After picking up his adventurer's ID card, Drake said his goodbyes to Greg and Sarah and left the city after buying some supplies for the rest of his money. Then Drake headed north on a path leading towards the area Medjid had mentioned. It wasn't long before the path led him into the forest.
*Ping*
Suddenly he heard a notification sound inside his head which startled him a little. Then he remembered that he had a Dragon Lord system. "Oh yeah, I completely forgot about the system."
[New quest available: The hunt.]
"Oh? At a time like this?" Drake frowned, confused. He wondered why they would system give him the quest when he was already busy with a mission from the guild.
[QUEST IN PROCESS: First blood
Quest description: Kill all the monsters you will encounter on your path toward your destination.
Reward: Reward will depend on the quantity and quality of monsters you will kill.]
"Okay... Sounds reasonable." Drake shrugged and proceeded to walk the path into the forest.
He had been walking for a while without encountering a single monster until suddenly he noticed movement ahead of him. He walked out of the path and leaned behind the tree, observing the surroundings. Two humanoid green creatures resembled goblins from the video games.
The two of them were dirty, only wearing a cloth to cover their crotches, and had a rusty knife for weapons. They seemed hungry and were sniffing around for food while moving along the path. Suddenly, their noses focused on Drake. They immediately rushed towards him as one of them lifted its weapon.
"Oh? Their sense of smell is superb!" Drake praised the goblins and jumped from behind the tree back on the path. Both goblins rushed to attack him and were preparing to stab him.
Drake dodged to the left and pulled out the handle of a bladeless Heaven Slayer from his pocket. The dagger can change its form according to its wielder's wishes. "Let's see what you can do, Heaven Slayer." He raised Heaven Slayer above his head, and it transformed into a spear.
One goblin slashed with the blade, and the other attack with the knife. However, Drake avoided both attacks effortlessly. As soon as one got too close to the spear, though, Drake penetrated its stomach with his spear right between the ribs.
The goblin squealed weakly before falling to the ground and dying.
"Not bad!" Drake exclaimed excitedly as he admired the new spear in his hands while the first goblin collapsed on the ground, dead. "Now, for the other one."
The second Goblin continued to advance toward him, but Drake used Heaven Slayer to deflect its knife's slash. He then stabbed Heaven Slayer into its neck, and the goblin died. Heaven Slayer turned into a handle bladeless again. However, he decided not to put it into the pocket and keep it in his hand. There were monsters smart enough to make an ambush.
[Qest in proccess: The hunt.
Progress: Two low-level goblins]
Drake smiled after seeing the notification. He stepped over the goblin he had just killed and continued walking the path.
As he walked further into the forest, he began to notice the presence of other monsters as well. Although there were few, the number of monsters increased dramatically. "I should avoid those creatures, for now, the money..." he paused the thought. "... No. The bandits are my top priority."
At that moment, his thoughts changed when he came across another group of goblins dressed in rags and holding rusty short swords. Five in total. These goblins were more giant in size and height than the ones he had fought earlier. Like the previous ones, these goblins quickly noticed the human smell and started squealing and releasing weird sounds at him. They ran forward and prepared to attack him. However, Drake held Heaven Slayer's handle tightly and was waiting patiently. He wanted to test something out, as he knew he wouldn't have a chance to give it a try against stronger enemies.
When the first goblin got close, Drake slashed the creature with Heaven Slayer, which turned into a katana right at the moment when in Drake's imagination, it should make contact with Goblin's neck. But instead, the katana hit the shoulder of that goblin, causing it to fall to the ground and cry painfully.
"Tsk." Drake clicked his tongue as he dodged the second and third goblins about to attack him again. He waited for the fourth goblin to approach him before changing Heaven Slayer into a spear and thrusting it into the goblin's torso. However, before the tip of the spear reached the goblin's heart, another goblin bit his ankle. Drake felt pain shoot through his ankle like electricity, causing him to stumble forward.
Before he could catch himself, a rock flew behind him and slammed hard on his head. When Drake recovered from his daze, he saw several rocks flying at him. He looked back and noticed that three goblins, still unchanged, decided to avoid close combat and throw rocks at him.
"These creatures are getting desperate!" Drake's hand burst into flames, and he threw a gigantic flame ball at them, which engulfed them. Soon the fire spread throughout the whole clearing. This did not take very long, for the flames consumed the bodies in just a matter of minutes, including the three that were trying to hide behind trees and were severely burned by the fire. The flame started to spread to the trees, but Drake snapped his fingers, and the fire disappeared immediately.
[Quest in the process: The hunt.
Progress: Seven low-level monsters.]
"I lost my patience..." Drake sighed in disappointment because he wanted to practice close combat instead of using dragon's fire to burn the creatures down. "Tsk."
He regretted burning the creatures even more after noticing the smell of burnt goblins. He started to walk away as fast as he could because burnt goblins' corpses smelled so sour and disgusting, almost making him gag. When Drake got far enough, he took out the storage bag containing various food and a dozen flasks of water.
He took out jerky meat and ate it slowly. After finishing, he drank water to quench his thirst and continued the journey.
