers.

[Hidden Quest]

[* Kill a goblin lord(no survivors)

* Quest rewards: 300 reward points, level up, gift box.]

"Gift box, huh?" Drake smiled. He gained quite a weapon from a gift box last time, so his expectations were relatively high this time.

Drake turned on the map function in the System and searched for the closest goblin's nest. Once he found the location, he headed towards it with swift steps.

His movements were silent as if he was trying not to make any noise. Drake knew that the goblin lord was a brilliant and cowardly monster, and if Drake simply barged in, the creature would simply run away. So he decided to stealthily assassinate him before starting to kill the rest of the goblins.

The place where goblins were most commonly seen is close to a river, and its surroundings are full of shrubbery and trees. This provided good cover for Drake. If anyone saw him, they may think he was merely a tree.

It took a moment before Drake reached the goblin nest. After making sure no goblins were around, he stealthily made his way inside the nest and started searching for the goblin lord.

After looking around a bit more, Drake concluded that the goblin lord was the skinny one with decently looking clothing, unlike the other goblins.

He approached the goblin lord and sneaked behind him. Drake then used his heaven slayer, a form of a sword, to strike at the goblin lord. He watched closely as the goblin fell down lifelessly.

"Nice kill," Drake whispered and grinned. He looked at the chest of the dead goblin lord; it had 50 pieces of gold coins and a bunch of silver coins.

"Holy..." Drake's jaw dropped at seeing a low-level creature carrying so much gold. "I am so glad I took this quest," he muttered, feeling ecstatic. He stuffed valuables into the storage bag.

After he finished stuffing valuables, he cut off Goblin Lord's tongue. The process was quick but still made Drake frown in disgust. As soon as he finished cutting off the goblin lord's tongue, he tossed it into his second storage bag, as he bought two just in case. One for gold and food, another was for quests like this.

[Hidden Quest complete. Do you wish to claim your reward?] the System chirped up.

Drake paused to think about it. Gift boxes glowed and would have spoiled his disguise. But on the other hand, he was on the battlefield, and if he gained a weapon or something like that, he had a chance to test it out at this very moment.

"Yes."

The same as before, his head began to feel a little lightheaded, and he saw that a small cube was inside a levitating bubble that was visible in front of him. Drake extended his hand to grab it, and when he did, the bubble and the wooziness vanished.

"Well, this is interesting." he said as the cube suddenly turned into the book "Dark Healer's Legacy." With a flick of his wrist, he opened the book.

Then, Drake remembered the first day he touched the book in the forbidden library and passed out. This time, Drake intended to drop it if he felt uncomfortable. However, the book disappeared from his hands, and a new notification appeared.
