Chapter 2 - The first day at Lori village SLOTH

The sunlight shined into my eyes. It woke me up. 𝘋𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳. Even with the light, I fell back to sleep. This bed was way more comfy than mine. 𝘐'𝘮 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳.

Last night Martin guided me to his house. It was literally the nearest house to the entrance to Lori village. Cause it was the nearest house, I could see nothing of the rest of the village, but I'm fine with that.

When we finally arrived at Martin's house he said "This is my house, make yourself at home." When we walked into the hall, I could see nothing. But then a nice light appeared. A light that was bright enough to make things visible, but also soft enough for comforting my tired eyes. Martin's hand was connected to a glass vase hanging on the wooden wall. The vase was the source of the light.

"How did you do that?" I asked pointing my gaze at the glowing vase.

"Don't tell me your parents never taught you about magic." He looked surprised when he said that and released the vase.

"Well mom used to heal me when I was hurt, that's magic right?" I didn't tell him I got hurt almost every day and got healed after.

"Yes that's water magic, but there are 6 types of magic you know?" He looked at the vase and said, "I can use fire magic. I use my heat to turn this light on the chosen brightness."

"Wooh, that's so cool! I wanna do that too. Can I? Can I?" It would be so handy to use my hand instead of a match.

"Not everyone can use fire magic, you know?" He sighed, "Fine I'll learn you some things about magic, but it's very late. Go to sleep and I'll learn you something about magic before I bring you home."

"Okay Martin, thanks." I was kinda relieved, cause I was dying for a good night's rest.

Martin led me upstairs. It looked bigger than my house. The second floor had 5 rooms. My house had only three: my room, my dad's, and the bathroom. "This is the guest room. It's all yours for tonight." He opened the door and asked, "Satisfied?"

The room was twice as big as mine. It had a weird mechanism thing hanging on the wall. It was a circle-formed thing with 2 different white and 2 different black colors. In the middle of the circle was an arrow pointing at the middle of the darkest part of the circle. I didn't really care about what it did though. More importantly, was what was on the other side of the room across the weird circle thingy. A bed. Though I shouldn't call it a bed. It was more like THE bed. It was twice as big as mine and it looked like it called for me.

"Yeah, I think this room will do, thanks." I immediately walked to the bed and sat on the side. It wasn't twice, but trice as soft as my bed.

"You may lean a set of pajamas. There is a closet over there," Martin said, pointing at the big closet in the middle of the room. "It has a lot of different shapes, so you will probably find something you will fit."

I walked to the closet and opened it. My mouth sprang open. 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨. I probably had stolen some, if Martin wasn't so nice to me... and if I wasn't so lazy to put the effort into it.

"I'll leave you be then." Martin closed the door behind him and I was alone in this room called heaven.

I tried a set of pajamas. It was so large that my sleeves went over my hands. I didn't want to put more effort into picking clothes, so I just closed the closet and kept this one on. It was super comfy anyway.

"Now it's time to sleep." I walked to my bed and fell on the soft mattress. I fell asleep before I could even think about anything else.

I woke up a second time. I woke up from my rumbling stomach. I never yawned so loud in my life. It was the best sleeping experience I ever had. It took me 15 minutes to get out of this holy bed. The arrow was pointing to the darker white part. I kept on my pajama clothing and walked downstairs.

Noises were coming from the room on my left. I walked in that direction and ended up in the large kitchen, of course also larger than mine. There was a table in the middle which could be used for 6 people. I looked at the source of the sound and saw Martin baking eggs. He was holding a spatula in his right hand. The pan with the egg rested on his left-hand palm.

I was just about to sit on one of the chairs until I realized something. 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘭𝘮?! 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘨𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨?! "Aren't you burning your hand like that?"

"Oh, you're awake just in time." Martin hadn't noticed me walking into the kitchen, cause he was too focused on the egg. Martin broke the egg into smaller pieces with the spatula and answered the question, "Fire users can touch their own fire and are invulnerable to the heat. I can also absorb my own fire. Like this, I can cool the pan almost instantly and I can soften the fire lamps."

"That's really cool, I gotta learn that," I said. Without noticing I already sat in the chair.

Martin shoved the egg pieces into a cut-open piece of bread laying on a plate with the spatula. It looked very tasty. On the plate next to that piece of bread was another piece of bread with small egg pieces. Martin took both of the plates and laid them on the table one in front of me and one across my seat. Martin took place on that seat. "Slept well?" he asked while eating his food.

"Better than ever before," I replied.

"Is this your first time eating scrambled eggs?" he added.

"Yeah, never seen them in my life." I took a bite. It tasted really good.

"Do you live far from here?" Martin asked as well.

"..." I stared at my food.

"You really don't have any clue?" Martin guessed.

"I... I'm parentless." My dad's soul left its body a day before and my mom disappeared a year ago.

"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that." Martin also stared at his food. "You don't have to talk about it. Just finish your food and I'll teach you a bit about magic." He continued eating and so did I.

After we both finished our food, I put on some nice clothes which were a bit too large as well, but the blue jacket matched my blue hair so I chose this one. Martin took me outside and closed the door. "Some sorts of magic is forbidden in the village, so let's go outside." The entrance was really close so it wasn't much walking, though I would have appreciated a bench to sit on.

Martin began immediately, "First things first. There are 6 sorts of magic, Fire magic is the one I can use. There is also water, air, earth, light, and dark. Most people control only one sort of magic, however, there are exceptions. The chance to control two sorts of magic is about as rare as twins. I knew someone who could use three..." he looked at the ground with a sad look for a second. Then he shook his head and smiled again. "Anyway, you can test your own powers at the hospital. The magic is in your blood and with a simple blood test you know exactly the sorts you can and can't use. Keep in mind to control your emotions, if you don't it can be destructive." Martin placed his hand on the ground and burned plants around him in a small circle. It looked kinda cool. "The amount of magic level decides the power in your magic. I can use fire magic quite well, but I'm not an expert. If someone's water magic level isn't high enough, that person would be unable to quench the plants and it can't be healed while the burning only reduces." Martin was still holding his hands on the floor. The burn effect seemed to disappear. Martin absorbed it so that someone else could heal the plants. "I have work to do, but we can do your test tomorrow. I have a lot of books about magic, however, most are about fire magic."

"Wait... tomorrow." I was expecting to stay at his place for just one night. "Does that mean I can stay?"

"I'm not letting a kid your age wander off on their own. How old are you anyway?" Martin asked. He really is a nice guy.

"I'm 16 years old. how about you?"

"I'm 45 years old. I'll take care of you, at least until you're 18." He smiled at me. This meant I could sleep and eat in heaven even more. "Anyway you probably need some rest, yesterday was a long day. I show you around the house before I go to work." Martin was resting on the grass and stood up. He wiped some dirt off his pants and stretched his arms. We both walked together to Martin's house.

When we arrived Martin showed me all the places in his house: The storage room was filled with lots of cooking ingredients. The guest room had a comfy couch with a small table and a hearth. It gave me a warm feeling. The library was filled with a lot of books. I couldn't read any of the titles, but I noticed a lot of cooking books by the pictures. 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘶𝘩? 𝘕𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘰 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥.

We walked up the stairs and Martin showed me the second floor as well: Martin's room had even a more luxe bed with also a closet and that weird, round mechanism. It was nicely decorated with some drawings that looked like a child drew it, a silver spatula on the wall named: second best cook of the year. 𝘐𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘬? The guest room I'd already seen, so there was nothing new there. "It's your room now," he said. The bathroom had a bathtub and a bucket next to it. At the furthest corner on the left was a door with a wooden balcony behind it. The balcony was connected to the neighbors bathroom door at the far right. In the middle of the large shared balcony, were a pair of stairs leading outside to a toilet room and a water pump to fill up the bathtub or wash your hands. The study was room across the bathroom. It had a fine desk at the right with books laying on it, some of them were cooking books. Some paper with a pen and a bottle of ink rested on the desk as well. At the back of the room was another bookshelf, not as large as the library. And at the left a board with chalks. The board was empty.

The 5th and last room was located at the farthest door. Because located in the middle catched a lot of attention to me. "This room is forbidden. You can't enter it ever. I locked the room so there is no use trying, understood?" Martin looked serious.

"Understood!" There was no use for me anyway. There were probably just some secret recipes laying in that room.

"Any questions?" Martin asked turning his gaze towards me.

"Only one. What kind of work do you do?" I asked thinking about all the cooking stuff.

"I'm one of the best chefs in the whole continent. I make good money with my job." Martin said proudly.

"Wow, that's so cool!" I praised him a little.

"I bring you to the restaurant another day. It's time to go now." Martin said while looking at another circle mechanism thing hanging at the wall behind me. I'll be home late so don't wait up for me. You can pick any kind of food you want to." Martin leaped to his room to change and left after that.

I looked forward to tomorrow and wished for fire magic. I took some bread as dinner, cause I couldn't cook and was too lazy for it anyway. After that, I slept early, but one thing still bothered me: 𝘞𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯, 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯? 𝘋𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘪𝘮? 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘩𝘶𝘨𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥… 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵... 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. I didn't trust myself locked the door and put the key under my bed. 𝘕𝘰𝘸 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘺.
