"What happened? Why isn't anyone in here?" Ethan mumbled still with his eyes darting into the warehouse, hoping that someone who had asked for help all this time could get out of there.
But nothing, Ethan didn't find anyone even though minutes had passed.
"I'm not dreaming, am I? I did hear that voice, and it's usually always like this too. But why doesn't it exist now? Did I hear wrong and the wrong place to look?"
The man was very confused now. For over a month following the voices coming from inside his head, Ethan usually managed to find the people who asked for help and then Ethan would help them while he could.
It was very rare that he couldn't find it usually the voice sounded far away and Ethan couldn't help because he would have to travel a long way. Ethan only allowed if the voice sounded close, but not all the help was successful because some failed.
No human is perfect, and neither is Ethan. Even though he already has an ability that few others have, Ethan can't continue to succeed in helping everyone whose voice pops up inside Ethan's head.
One day, Ethan heard the voice of a middle-aged woman groaning in his head, her voice already sounding tired, like she had just walked a great distance. Because her voice sounded close, Ethan took the initiative to approach her and see first what really happened.
After getting close to the voice owner, Ethan found a grandmother who had difficulty crossing the road because her legs were already in a lot of pain from walking too far. Ethan approached her because he felt pretty sorry. After all, Ethan already knew that Grandma's voice appeared in his head.
When a voice appears, Ethan only has to look for the owner of the voice. However, usually Ethan didn't need to test one by one between them to match the voice because sometimes Ethan already knew who the voice belonged to.
He don't know, maybe it's just an instinct? Or was it a coincidence that Ethan found out? To be honest, Ethan didn't know for sure, but what was clear was that sudden knowledge could help him determine who the voice owner was.
"Grandma, is there anything I can help you with? It looks like you need some help. That's why I approached you." At that time, Ethan spoke to Grandma gently, trying to steal her trust so that Grandma wouldn't think strange things about him.
But, Ethan was handsome and his stature also looked like a good kid, especially when he was on his way to the hospital, so his clothes also looked very neat. It was easy for him to get Grandma's attention for a few moments.
"I want to cross the street, son. However, my legs hurt too much to move because I had walked too far. I thought to rest here first, but I'm pressed by time, I have to go home soon," explained the grandmother at that time.
"If I may, I would like to offer you a ride. I'll take you home in my car, so you don't have to walk anymore. You have to sit there, and I will deliver it to your front door. You can also get there sooner, how about Grandma?"
As someone who had barely known each other, the invitation sounded quite suspicious, given the high crime rate at the time. But, because Ethan's figure looked so good in Grandma's eyes and for some reason, Grandma finally agreed to Ethan's invitation and wanted to be brought by the young man.
A thing that shouldn't have happened because they had just known each other, Ethan could have been the wrong person. But somehow, Grandma trusted the man so much that there wasn't the slightest suspicion in her head.
Finally, Ethan took the grandmother home, but they didn't know that a few minutes after Ethan managed to get his car from the bus stop, it turned out that a bus had a brake failure and hit the side of the dumbbell.
The man only found out when he finished taking Grandma and returned to the office. He heard the news from his Personal Assistant who knew the information.
Ethan realized that he had just saved Grandma.
His ability has helped him hear the voices of people in danger, something Ethan never thought he would have liked. But, not all of these people he can help save because sometimes Ethan can be too late and can't keep them.
That failure sometimes makes Ethan down because he does not plan to become a hero who can save everyone. This ability didn't come because he wanted to, he only suddenly got it after waking up from a coma after an accident, so even Ethan couldn't expect more from himself. He was doing what he could, but if he couldn't, then maybe it was their destiny that Ethan couldn't change any more.
Some of the events that Ethan had handled did happen unexpectedly like that. Therefore sometimes, when he heard someone's voice, Ethan rushed to visit it as much as possible because he didn't want to see someone die again.
If possible, he was eager to save all those who turned to him for help through a voice from his head.
Then today, Ethan was quite confused because he couldn't find the figure, the voice that appeared in his head for some reason was intangible even though Ethan had tried to come to her voice as usual. The man was already sure that the source of the voice was indeed from this warehouse, but why was there no one in there?
"It seems that lately, I've been overthinking, so I'm hallucinating, maybe there's no sound in my head but it's just my thoughts, right?" Ethan massaged his head that suddenly felt dizzy, he felt confused but didn't know why the sound was bothering him.
"Excuse me, do you have any requisites here?"
Ethan immediately turned to one of the nurses who approached and spoke to him. "Ah ... no, I was just taking a walk," said the man.
"This side is being repaired, and very few people pass through here. Maybe you can go back to the main hospital line so that nothing untoward happens," the nurse reminded him, doing her job. "Then I'll excuse myself."
"Wait a moment!" Ethan held fast, then continued, "May I ask you something?"
"What is it?"
"Is this warehouse no longer in use?" asked Ethan, pointing to the warehouse he had opened earlier.
The female nurse nodded slightly. "As I said earlier, this side of the hospital is under repair, so the warehouse isn't being used. I doubt that anyone would even want to go in there. Did you see anything?"
"No, I was just asking."
"Oke then, I'll excuse myself." The nurse bowed politely and immediately left Ethan alone, who was still busy with his thoughts.
If no one was in there and the warehouse was no longer in use, then what was the sound that Ethan had heard earlier? Was it just his imagination, or was it a reality?
