I woke up with Mathias laying cuddled up to me. It was moving day, which meant moving to a new pack, which was going to be scary. I watched as Mathias stirred in my arms. I placed a hand on his head. "Get up, buddy. It's time to go." Mathias let me carry him to the car. The entire ride he wouldn't get off of me. He eventually fell asleep with his head in my lap.
We arrived at our new house. It was huge. Six bedrooms, three bathrooms, one connected to the master bedroom, a guest bathroom, and one connected to my new bedroom. It took us a while to unpack.
Someone knocked on our door
Andrew opened it. A male who was six foot tall with dark hair and caramel eyes stood at the door. "Hello, my name is Marcus, I'm the packs beta here. I heard you were your pack's top warriors. You came from the Moonbright pack, right?" My father nods. Marcus looks over my father's shoulder to see me, Melanie, and Mathias. He drew his eyes back to Andrew. "The Alpha wants to see all of you, please follow me." We followed the beta.
We were approaching the packhouse, where a few wolves were hanging out. Beta Marcus led the family up to the fourth floor, where the Alpha was working. Beta Marcus went into the Alpha's office and I could hear them talking. The Alpha stepped out, he looked like Marcus only more muscular and had lighter brown hair with blue eyes.
"Hello, my name is Alpha Ryan." We each greeted him one at a time, but when his eyes landed on Mathias, my heartbeat sped up. Alpha looked at me and he narrowed his eyes.
"He's half wolf, half human. His name is Mathias. I found him in the forest when I was on a walk. he's only 5, I couldn't leave him there."
The Alpha smiled at me. "I'm glad you took him with you, that shows you're a kind soul." I was in shock but let out a sigh of relief. Mathias held his arms out, demanding that I picked him up. He almost seemed scared of Ryan and Marcus.
I bounced him on my hip, trying to calm him down. "I think he's hungry, he didn't want to eat yesterday...." Ryan ordered Marcus to go get something to eat for Mathias. Marcus smiled as he walked downstairs to get food. I sat down with Mathias on my lap
My mom and dad were called in there one at a time, and then Alpha Ryan called my name. I gave Mathias to Melanie and stepped inside of Ryan's office. "You have to pledge your loyalty to me."
I didn't understand how that worked or what it meant. "How do I do that?" Ryan showed me a detailed set of instructions and I bowed before him. "I, Jayka Castrove, pledge my loyalty to Ryan Dalton of the Sunlight pack." I felt a sharp pain shoot throughout my body, feeling that I'm apart of the pack now.
I felt someone's arms around my torso, coming to my senses after being struck with that searing pain. It was Alpha Ryan. He let go of me once I was stable on my feet. "Why don't I feel your wolf?" I froze in place. He can't know, not yet, he would banish me if he knew. Ryan stepped towards me. "What's the reason you left your last pack?"
I started to panic, my heartbeat increasing rapidly. "My father lost his job and attacked the person who fired him, then Alpha Andreas got involved and banished us from the pack. That's all that happened, Alpha."
Alpha tilted his head. "Stop lying to me, I can smell the lies."
I gulped, bracing for him to banish me like my last pack did. "I have no wolf."
Alpha sniffed me. I had a wolf, I was just an extremely late bloomer. "You can go now, I enrolled you in school, so you'll be going to school tomorrow morning. You'll have to pick up your schedule from the office."
I stepped out of the office and Mathias was sitting on Beta Marcus's lap. Mathias immediately jumped up and threw himself at my legs when I stepped out of the Alpha's office room.
Marcus laughed. "He sure does love you, I smell a strong bond forming between you and him." Could the bond be making me feel like his mother figure? Possibly. We all headed home. Melanie made dinner and we ate together.
Mathias slept in my bed. He was going to school with me tomorrow because the pack doesn't have him set up at school yet since they didn't know we had him. Plus, Andrew and Melanie are teaching the training course at the high school, since they're the best warriors. I felt Mathias stir beside me. I hoped I didn't wake him up by moving around.
I got up to get a glass of water. The moon shone bright. I could feel something burning inside me, but I ignored it. It was probably just my period coming. I walked back into my bedroom since I went to the bathroom to get the cup of water. I slunk back into bed, and Mathias clung onto me. I eventually fell asleep after a few minutes.
Something was calling out to me frantically in my sleep. I saw a dark figure emerge from thick black fog. "Hello, child. My name is Irene. I am real, I'm the valley goddess of light." Why was this random woman in my dreams? Am I dead? Irene answered my question, almost as if she was reading my mind. "You're not dead, my child. Of course you're not dead, you're a goddess. Goddesses can't die that easily." I was beyond confused. A goddess? But both my parents are wolves. I tried to ask Irene another question, but Irene was nowhere to be found.
