Chereads / The Prospectors Quest / Chapter 30 - Episode Thirty

Chapter 30 - Episode Thirty

You never know what life may throw at you, so never just stick to one plan. Just be ready for a world of opportunities.

Wang Guang had Sue-May tell Kai everything, after they demanded the Li family to release him. He was extremely stunned, but who in their right minds wouldn't. He had already known that he was adopted, thanks to May who spilled the beans because she thought that it would hurt him. Which it did for a few days, but with strong confirmation from both his parents, he was back to his usual self. But never in his wildest of dreams would thought that he was an offspring of cultivating parents, especially the legendary master of the Prospectors.

He also marked himself as not being crazy, because of the strange things that had been happening to him. And that is why he could see the auras around the Prospectors that day. He had mentioned it to Qing yuan, and he asked Kai if he had told anyone else, and he said no. He even mentioned the dream that he had to Qing yuan, but he said that it meant nothing. But Kai wasn't convinced, with the look that Qing yuan gave him at the beginning and also his quick departure to his dad afterwards.

Kai is now back at the palace, after going home with his family for two days for so much needed family time before he leaves for the Winter Sect kingdom for Cultivation school.

He will be attending the school under the seal of the Dragon, with the other young Drogan disciples. Even though he was originally born as a Phenix.

"Oh, my baby boy. Off to Prospector school, I always knew this day would come." Sue-May cried with joy, as she caressed Kai's right cheek.

"And the day you also dread the most." Wang Guang chimed in, which earned him a playful hit on the shoulder from his wife. But with a beaming smile, he turned his attention back to Kai, and smooth out the sleeve of his prospecting uniform. Which consists of a white hanfu, with a red dragon with his wings outstretched on his life sleeve to signify the place he is from, and on the other sleeve would have his spirit animal. But since none of the Prospectors who had seen Kai hasn't seen his aura yet, his right sleeve has been left empty until his powers have fully manifested. He also has on a white pants and shirt underneath, with white boots with black soles, and a white belt with two white jades hanging from it in the shape of the Prospector's symbol. Usually untamed hair is now combed neatly, with the top in a high ponytail, wrapped with a white ribbon. Which hangs loose at the end, and flows down in the rest of the hair that is let loose.

"I am so proud of you Kai, and I know that my brother is watching over you with a proud smile as well."

Kai smiles up at Wang Guang, and attacks him in a tight hug. "I am going to miss you father." He muttered, a few tears escaping his eyes and soaking a patch of Guang's clothing. Causing Guang to gently push him away from him, and hold his shoulders firmly.

"What is happening here? Are you crying Kai?" He asked sternly, but you could hear a bit of humour in his voice.

"No." Kai sniffed and looked away.

"You are. What have I always taught you and Zhang?"

Kai sniffed, but still didn't look at his father. "That Wang men don't cry."

"With more conviction." Guang sounded like a drill General.

Kai dry his face of all tears, straightens his back and looks his father in the eye. "You taught us that Wang men don't cry!" Kai shouted, which attracted a few stares. And some even laugh, making Kai cheeks burned with embarrassment.

"Ah son, don't mind them. You have to be strong, and let all the negativity people throw at you just roll off your back." Wang Guang hugged him again, this time. He is the one shedding a couple tears. "I am going to miss you son."

"You too, father." Kai mumbled back.

"Five minutes before departure!" Li Jie shouted. He is the head of the Drogan's disciples this year, and he will be accompanying them to the Winter Sect kingdom.

Kai is a little uncomfortable being around him, but Qing yuan assured him that once he reached the school and settled in, he would hardly see Li Jie. Which made Kai feel a bit better, but he was somehow guilty that he went along with Li Jen's plan. But on the other hand, his dad told him to look at it as a blessing. He might have discovered who he truly is in a more deadly manner, or he might have never found out to begin with.

"Well my boy, you better go and say your goodbyes to your mother and brother. I will go have a talk with that prince. Between me and you, he scares me sometimes." Wang Guang said, which made Kai laugh and agreed with him.

Zhang walked over to where his mother and brother were standing. He had just had a heated argument with his sister. She was being irrational as always, and Zhang had finally told her off. He had never had a problem with Kai, the only thing that annoyed him. Was when Kai would do things that he shouldn't. But which boy hadn't done those things. Apart from those traits of his, he was, and still is, the perfect little brother. But May, she is a whole different story. When their parents brought Kai home, May had taken a dislike to him. First, he had thought that it was because she was the baby of the family, and now there was a new addition. But as she grew older, it got worse. She was the one who even told Kai that he was adopted. And in the manner that she did it, it was low and uncalled for. Now, she is there. Talking backlash against Kai, and saying that when the queen had shot him with the arrow, he shouldn't have come back. He had pleaded with her to at least come and say goodbye to him, but she refused. Saying that she has better things to do, and a good husband to find. Zhang was confused at first, wondering what could be more important than family. Then he saw her running after a man. Zhang had seen the same man hiding in the shadows when they had Kai chained up, and even when he saw him a few minutes ago. He looked like he was up to something.

Anyway, he is approaching his mother and brother. When he heard them talking, he stopped to give them privacy. But still catch what they are saying.

"Be safe alright Kai." Sue-May took both of her son's hands in hers. "I always knew you would grow into a wonderful young man, and I always knew that I would have to let you go and fly. But I didn't know it would be so soon." Tears started to fall from her eyes.

"Mother, what are you talking about. You are not letting me go, I am Justin to school. I will be back by the end of two months to give you and father all the trouble in the world." Kai chuckled to lighten the mood, but so depressed inside. He had been away from his family for weeks, and now, he has to leave them again.

"And then, you will be gone again." Sue-May sobbed.

"But I will always come back. What would you, father and Zhang do without me? Even May, even though she doesn't like me."

Zhang's face fell when he heard Kai mention their sister, and she did not like him.

"I will never forget where I am coming from." Kai finished, hugging his mother as tight as he could without hurting her.

"You are such a gentleman, I wish your m…mother was her to see how you have grown into a charming young man." Sue-May awkwardly said. The word mother left her feeling uncomfortable and sad. She has always been Kai's mother, and now that Kai knows that his biological mother was this all powerful Mage. Maybe he doesn't find Sue-May fitting to be his mother anymore, and that saddens her heart.

"Don't worry about it. She is already here to see me, infact. She is the one that taught me to be this charming." Kai pulls half way out of the hug to smile up cutely at Sue-May, which causes Sue-May to smile. Relief that Kai still saw her as his mother. "That title belongs to you, and nobody can ever take it away from you. You will always be my mother." He pulled back into the hug.

Zhang smiled, and when he and Kai made eye contact. He smiled even brightly, and gave him a thumbs up. That is what he loves about Kai, he is always faithful.

"Look at it this way. Our mother-son relationship is like a bond, you even gave me your last name for my first."

Sue-May's smile flutters, and her lips turn into a frown. That was one secret she wanted to keep from him, even after they told him everything. But she had thought it would just be a minor dent in the truth, if she kept it from him. She had even told her part of the family to not mention it when either they came to visit or Kai went to visit them. But here she is now, stuck in-between ruining her son's good mood, and him being mad at her as he goes away.

"Kai?" She called his name softly, and in return, Kai snuggled deeper into the hug.

"Hmm?"

"There is something important that I have to tell you."

"What is it?" Kai asks, sounding a bit worried.

Sue-May loosened her embrace off Kai, and looked him deep in the eyes. Her expression is one of sorrow. "Kai isn't my maiden name, it's Lin."

"S-so, where did my name come from? From when I was little, you always told me that you wanted me to have something of yours. You knew that my family name was Wang, so here am I thinking now that it's ok. No matter who my biological parents are, I still got tied to my parents that grew me. But it turns out, I have nothing of yours. Just empty words." Kai said, his voice getting more upset with each passing word.

"Kai, I am so sorry. But when we brought you home, you couldn't even barely cry because you were so hoarse from crying your little voice box out. No more than a day old, but yet, you had to witness something so terrible. She hadn't had that bond with you, because she had to leave you so soon. And you looked so much like her when you were a baby, but now, you are a splitting image of both. So, like any good hearted mother. I wanted you to have something of her, so I gave you her last name. When you got older, before we told you, you were adopted. You asked me what your name meant, and I couldn't tell you. So I told you that it was my last name. I felt so bad at that moment that I had to lie to you, and I felt so left out that I didn't have anything to contribute to your life. But seeing you so happy, because of just being around me and you calling me mother. Made me so happy as well. So I am sorry Kai. If you want to go and have nothing to do with me, because of all the lies and secrets, it is ok." Sue-May cried, she wanted to pull Kai into a hug. And wife off the tears staining his reddening cheeks. But she is scared of Kai's reaction.

"Time to go!" Li Jie yelled, and the disciples started going through the gates.

"Kai." Sue-May sob.

Zhang sniffed, a few tears fell from his eyes as well. He couldn't let Kai go away without telling their mother that everything is ok, and him bidding him goodbye and that he loves him.

"Kai, wait!" Zhang called out to him, when Kai turned to leave and his mother burst out crying.

Kai turned around, and saw Zhang looking at him. His eyes red from crying, and he stood beside their mother who had fallen on her knees crying.

"Kai, please." He mouths to him. "She didn't mean to like, and deep down. I think you know that, but with all you have been through in the last few days, I can understand that you are upset. But please, don't leave your mother knowing that you have forgiven her. She had shown you more love than she had shown me and May, she had shown you more love than how she showed father. So yes, you might not have her name as she said. But at least you have her love, and you will always have it." Zhang continued to stare at his younger brother. His heart dropped when he saw Kai turned to leave, and he held his head down in sadness. But not too long after, he felt arms wrapped around him.

"I know, and I would never go without telling her that I love her." Kai mumbled into his brother's shoulder. "Mother, I am sorry. And I want to thank you for all the love and support you have given me, and continue to give me." He knelt down and helped his mother up, before hugging both his mother and Zhang.

They felt another pair of arms, wrapped around then. It was Guang who had joined in the group hug.

"Be careful little bro." Zhang muttered into his hair,  before they pulled apart.

Kai waved to his family, as he departed from the palace gate. A big smile on his face, but his heart also felt heavy for leaving them.

"Don't worry, you will get to see them soon." Qing yuan walked up to him and said.

"I know, but this is just going to take a while for me to get used to." Kai hangs his head low.

"And I will be here waiting to help you get used to it." Kai smiled up at Qing yuan, and he returned it. As they walked side by side, can't wait for the adventures ahead.

May stood afar, watching as her family embraced one another in family hugs without her. 'What is so special about that little brat?' She angrily thought. "Just because he has some little fairy ability, they abandoned me. How idiotic and shameless of them. I am their daughter by blood. How dare they treat me like this, especially when I am the one who will make them enjoy the good life. I would give anything to see that little brat Kai, fall."

Feng Gao, who was nearby, heard May's little rant, and a brilliant idea popped into his head. Maybe he could use her to get closer to Kai. A sinister smile spread across his lips as he approached May. It's time to put his plan into action.
