Chapter 1 - Chapter One: Loss

Today is the day I leave my master and finally start on my journey through the world to overcome the Jōgi from the bottom up. I am going to start from the smallest of facilities and work my way up to the top, where he is. The Jōgi will bow down before the people, just like they have made them do for oh so long.

"Boy, what are you doing, get your shit together, you need to head out now so you can find a good place to camp before nightfall Mahō."

Says a man from behind. Turning around not so surprised

"I get it old man, I'm on my way out now, just loosen up, everything will be alright."

Mahō says this as he grabs his bag and begins to run off before seeing a small army of mages flying toward him and his grandpa's house out in the middle of nowhere. Nervously he looks back and gramps and sees his magic begin to grow, for the first time in his life he will actually get to see gramps fight and not hold back like he did against Mahō. To his surprise, he sees his gramps drop his shirt and use physical enhancement magic before they even get there and gramps muscles begin popping out with a bunch of veins. Gramps turned to the forest and Mahō could see he mouthed

"Goodbye my boy."

And used some of the strongest gravity magic he had ever seen and slammed most of the army out of the sky and most likely instantly killed them. Mahō hiding in a bush now in awe of his gramps seems to be in disbelief as to the power he actually has. With only 4 mages left in the air when there had to be at least 20 or 30 before Mahō though his gramps would have no issue finishing the rest of them off within a few minutes. Then Mahō noticed a mage that wasn't dressed like a soldier but in a white robe with blue and green crosses on it, and he knew that meant a noble had actually come all the way out here to kill gramps and this fight might not be over so soon. Seeing this sight, Mahō decided to completely conceal his mana, so there is no trace of him at all.

The mage in the distance says

"That's a nice parlor trick old man, but you know it won't work on a noble like me."

Gramps now seeming quite stressed releases a powerful water spell that summons water tigers to hunt his prey, they hunt the other living mages they aren't the noble and seem to kill them with ease, a fight what had, but gramps didn't even look in their direction he kept his eyes locked on the noble in front of him almost seeming scared that if he looked away he would be killed instantly. Gramps started murmuring to himself, almost seeming like he was saying words to himself to cast a spell. I have never seen gramps say anything to cast, usually if you have a good understanding of the spell you can do it in your head and have no need to say anything. After a long while of gramps murmuring, he looked up at the mage in the white robes and said

"Before I kill you, I'd at least like to know your name."

The mage in the sky laughed hysterically at the idea of him being killed before replying.

"My name. Well my name is Charles, Charles Windsor and those will be the last words you ever hear old man."

Next thing Mahō sees is his grandpa's head laying on the ground next to his motionless body, trying to recall what just happened he thinks the mage apparently named Charles used a wind spell with so much force and precision that it immediately decapitated gramps.

Mahō is frozen in shock laying in the bush concealing himself, in his head he thinks, "If he did that to gramps what chance do I stand, what do I do, how do I get out of here?'' Confused and scared, Mahō realized he was paralyzed from fear and even if he wanted to run, he couldn't. Charles Windsor just killed Mahōs grandpa and then left like nothing happened, like he didn't lose 30 soldiers in the process, and like gramps never even fought him. How strong could one person be, Mahō thought gramps was one of the strongest mages currently alive, but he was killed like a pest, like he was so weak it wasn't even worth the effort. Mahō laid in that bush for what seemed to be an eternity, but actually ended up being about 19 hours.

Mahō get up and wipes off his clothes from the dirt and begins to walk to his grandpa's lifeless body, as he gets there he starts to cry and drops to his knees saying,

"I'm sorry gramps, I was too scared to help. I didn't know what to do. I thought you were going to win, I love you, grandpa."

Mahō Spent the next few hours preparing a grave for his now late grandfather and buried him next to a tree not far from their house. Mahō knew now more than ever that he needed to take on the mission his gramps hoped he would do, and now more than ever he knew he needed to succeed in taking over The Jōgi and making them pay for what they did to his gramps and what they had done to countless other families and all with no remorse for human life.
