August nervously glanced at the bright lights. Previously, Clary had been strangely adamant to take him somewhere. August didn't really want to, but since he had pretty much refused all her invitations to hang out before because he had something up with Edward, he felt a little guilty. Edward was also busy with something when he last replied to his texts so August had some time to kill.
He had assumed they were going to the park or museum like before, so he was really shocked when she led him to a brightly lit bar. He asked hesitantly, "Clarence- Clary, are you sure this is the place?"
Clary nodded. She had to yell to get her words across since they were already inside, "Yes, senior! Everyone's at this party! You need to be here!"
"But I really don't like loud-" His words were cut off as he found the black haired girl no longer by his side.
"...places."
On the other side of the crowd, Clary muttered, "I'm sorry, senior. I know you don't like places like this. But-"
Her phone was on, messages from someone opened on the screen.
"...That trash better keep his promise. I don't want you to get hurt by someone who doesn't even care."
August just wandered around without a sense of direction for a while. Well, not exactly 'wandered'...pushed around by people in the crowd would be more accurate. The loud music was getting to his head, making it ache lightly. The club was strangely well lit, unlike the usual dark theme.
August was just about to turn around and leave when he spotted a familiar figure.
"...Edward?" A person with his back to him stood at a distance, hand around a girl. August shook his head and muttered, "No, how can that be Edward? He said he's busy with family. Why would he be at a party?"
Just as he was about to dismiss it as a misunderstanding, the person turned around.
"It's really Edward?" His face was clear now. The girl on his arm turned around too, her gaze scanning the crowd as if searching for someone.
August began to push through, trying to get to him. He waved his hand to catch Edward's attention. "Edward! Ed-!"
Someone pushed him to get through. The song changed and the music got louder, making it harder for him to get his words across. Edward seemed to look in his direction, but his expression didn't flicker as he turned back, as if he saw nothing out of the ordinary.
August knew it was strange for Edward to be here, but he didn't overthink it. Maybe he's just here to cool off...After all, family stuff can get pretty stressful. As a lover, he shouldn't try to control his life. Just as August was free to come here without telling him, so was Edward.
He was just about to call out to them when Edward suddenly grabbed the girl by the waist, making her sit on his lap.
"Ed-" Words died in his mouth as August watched just what he was doing.
Edward played with her hair, leaning back comfortably like what he was doing was completely normal. He grabbed her face and was just about to kiss her when August finally couldn't take it. He smashed a glass on the floor, attracting everyone's attention.
The music abruptly stopped, shock evident in Edward's gaze. Still, he didn't make the girl leave and even asked, "What?"
"Just..." August was furious as he demanded, "...What are you doing?!"
"-Just what are you even doing!?" He yelled, face flushed in anger.
Edward finally made her get off and stood up. "I used to have female friends, didn't I?"
August glanced around at the gazes hungry for gossip before grabbing Edward's hand. He was trying to hold it in as he said with difficulty, "Let...Let's talk outside."
Edward didn't have a problem with that and allowed himself to be led away by the shorter boy. The party also continued on like before, the people too drunk or busy with themselves to care about anyone else's love life. A certain black haired girl watched on, pained, as tears rolled down August's face.
August stopped in an alley, not unlike the one where it all started. He released Edward's hand and spat out, "Edward...What in the world were you doing there? Didn't you say you were busy with family stuff?" He cried, "This was the family stuff you told me about?!"
"...Calm down. We're just friends," He replied shamelessly.
"You do that with your friends?" August didn't bother yelling anymore, matching Edward's calm tone. "You really expect me to believe that?"
"Well, believe it or not. Your choice. What are you even uselessly getting jealous of?"
"I'm not jealous!" August denied, "It's just...You're mine. I don't want to see you with anyone else."
"I can't even have friends now?"
"-But she doesn't look like a 'friend'," August's heart felt heavy, a sense of foreboding haunting him. His throat felt dry as his eyes watered, making it increasingly hard to not burst into tears. Still, for once, he tried to take a stand for himself , because he knew what he was saying was right. "Don't forget, Edward. We're in a relationship and friendship like that is considered cheating."
Edward's face didn't match his eyes as he muttered in a bored manner, "We're in a relationship? Well, about time we ended it. Let's break up, senior."
