Chereads / returning with a [SSS-grade] talent / Chapter 11 - second phase

Chapter 11 - second phase

When Oliver got teleported, he found himself in a big open field with a lot of people around him, all with anxious and curious looks on their faces. That confusion didn't last for long, the various adventurers' groups, guilds and governments started to shout with voice amplifying skills to form their groups before moving on.

"All members of the Tiger guild assemble around me!!!"

"Phoenix guild members come to me!!!"

"Members of the Rucksack Rebels adventurers' teams, over here!!!"

It was quite amusing to see the professional guilds and governments so out of character, they looked just like a boy scout camp group.

It was also quite annoying to hear all the voice amplifying skills clash with each other.

On the other side of the spectrum, you had a lot of people who were talking about the rewards they got for completing the first phase, most were disappointed, but what could they expect in the first place, most humanity only did a couple of dungeons and some even none at all.

"Hahaha, I got my talent upgraded to [A-grade], this is amazing!!"

"Damn, why does he have all the luck, I only got an [E-grade] skill!!"

"Shut up man, you didn't even do any dungeons, that guy was on a regular [B-grade] dungeon clear squad from the government, be happy you got anything at all."

Those who had not killed a single monster over the past 2 months could only pity themselves, it's going to get hard for them to survive in phase 2, much less the main game, if they don't improve themselves.

After all, in this world the strong get stronger and the weak get weaker, not taking the previous phase to improve is one of the biggest blunders one could make.

In the middle of this noise a little twinkle appeared in the sky, there were a lot of people on that field, approximately 4 billion, but the second that white twinkle appeared around 30 meters above the ground everyone fell silent, not because of the appearance of the twinkle but because they simply couldn't make noise anymore.

After everything quieted down, a little fairy appeared in the place of the twinkle, this was in fact our administrator.

The fairy race isn't exactly the best choice to have as administrator because of their talkative nature, but who can say no to some free information.

After looking around for some time and inspecting everyone, she started to talk.

"Hello everyone, I can see you are all very excited about the second phase of the tutorial, so I'll explain how this is going to go. The main theme of the second phase is a large-scale battle, you against the inhabitants of another planet, who just like you completed the first stage of the tutorial not too long ago."

Even though nobody could talk, you could still see the dread on their faces, most of them had never even had the courage to face a monster much less kill a human being.

Even the ones that had killed a lot of monsters weren't comfortable with the idea of killing other sentient life forms.

"I can see that maybe killing others like you wouldn't sit right, but well I frankly don't care, and there is an incentive for this killing other than winning, if you kill someone of the opposite faction you get all their loot and EXP they have collected."

"O yea one last thing, there are 3 ways to win this was, the first is to totally decimate the enemy, the second is to kill the king of the other side, the king is the highest scoring player in the first phase, and the third is to make the enemy surrender, this happens when the top 5 scoring players in the first phase all surrender. Do all of this 5 times, and you have the right to enter the main game."

"Got all of that? Well, if you don't, that's too bad, see you guys later."

With the fairy disappearing, everyone's voices started to come back slowly as well.

And as you could predict, the chaos soon erupted.

"What the hell, how am I supposed to fight another human being!!!"

"I only have an [E-grade] skill, how is this even possible!!"

While some were just shouting and sitting in their distress, most were traveling towards the long wooden wall in the distends, also known as the earth base camp.

When entering the base camp they could see some sort of village, but still relatively primitive, everything was still made out of wood and some stone. Shops and homes lined the dirt street as far as the eye could see and pretty far beyond that, that could be expected, it has to accommodate 4 billion people.

All the head roads of the camp lead to 1 location in the middle, which unlike the other buildings in the city was quite modern, on that building hang a big sign with the word shop on it.

When everyone's amazement at the humongous village dwindled, they all realized that there has to be a couple of opportunities in this camp, and they went out to find them.

Oliver was also one of these people, but unlike the other ones he knew exactly where he was going, the magic association.

The hidden reward was for the first person to complete a test related to controlling mana, the prize was nothing that he could use right now, but rather a coupon, a coupon that lets you go into any branch of the magic association and let them help you create a mana body. Now what a mana body was or what it did, Oliver had no idea, the only thing he knew is that you could construct one the moment you turned [tier 1] and that it was a requirement for you to construct one if you wanted to get upgraded to [tier 2].

Oliver hoped that he could get some more information on this mana body when he collected the coupon from the magic association.

When on the way there he came across a lot of players who treated the inhabitants of the camp as NPC's, by for example asking them if they could help and so forth, just the most basic lines trying to get a quest out of them. This approach rarely worked, most of the time the resident just felt creeped out by the way the player was talking to them.

The thing is, is that the inhabitants actually do give quests, to for example collect some wood, hunt some deer, or even to explore nearby dungeons, but you have to talk and interact with them like they are real life humans, not like they are some robots.

When Oliver arrived, he immediately felt like this place didn't represent the idea he had of a magic-based organization. He had expected something like the laboratories on earth, but this was more like an adventurer's guild, the place was practically a bar with a couple of counters.

Oliver had no experience with the magic association, he was a warrior in his previous life after all. His time was way better spend in the many soldier training camps where one could go to train in physical fitness to gain some stat points and take up quests from the army.

Although he was perplexed, Oliver made his way to the counter that said 'magic manipulation test' above it. When he came closer, he could see the big line of people already lined up in front of the glowing crystal ball with which the test is conducted.

After doing a quick scan over everyone with the eyes of truth, he concluded that no one of them could complete the hidden mission. The guy who completed this hidden mission in Oliver's previous life had 65 magic affinity and told everyone that he barely made it, while the person with the highest magic affinity in the que at the moment only had 37, not even close to enough, so Oliver wasn't worried.

When stepping in the que Oliver noticed that there were a lot of eyes on him, but he couldn't be too surprised, after all he was the most famous man on earth, in the big crowd from earlier combined with the chaos he wasn't that noticeable, but now in a que of around 20 people he stood out like sore thumb.

Even though everyone noticed him, nobody did anything, they were too focused on getting the opportunities in this city before anyone else.

As the que grew shorter and shorter, the only thing that came out of it were some disappointed faces, it was always the same.

The person in the front of the line would lay their hands on the crystal ball and close their eyes, for the next few minutes they would frown and sweat the hole time, eventually lifting their hands off the ball, and snapping out of their trans while grasping for air.

After around 1 hour of waiting, it was finally Oliver's turn.

"Please put your hands on the crystal ball and try to complete the puzzle inside."

Although the clerk told him that Oliver had no intention on testing his skills on this children's toy.

"Excuse me, but this testing device is inadequate for my level of skill, could you bring out the advanced one?"

The clerk looked a little puzzled when I said this, but it couldn't be helped, Oliver looked just like some cocky young man, but the normal device can only measure up to 100 which is not sufficient in the slightest. While the advanced could measure up to 500. Oliver hoped he could get a better reward if he completed it with a better score.

"Sure, but that will cost 10,000 coins."

"No problem, bring it over."
