Even though she had permitted him to fight and Laura had assured her that he would be fine, Lara could not help but feel slightly worried about Max's safety.
"Be careful," she said.
Max nodded. "I got this." His aura exploded but of course, no one sensed it as the energy fluctuations were kept to a minimum.
Dan cracked a crooked smile at Max's audacity. "A cripple like you wants to take on thirty magicians?... Do you think we won't turn you into a physical cripple?"
Max scoffed. "Enough talk, come at me." He took an offensive stance.
Dan's eyebrow twitched. "Looking down on me, eh?... Get him, keep him alive for me."
His subordinates nodded as they charged at him. "Kill!"
Max moved forward as well.
Taking a single step, he closed the distance between himself and the closest attacker. Before the latter had a chance to react, he felt a powerful force collide with his torso, taking the air out of his lungs.
With a single move, one had fallen.
The others quickly became cautious as they surrounded him but did not get too close.
Dan's eyebrow twitched once again. "So you've got some skill."
On the side, Lara was left dumbfounded.
That was an Origin magician that Max just took down in one hit. Just how strong had he gotten in the time he was away?
She turned to Laura with the latter merely smiling, almost as though she were already aware that such a thing would happen.
Meanwhile, Max was in the encirclement of 29 magicians, each one ready to pounce but still cautious enough not to attack immediately.
Max smiled. Since they won't come to him, then he would go to them!
He moved to the left, with the others coming from behind to attack him.
Within a few breaths, the fight turned chaotic.
All Max needed was a single well-timed attack to put an Origin magician out of commission.
Dan's eyebrows twitched again and again until almost half of his men were rendered unconscious.
Unable to take it anymore, he yelled. "What the fuck are you guys doing!... he's just a cripple kid!... why is it taking so long to put him down!"
Max chuckled at the unsightly look on Dan's face but this was not enough. For him, he would only be satisfied after he was done serving punishment to the bastard that dared to touch his mother.
"If you think it's so easy, why don't you come at me yourself?... You can show them how it's done." Max mocked. He couldn't feel any joy in beating the small fries when the big fish was just a few meters away.
Dan scowled. "You think you are some sort of big shot for taking down those weaklings?... Fine, I'll do this myself!"
"Heh, okay," Max replied just as he dodged the attack of a barbarian before punching him so hard that his teeth flew out.
Dan quickly weaved hand signs and clasped his palms together. "Come!"
The other barbarians noticed Dan's move thus they quickly gave way with Max standing his ground.
Sensing the life force of Dan, he could already make out that he was in the second stage of magic cultivation, a little bit stronger than Laura.
He wasn't well versed in the complete structure of magic cultivation thus he couldn't make out the reason why that was the case.
Meanwhile, at this point, a green frog leaped into his shoulder. "You run fast."
Max snorted. "More like you move slow."
At that moment, a spatial tunnel appeared behind Dan, it looked a bit bigger than the tunnel his subordinate from earlier had produced to summon his mosquito.
Max took note of this and quickly got hyped.
The tunnel stayed open for a few breaths and then closed… but there was no summon.
Max was puzzled. "What just happened?"
He turned to find Dan grinning but he clearly had not summoned anything… or did he?
Max immediately felt the flow of Ordena change as something cut through it. At the same time, Laura's warning came from behind.
"Careful!... His summon is of the light attribute and its main ability is to refract it!"
Sensing danger, Max quickly moved to get out of the way but due to how quickly it came and the fact that he wasn't exactly sure of its position, something heavy slammed into him.
Max was barely able to react quick enough to put his arms up and block, with the attack sending him a few meters back.
He put his arms down and glared at Dan's stupid face. "Light attribute, huh."
Magical creatures, apart from their realm, were also classified according to attributes.
Attributes referred to the type of magic they wielded while abilities referred to the spells they were capable of casting.
For each realm, some attributes were expected.
Like Niflheim, where their attributes were mostly the four major elements and their variations.
Dan scowled as he saw that Max reacted quick enough to block his surprise attack. "Darn it, why couldn't you just stand still and get crushed like a good little cripple!"
Max did not bother to answer him, instead furrowing his brows to concentrate. "Laura said that it could refract light, that would make it camouflaged from normal eyesight."
Unfortunately, he was unable to sense the summon since it was a magical creature.
Dan spoke up again at that moment. "It doesn't matter. Since the first attack didn't hit, then the second would do so. Who cares if you know what my summon's attribute is?... It still won't save you from the pain coming your way."
Max sighed. "Mom, I'm going to need you guys to step back. Don't worry, I'll handle this bastard and join you shortly."
Lara was hesitant as Dan's summon was one of the reasons her entourage was captured.
Even then, she still chose to believe in her son's capabilities. "Alright then, be careful. Don't push yourself."
Max smirked. "I'm just getting started."
