Chapter 1 - The Beginning

A quick note about this story.

Everything in this story is from my imagination, and is nowhere related to anyone in reality. And if it does, well it's coincidental. I am a huge fan of historical Asian dramas, so I decided to try something new.

Ok, end of A/N And on to the story.8

Deep into the night, in a quiet little village in the western part of the Phoenix kingdom. In an old cottage, a young widow  wraps her new born baby tightly in worn out bath cloth, as she whispers a tale to him.

"He was the best of all the prospectors, and always assisted the kings of the seven kingdoms.

The prospectors, as they are known, were the clan that omit pure and cleansing powers. And your father was the most powerful of them all. He holds the power of the Lotus aura, and the only prospector that could cleanse the evil from the blood moon's orb. But his loyal and most trustworthy friend from the monsoon isles betrayed him, and handed the orb to the most ruthless and evil man of two decades. He slayed a few prospectors and many Mages and Elementalists, just to get to your father and the aura he holds above all. But my Wang Feng-Huang, your brave father, wouldn't let the shadow take it. Instead, he hid us here, and fight for the good of us all. And when he saw that he doesn't have much fight left in him, he transferred all that he had left to you. Our sweet and precious son.

But now, I sense that we are in grave danger. And I won't be around to protect you my son.

The widow cried as the wind took speed, and she can feel that her end is near. "Never surrender to anyone, always be brave." The rickety windows rattle, and the spooky howl of the wind made the baby whimper. But his mother shushed him with a tender kiss on his forehead.

"Oh my sweet baby boy, you don't know how special you are. And you can't imagine the great power inside you, and the great evil in the world that wants to take it from you." The mother held her baby tight one last time, before placing him in his little cot and chanted a small prayer when she felt the dark aura that surrounded her home.

The baby looks up at his mother's face, as if he can sense his mother's fear and sadness. As if he can sense the great danger that lurks outside the one room dwelling, but he is just a baby. Not even a day old, what he does but focuses on the unknown.

"They want what you have, but I won't let them take it from you. You are destined for greatness," The wind howled louder, and the widow heard the dark whisper of what's travelling in it. Her time with her baby is almost up. "And I will always be there to protect you! Your father and I!" The wooden door slammed open, and the darkness charged in. " Whatever you do, never let anyone know who you are. My warning might not mean anything to you now," tears run down her cheeks as she started to shiver. "...but never let evil take you." The darkness surround her, and a shadowy hand reach out and grab her, as she scream to her baby. "I love you my son, and I will protect you for all of eternity!" She

kissed her fore finger and then blew the  kiss to her baby, chanting a spell so that the baby could become invisible to the shadow. Her sobs fades as the darkness consumes her in its dark core, before dissipating in the dark night.

When everything had calmed down, the baby became visible again. And his loud terrifying wails could be heard throughout the night.

16 years later

(The Royal grounds of the Dragon kingdom)

Wang Kai quickly mocked the royal stables, so he could go and watch the royal guards and disciples train in the courtyard. It was one of the greatest things he adored from being a stable boy on the royal ground. That and being in the princess' presence of course.

Kai was adopted by a well known blacksmith and his wife, who is a cook in the royal kitchen. They had told him the story of how he was found by a farmer who was passing by a stream, and saw him abandoned in the bushes.

Anyway, he didn't dwell on the story. He was just glad that the Wang family took him in, and he could get the honour to bear their name.

Kai stocks the hay for the horses to eat, while at that exact moment the drums start to beat, signalling that something very important is about to go down.

Kai places the shovel neatly in a pile, before running from the stables, and ignoring the shout Won Jun, the overseer of the grounds keeps.

"Wang Kai, get back here!" Won Jun shouted in annoyance. His eyes burn with anger and his lips hold a sneer, as the unruly boy he has to indulge with everyday, turns to face him with a mocking smile and gives him a mocking salute instead of the common bow of respect.

You little devil!" Won Jun snarled at the laughing boy.

" Now Won Jun, it's not nice to call other people names." Kai tsk like he was scowling a young child. "And I am anything but the devil."

"You!" Won Jun shouted as Kai turned to run away again, but stopped short of his words, when a farmer who delivers vegetables to the palace, lost control of his cabbage cart and it came right at the young boy. Won Jun' s eyes and mouth opened wide in shock, when he suddenly saw Kai leap ten feet into the air and flip over the runaway cart.

'H-how?' Won Jun thought. Only people born with magic, the majestic aura to be precise can do moves like those. And those people always have a high status, unlike mediocre people like him and all the rest that either work for the royals, or regular people going about their business. But Kai is just as mediocre, with his waist length black, which is a regular thing for most of the men in the seven kingdoms and also from the Nitherlands. But Kai's hair had streaks of silver and gold before the boy tye-dyed it. He has a slight feminine figure, but such a boyish and rugged attitude that either gets him in trouble or amuses people. His clothes are always dirty from his daily work and most of the time from hiding in the hay and mud holes when he does something to anger Won Jun. But those moves, they weren't from anyone as common as Kai and Won Jun himself. But Won Jun didn't ponder on the issue any longer, because Kai flipped him the bird before scurrying off with an amusing chuckle.

"Wang Kai, I will get you one day!" Won Jun yelled.
