A summer wind carrying the screams of a new life being brought into this world. "A healthy human boy!" The Elven maid exclaimed in happiness! It had been a long and tough battle that almost had taken the life of both mother and child.
The mother gathering enough strength to hold her newborn child. "Welcome into this world, my sweet little Sam." So goes the short introduction of how Samuel Fayt was brought into this world, child of two simple farmers. Living on the Southeastern coast in the Rejuan Republic, far away from the troubles of the world. In the calm simple village 'Greenhild' a village filled with farmers.
Surrounded by farmlands, hills & forest. It was a backwater village, that rarely saw visitors of any kind. Samuel's mother Elen Fayt spent most of her days cleaning and cooking food and taking care of the few farm animals they had. Sam's Father Bharan Fayt took care of most of the heavy things, ploughing, heavy lifting and often getting yelled at for being such a disgrace of a farmer for his continued bad handling of farm animals. It wasn't one of his proudest achievements, but something about his wife being more fierce like a beast and earning the animals respect made him look pale in comparison sometimes.
It was never hard to tell which one was the tough one although she might not have been as strong physically as her husband was. Together they made a happy living, even the roughest of winters were no problem. The land was plentiful enough, hence why the Rejuan Republic as a whole could thrive so well. There was almost always a good amount of food.
Although for a child none of these things mattered anyway, Sam spent most of his childhood days dreaming himself away or playing with other village children. A normal life for a farmers son. The only oddity about their family was the fact that - they had a last name. A very unusual thing for farmers.
A last name was often times something bought or granted to a lesser family when they were becoming richer or became famous for helping the community on a large scale in one way or the other. (Those times it was always gifted by officials of the Republic)
Merchants and Artisans were a different thing as they were usualy rich enough to buy such a thing as a last name, but for a farmer it was a weird thing indeed. Many times little Sam asked his parents why they had a last name when so many of his friends did not & all he ever received for an answer was that they would tell him when he was older.
Like all children that didnt satisfy him and he often nagged about it until he got to an age where he finally stopped.
There was not enough money to send him off to the village school either, but he was instead home schooled by his own mother, learning him how to count, read & write and then spending the remainder of the free time helping around the farm for all the time lost where Elen was busy teaching him.
The family often struggled with any spare money, although food was at least never a concern. But Samuel's parents did their best at showering their sole child with as much love as they could and small gifts for his birthdays. Time passed quickly, and by the age of twelve Samuel had started exploring the woods more and more, to the dismay of his parents who continued to tell him how dangerous it was.
Yet the boy didnt have a care in the world dreaming all about the outside world of being a hero and fighting villains. Playing the role of hero and defeating evil tree branches and plants.
Coming back home after he had forgotten the time spent to an angry mother was hardly worth it though.
"And where have you been for so long young man?" Elen asked in clear annoyance. Making Sam look down to the floor in shame. "Im sorry mother." He quietly said, trying to add "I lost track of time." He quickly tried to add. Receiving only raised eyebrows of annoyance.
"Always running about, fighting invisible monsters. You need to take better care! You know the forest could be dangerous." Elen ranted on like a mother who truly cared for her son. But alas at that age such wisdom was always more like a scolding.
"Just because you've had luck so far not getting hurt in the forest does not mean It not to be dangerous!" Elen quickly added before embracing her son to check on him to see that he was unharmed and fine, holding his face with her hands. "My little blue star." She whispered and gave him love pecks on every side of his head while calling him by his little monicker.
Sam tried to dodge the love pecks, whimpering "Eww moooom!!!" Receiving only a tight hug and a chuckle. "Oh too old for hugs and kisses are we now?!" Elen smiled ever so brightly.
Her smile extending to her chestnut brown eyes, while her long brown hair tickled the boy who smiled.
While Bharan stepped through the door of their little home. His usual blonde brown hair looking muddy and his usual well groomed self was also all dirty. His blue eyes turned to meet his wifes confused gaze. "The goats again." He silently said with a understanding nod from his wife as she let go of her son to go give the goats a piece of her mind.
Meanwhile Bharan went to clean himself up. Sam decided to step outside and sit down on the houses small porch where two simple chairs were stood with a table. Their house did not amount to much. A kitchen, two bedrooms & an indoor storage.
The family farm was way larger, with a small barn and henges for the farm animals and then the cultivated farm lands where they grew wheat and barley.
As Sam sat on one of the chairs for a while he could see all the way down from the small hill the house sat on top - to the dirt roads leading towards the village one way and other farmsteads the other way. He could see his mother close to the henge leading the goats back inside the barn as well as the unusual visitor who was approaching his mother.
He looked like a merchant and stopped at the outskirts of the farm and started talking about something with Elen, Sam was too far away to hear anything and wanted to go closer but after just a few moments of chatting they bid farwell to eachother. The only thing Sam had seen aside from the strangers clothes was his brown hair.
"Who was that mom?" He quickly met his mother Elen halfway and asked with his curiosity piqued, never before had merchants come directly to their home as far as he knew.
"Just a stranger who was lost!" His mother quickly replied with her usual smile.
Alas the years didnt stop coming, Samuel was now sixteen years old. Soon to become a man at his next birthday. He had grown up safely in his backwater home. That he had planned for a long time to leave, still dreaming of the big wide world to explore and all the people he wanted to meet. The only odd one out in his village was the Elven healer, Aesfelh she was an old elf that spent her life in peace and quiet and healing whatever ails and wounds any villager wanted gone. (For a reasonable sum of course)
Samuel looked almost like an adult at this point. Standing at 1.72 CM and broad shoulders and well fit body from all the farmwork he helped his parents with. Chestnut brown hair like his mother, with bluegreen eyes. He was a bit of a looker for a farmboy in a backwater village, but to the dismay of many village maidens he was a bit dense and always dreaming himself away from his village.
Which unfortunately made him lose a lot of his inherited natural charm.
It was about a week after his 16th birthday that tragedy struck, he came back from one of his faraway forest walks to red and smoke, he started running faster and faster to get home quick. Late home like always, all the farm animals either lay dead or had ran away. His fathers mangled corpse lay in the doorway & his dear mother lay defiled inside the bedroom.
Unbeknownst to many that thought the backwater villages that were rarely visited and lay in peace in the middle of nowhere, were actually some of the most unsafe places.
The Dark Cults of Rorkad loved to target them more than any other. Safe away for no unwanted interferance from authorities, and plenty of people no one would miss. They always took half prisoner as sacrifices or experiments for whatever the Dark cults needed & killed the other half.
Staging it so it would look like a tribe of monsters had attacked and pillaged to remove any fast involvement. It was a game they had played for many many years. So it wasnt unusual to kill and plunder and take what they needed.
Samuel could only sit down in shock unable to speak or move. So when the dark robed man walked inside all he had to do was plunge a dagger right into the young mans heart.
Samuel looked up finding nothing but empty hatred, as he fell backwards lying on the floor as his heart slowly stopped entirely, and all life left him. Letting the cold darkness take him.
Chains of hatred tethered him in the cold dark trying to understand, but met only cold dead silence as his life left his body.
