Chapter 52 - Winning a Battle

Kayla and her group went into the bedroom area and surprised Vincent. However it was no easy fight and Pat was bleeding horribly from the wound in his chest. Vincent having tried to rip his heart out from him.

Vincent was bleeding as well. His eyes red tracking them, and there were burn marks on him from where holy water had hit him. He had more claws than hands. Even from here they could hear the destruction happening in the other room. Odd sounds coming from there that weren't normal. Like wild animals were screeching at each other.

Kayla ducked as Neil was tossed into the wall hard. She darted past the door, she caught a glimpse of what was going on out in the other room. Savon looked more acolyte than anything else. The other one was definitely something close to what he was.

"I'm sick of this." Vincent said and leapt forward grabbing Louis. Kayla was closest and swung hard as he bit down on Louis's neck. Louis let out a horrid scream. Kayla cried out slamming her blade into Vincent's upper back.

Vincent made an unearthly sound. Jonas came forward and stuck a blade right through him. Black blood pouring out of the wound and onto the floor. He tossed Jonas into the window cracking it. He fell to the floor not moving.

Kayla backed up with Louis who was holding his throat. Neil got up moving with them. Vincent pulled the blade out. His skin was growing more pale with the more blood he lost and they knew he was getting close to feral. If he wasn't already.

Vincent rushed them and hit Neil back into the wall. Then hit Kayla sending her through the door and across the debris coated floor. Louis followed her a second later and Vincent launched himself through the door and onto Louis. The smell of his blood calling to him, he was starved.

Kayla rolled just missing having the acolyte's foot step on her. She came back and leapt toward Vincent. She pulled out her gun and aimed it. He moved on her and her shot hit him high in the shoulder. Jonas came into the room having come too. He fired as well at Vincent who hit Kayla and sent her across the floor.

Vincent grabbed her. His teeth jagged and pointed. He pulled her to him and up. She pulled the small blade that she had but he twisted her arm nearly to the breaking point and she dropped it. He leaned forward and his teeth sank into her shoulder and neck. She let out a scream of pain. It was unlike anything that she'd felt before.

It burned like acid entering her skin, and she struggled. She fought, she didn't let his mind in. Didn't let him have control. She knew the feel of another's mind touching hers. She would allow no other in her head but Savon. His touch wasn't like this, he didn't make her feel pain like this one was doing.

She was jerked to the side with Vincent as they were both hit by Neil and Jonas. They went to the ground, and Vincent growled. He let out a ear piercing screech, but was pulled away before he could get any of them.

It happened so fast, he was pulled away from them and up. With one swift swing his head was taken from his shoulders and he fell to the ground. His body turning to an odd black burnt color. Savon moved in front of them to face the other man having taken care of Vincent.

"Eth um nat cur onu ritch ak. Por un onu ak y." Said the other acolyte facing them. Or that was what it sounded like. None of them had any idea what sound he was making, were they even words?

"What is he saying?" Neil asked, they just kept their eyes on them. It was the fact that Savon responded that had them puzzled. Clearly something had been said.

____Savon____

"It is foolish that you protect the humans. They care nothing for you." Porui said speaking their real language. The only one that mattered.

"I will do as I please. You are not my master." Savon said and moved to engage him. He was fast, and counteracted any attack that Porui tried with his mind. It seemed that being an acolyte of learning was not such a bad thing.

"He must know what you are." Porui snapped. "The marking doesn't lie!"

"Then you are mistaken, for he has seen it." Savon said and got a solid hit on his side. His blade sinking deep. He jerked it out and blood hit the floor. Angered now and wanting to win. Porui came at him and knocked one of his blades away.

They went down to the floor rolling and fought hand and fist. Their hits enough to shatter bone had they been human. As it was they were causing severe damage to each other. The door to the room swung open and Lust stood there looking at the chaos that was in the room. She saw Vincent dead, and the two of them fighting with the humans ready to fight as well.

Jonas spotted her first and ran toward her. She had a very dark look on her face at Vincent's dead body. She turned and ran from the room. She was fast, and Neil along with Louis ran after Jonas shouting for him to stop.

Kayla was left with Pat, who was barely managing to stand with her help. She set him down. She couldn't tell at the moment if Savon was winning or loosing. They were both bleeding horribly. She grabbed one of the undamaged glass bottles of holy water they had and moved forward.

"I will rip the acolyte from you if I have too!" The one she didn't know said in a language she knew. He was on top at the moment. His hands claws and he went at Savon's flesh with them. Tearing it like it was nothing. Kayla didn't think, she just darted forward and grabbed him by the hair.

With a fluid nonstop motion, she slammed the bottle into his face with as much force as she could. It shattered and the water splashed out getting over his face, into his eyes and mouth. He screeched in pain. It looked like acid was eating at his skin.

Savon turned his face away and closed his eyes as the water hit him. He felt the instant retreat of his acolyte part. The burning on his skin stopped. Over his marking it still burned and it moved on his skin trying to get away from where the water was sitting. It didn't burn like it should, but it still hurt. His skin didn't blister, wasn't eaten away like this one's was.

Porui struck out and hit Kayla sending her to the floor and sliding to a stop near the window. She moaned in pain, but Savon had what he needed and flipped Porui over. He grabbed the blade that he had, the acolyte wasn't going to be able to see with the holy water in his eyes. Savon shoved his blade into his neck and wrenched it to the side. Then doing it again to sever his head. He stood up slowly, his eyes brighter again and moved over to Kayla who was sitting up.

"Are you okay?" He asked her. She touched her arm and winced, he saw the horrible wound on her shoulder and neck. Anger at the sight of it was sharp and deadly. He didn't like the sight of it, didn't like to see her damaged and hurt.

'We should kill him again.'

'If only.'

"I'll live, I think." She said with a bit of a laugh.

'We have to heal it. She will bleed and daemons can inject corrosive poison into a wound.' Savon was surprised that his other half cared to bring the knowledge forward. That it wanted to help her.

'We are one and the same, there is no me with out you. You need her, there for I do as well. Rationale is sometimes better than feral.' It did say the last part in a grumble. Like it was loathed to admit it.

'How?' He said to it, and he felt that part of his mind struggling very hard to remember. It was like walking through thick tar. Memories and knowledge from a life that didn't exist anymore, What Porui had said and did had woke that part of him up.

'Let me forward.' Savon didn't hesitate because he knew that he only wanted to heal her.

"This wound may kill you." He said. "Daemons are venomous." Kayla felt the panic rise. She saw his eyes snap to a bright green and he leaned forward.

"What are you doing?" She said to him.

"I have to get it out, it's not poisonous to me." He pulled her head to the side and closed his mouth over the wound there. Kayla felt the pull of his mouth. He was pulling the blood out of her and she felt it. Oddly felt the burning moving backward through the wound. Was that even physically possible? After a minute he made an odd sound and she felt something weird slide against her wound. It hurt a bit and she winced but didn't fight him.

Savon raised his head, and looked down at the wound. He seemed satisfied with it. Kayla felt very light headed, and swayed where she was sitting.

"You've lost a lot of blood." He said and she felt like closing her eyes and going to sleep.

"Uh huh." She said and slid sideways, she felt him catch her. Something was forced against her mouth and her head tipped back. What tasted like hot citrus and copper filled her mouth. It was thick and had an odd consistency.

"You need it, swallow." He said to her, she did as he asked and it was like having adrenaline pumped into you. Her eyes snapped open as his blood hit her stomach. She gripped his arm pulling more in. However her brain started to catch up with her and she pulled her mouth away. She said the first thing that came to mind.

"What'd you do?" She asked, because she suddenly felt like she could run for miles and not stop. It terrified her at the moment, it was so sudden and sharp.

"I took out the venom and gave you some of my blood." Clearly rules for venom with demons was different huh?

"But you've lost so much, was that smart?" She asked, what would happen to him then? His eyes went from bright green to the darker shade. He smiled slightly and curved a hand around her neck.

"I just fed you blood like a drug and you are worried I might have given to much?"

"You're wounded and I saw the amount that you lost. What..." He just silenced her by kissing her. He didn't care where they were or what was going on. He was quiet possibly the luckiest man in existence. At least that was how he felt right now. For no reason at all, everything just kind of clicked for him in this moment. He could believe all that she had told him. That she existed and was real was the part he was having a problem with.

"You are beautiful to me." He meant that on so many different levels.

"You have the oddest reactions. In the strangest and possibly worst places." Kayla said with a smile and moved to stand. She looked over by Pat.

"Can you help him like me?" He was still breathing but passed out at the moment. Savon found that he didn't really want to help the man. But because she asked he would. Only for her.

"Maybe." He said and crouched down.

'I find him a waste of our energy, we need to feed.'

'We can't leave him.'

'We could if we moved fast enough.' Savon felt a twitch of a smile. He crouched down and then cupped his hands putting his mouth close to them. He made a very odd sound again and Kayla made a face when he spit a rather large amount into his hands. It was clear but still disgusting.

"Did you spit into my wound?" She asked trying to look at it. He glanced at her.

"Are you seriously bitching about what I did?" Looking at it the spit looked more like thick mucus. It was disgusting.

"No, just some times it's better to not know." Savon leaned forward and put his hands to the wound pressing hard and holding his hands there for a minute. Pat jerked awake at the touch and made a painful sound, but he was to weak to fight.

"How do you think the wounds heal so fast when I bite you?" He said.

"Not all of them do." She mumbled touching her chest for a second. He gave a bit of a smile looking at Pat's chest.

"Depends if I want them too." She glared at the back of his head.

"Controlling in everything." She said aggravated. They heard running down the hall. In came the others.

"You like it." Pat was looking at them, but didn't seem to comprehend what they were saying. He'd be fine without the blood. Savon wasn't sharing that with others, it was a precious commodity to him.

"We have to go!" Neil said, Savon just grabbed Pat lifting him and ran from the room. They hit the stairwell and went down fast. They came to a few demons that were coming up, but they made quick work of them. Savon didn't care if others knew he was here. Astor wasn't close this time.

They were out the building and running across the road. They went into the building there. No one having seen them on the street. Savon put Pat down and Neil moved over to check him. Kayla was looking at Louis's wound. They were in a safe spot unnoticed for the moment as others were now starting to either enter or exit the building across the way.

Savon came over by Louis and touched the wound. There was venom in it, not a horrible amount like Kayla but if left it might kill him. Or make for a very hard time. He wasn't in danger of needing blood either. Kayla had been because hers had been worse, and he'd fed from her several times earlier.

"I can remove the venom if you want." Savon offered. Louis was touching his shoulder, and looked at Kayla. Her shoulder was halfway healed and closing quickly.

"Like hers?"

"Similar." He said.

"It burns bad. I don't know if I can take it much longer." He said. "What do you have to do?"

"Suck it out." He told him. Not his favorite thing to do to a man, but it would be impersonal and quick. Plus he'd get a fix of blood.

"Uh, how?" Savon just stared at him. Louis looked uncomfortable. "Oh."

"You won't feel anything really. I'm not them."

"What happens if I leave it?" He asked.

"It could kill you, or just make the next week one you spent wishing you'd either accepted what I offered or had died in the fight." Louis gave a nod.

"You won't do anything?"

"I won't let him. If that makes you feel better." Kayla said with a smile. She pointed to her wound. "I'm still here."

"I guess." He said with a bit of a smile.

"Hold on, you're just going to let him do it? He's like one of those fucking things and no one has a problem with that?" Jonas nearly shouted.

"Shut....up." Pat managed to say rather forcefully for a weak and injured man. "He has saved at least half this group's life personally." He said his eyes hooded. Neil had a firm line set to his lips. He agreed and as of right now he was slowly starting to see that having Savon was not a bad thing.

He could have done so much damage to them by now and hadn't. Didn't mean he wanted to be his friend. There was only so many times that you were proven wrong before you saw that you were the one being ignorant. Plus Jonas really brought that to light for him. Had he sounded like that jackass? He felt like an idiot just hearing him.

"So? How do we know he isn't using us?" Jonas stated. Savon ignored him like he wasn't there.

"I don't want the pain, and I'm willing to go on a little faith here. This hurts like hell and I was just bitten." He looked at Savon. "Please if you would."

Savon just motioned for him to follow and he did. He wasn't in the mood for an audience. Louis wouldn't mind the privacy either. He just took over the part of his mind that he needed to and did what was required of him.
