As I sat the backseat of the car, pondering on how quickly the events in my life played out I shook my head sorrowfully, I was totally heartbroken. The car finally pulled up at a Cemetery, everywhere was well decorated with flowers, it was a rainy day, the car door was opened by a man standing with a black umbrella and with a sad look on his face, he gave me a hand out of the car and walked me into the Cemetery, the outfit every single person wore including me was the same as the color of the umbrella. It was my parents funeral.
The hall was filled with different faces, mostly unknown faces. As I walked to my sit I could hear almost everyone murmuring behind me, someone touched my shoulder, that was Aunt Se-Wa whose eyes looked all worn out and tired of crying , when she saw me she held me tightly in her arms "Oh poor child" she said and tried faking a smile, I felt sorry for her, she lost her only sister. Then the corpse of my parents were marched in on the shoulders of the men, with securities behind them, tears trickled down my face uncontrollably on seeing their corpse. Their corpse were placed in front the, everyone stood up, choir sang the hymn and the Pope came to the podium for prayer of blessings upon their souls. Thereafter, he called the the family of the deceased to come out one after the other to say their last words or prayer it was more like a moment of silence, before they'll be buried. We all went out and I was the last person, I tried gathering words to mutter out but unfortunately I couldn't find the right word to say. " jokes over dad!, I know it's a joke and yeah you got everybody, you can wake up now" I whispered to his dead and lifeless corpse, i smiled at myself fooling around thinking what was happening was all a joke, nothing looked real to me, it all happened too fast. " Mom, Dad I love you both dearly and you'll forever be in my heart, rest perfectly in peace!" I said almost to my self but my eyes was fixed on their casket and I walked back to my seat. The pope closed the ceremony and my parents were lowered into the ground.
Moments later, after receiving lots condolences and pity-pity speech from lots of people I don't know, I was tired and I felt like going home. "Aunt Se-Wa I'm leaving, if I stay here any longer I might get a headache from all the handshakes I've been receiving for half an hour now" I said " but they're still lots of guests here" " you and Uncle Lee can handle it, whereas I....." before I could finish my words I was interrupted by a male voice " Hello there Se-Wa, long time no see"
We turned and saw a middle-aged man and woman holding hands, with security officials behind them. Mr Sang-Yu, I remembered him, he was one of my fathers friends and as long as I can recall they go way back. " Mr Sang-Yu, hello to you too, it's been a long time indeed!" Aunt Se-Wa greeted,
" so good to see you, and we're sorry for your loss those two were such good people" the woman said,
" I really lost a good friend Se-Wa" Mr Sang-Yu said almost sobbing as his wife patted his back " Good day Sir, Good day ma'am " I also greeted, " Hello my dear, how are you" they answered, " I'm quite alright, thank you!" I replied.
"who is she?" the woman asked Aunt Se-Wa " this is their only daughter Ae-Cha" she answered them " oh my!, you've grown to become a beautiful young woman" the woman exclaimed, " I heard you were in the states, how are you doing over there?" she asked " I'm doing well so far ma'am" I answered, as the woman was engaging me in a discussion about the states, school, my career and so on, Mr Sang-Yu called Aunt Se-Wa to a corner so he could have a word with her. While they were talking Aunt's face looked more worried, I wondered what they were talking about. " yes ma,am I also enrolled in a skill acquisition class, after school" " oh that's great, you're really smart, I'm sure you'd do fine in running your father's business as he's gone" she said " actually ma'am that hasn't been decided yet, I actually don't think I want to run a business nor stay in korea" I said " nonsense child! Why would you think like that, do you want your father's legacy and everything he worked hard for to go down the drain?" she said almost scolding me " I said nothing of such ma'am, like I said it hasn't been decided yet we're still mourning my parents, and I don't think the matters of our family's business should affect you" I told her, she gave me a puzzled look and then she smiled " you sound just like your father," she said this in a sarcastic manner " I get that all the time ma'am" I said and smiled back
"okay, we'll be leaving now" Mr Sang-Yu said as he was done talking with Aunt Se-wa " so soon?" I asked " unfortunately we have other things to attend to, and Se-Wa do well not to forget what we talked about" he said smiling at my Aunt, she then thanked them for coming " see you some other time Cha" the woman said, " and you too ma'am" I replied , and they were walked to their car by their securities.
"Aunt what was that?, what was he talking about" I asked because her countenance changed after having a discussion with Mr Sang-Yu, she looked more gloomy,
"what do you mean?" she asked surprised
"immediately they left your sad face looks more worse",
"let's go home Cha, I'm actually starving" she said trying to change the topic,
"what was Mr Yang talking to you about?",
"I think we should have pasta and spicy sauce for dinner, how about that?",
" seriously Aunt!",
"shhhhsshh..... I'm having a headache" she said and I finally gave up, as we walked quietly to her car.
