Wen Yu spent the next few days, holed up in his dorm room, going through massive amounts of information on the evolution of the Mechas of the various Federations.
Starting from as early as the first generation Mechas. He planned to leave no stone unturned as he transfered the information to his brain.
He also took out time to ponder over other subjects like Science and Math and sometimes, materials on military strategies.
Mostly studying famous military strategies as he didn't have time to go in depth before the first assessment.
Learning at first was a chore to Wen Yu and it was either he got bored or developed headaches. His past self wasn't really studious and disdained schooling but he had no choice but to press on now.
What he couldn't comprehend on his first try, he did on his second or third try. He was basically one with his light brain at this point. The device was almost an extension of his forehead.
His persistence actually paid off as he began to realize his speed at comprehension increased and it was also a way to hone his quick thinking ability.
He was immensely proud of his little achievement, after all, who would have thought that him, of all people, could be this invested in learning? But what could he do?
Since he couldn't become strong himself then he'd make sure to be so valuable as a Mecha engineer that the strong would have no choice but to give in to him. Expert Mecha operators were always rushing over to grab genius engineers for themselves.
Who would be stupid enough to go against a Mecha engineer? If they were dissatisfied, they could tweak a couple of mechanisms in your Mecha and have you blow up entirely!
Wen Yu only took a break for meals, sleep and his daily dose of milk.
Qi San and Huo Lan accompanied him from time to time when they weren't in the training hall. In their hearts they felt inadequate.
Their big bro Yu was already an assimilation genius but he still worked this hard, it made them feel ashamed.
If Wen Yu knew what went on in their minds as they rushed over themselves to please him, he'd have surely puked blood.
On this particular day, he was dismantling a holographic version of a Primary Mecha prototype from the Fang Federation. The attendant boy was asleep in his bed.
Well he looked asleep, Wen Yu didn't really know. He had a feeling the boy never slept much and it was surprising to see him less busy with nothing to do today.
Usually, he woke up the earliest amongst them and came back latest. Wen Yu finally coupled the various parts of the Mecha and stretched his limbs.
It seemed he'd been inside for too long, he even had his meals delivered to his dorm this past few days. It was time to take a stroll lest he developed muscle dystrophy.
He also didn't want to get into unnecessary trouble. Cadets were only allowed to have their meals delivered for a few days in a week. He'd run out of delivery days.
He looked over to the attendant boy again and against his better judgement, he decided to take a peek before leaving.
Step by step, he moved up the ladder by the side of the bunk bed and slowly reached the top bunk.
The boy was really asleep with his hair all over the place. He was so skinny and it seemed he was having a bad dream, he kept tossing about.
Wen Yu poked the kid's creased brows. Such a little child but already thinking so much, it must be really unfortunate to accompany that Han family's kid.
He was about to withdraw his hand when the kid woke up. The attendant boy did not even think twice before quickly kicking Wen Yu off the ladder.
Wen Yu groaned as he hit the ground. This was his punishment for being nosy. What made him think peeping at a sleeping kid was a good idea? He was only curious ah.
The kid peeked over the bed and when he saw Wen Yu sprawled on the ground, his eyes widened. It wasn't a dream.
He quickly climbed down the bunk and walked over to Wen Yu, making sure to keep some distance between them.
"Are you okay?"
His milky voice was really low and Wen Yu kept wondering if he was having auditory hallucination as he got himself in a sitting position.
"You're not dumb?" The kid was always so silent they all thought he had some sort of speech impairment.
The boy pursed his lips and shook his head.
Qi San and Huo Lan walked in then. He had no idea when those two became best friends, always going everywhere together even though they had opposite personalities and always ended up arguing.
"AHH! Big bro Yu what happened? Why are you on the ground?" Qi San shot the attendant boy a dirty look as he walked over to pull Wen Yu up.
The boy made him very uncomfortable. He was always silent and had this look that called everyone idiots. He was also working for that Han family kid. So annoying.
Huo Lan just shrunk his neck and moved to the wall to stand and pretend he didn't exist. The silent boy always had a fierce look on his face. So scary.
Wen Yu shrugged Qi San's hand off and stood up on his own. He looked to the boy.
"What's your name?"
The boy opened and closed his mouth repeatedly before directly walking out of the room.
Qi San humphed. "So arrogant. Who is he putting up a show for? If he's so cool why doesn't he stand up to that Han boy who always treats him like trash?"
Wen Yu just shrugged as he grabbed a milk packet and walked out of the room. The two boys quickly followed after.
"Big bro Yu are you finally free? Where are you headed? Are you going to the training hall?"
Wen Yu groaned and placed a palm over Qi San's lips. "First of all, I am not your big bro Yu and secondly, I'm hungry so I'm going to the canteen now can you both stop following me?"
"Big bro Yu don't be like that. We're also going to the canteen to eat.."
"But we just at-" Qi San turned around and slapped a palm over Huo Lan's loud mouth and eyed him with an angry pout before turning back to smile at Wen Yu.
"Big bro Yu come on, us roommates need to take care of each other in this dog eat dog world."
Wen Yu just ignored his nonsense and walked off to the canteen. He'd only been in this canteen once since he came into Lingxiu and the environment was quite comfortable.
The food was also top notch. As expected of a top school. The canteen was divided into various levels with each representing the cadets' level of seniority.
There was also the special area for the high achieving cadets situated at the very top whilst the pre-enrolled cadets occupied the lowest level being the ground floor.
The moment Wen Yu walked into the canteen, the noisy kids all went silent. Wen Yu froze a bit before continuing. Countless pairs of limpid eyes followed his movements.
Wen Yu whispered to Qi San besides him, "What is this? Why are they staring at me like that?"
Qi San puffed his chest and declared proudly with a clenched fist. "Must be because of the rumours."
Wen Yu sipped on his milk and gave Qi San a questioning look.
"They all found out that big bro Yu deflected the spirit energy of a senior in the Azure Phase!" Huo Lan whispered excitedly.
The straw popped out of Wen Yu's open mouth: '...' Huh? What deflection? When did they see him deflect anything? Who started this stupid rumour?!
