Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 - Purists

The next day Lorcan went to find Maeisha in her room. According to his parents she didn't leave her room except for meals and weapon training with his father.

He would be leaving for Battle School tomorrow and before leaving he wanted to prepare her for it even though he wasn't allowed to disclose much about school.

Actually he just wanted to spend some time with his sister. Rhys had taken all his sister's attention at the arcade. Bastard!!

Yesterday when his sister had thanked him and his friends for spending time with her he had a feeling that she wasn't thanking him for giving her a fun filled day but for something else.

His parents had told him about her speed of learning. Even if she was a genius, her speed of learning was too fast.

Maei's master must have given her or taught her something for her to have such a fast learning speed. Though he didn't know what, he knew his sister had some secrets.

Secrets she hasn't told anyone.

He didn't know if it was because she didn't trust them or if she was scared of bringing them trouble.

Lorcan didn't care what secret his baby girl had. All he cared was that she be safe, if she had any secrets, as her elder brother he would help her conceal it. That is what a family does.

So he had to warn his sister indirectly to be a bit low key in school. He didn't want his sister to be in trouble, not by The Empire but by the purists.

He knocked on her door and went in after being pinged in.

He found her in her study just like his parents had told him.

Mama Lena had already moved into her own room and had taken charge of the estate's nursery.

"What are doing Baby girl? I heard that you finished learning the curriculum for the entrance exam." he asked her.

Maei was happy to see her brother coming to see her. She was even more happy that she had someone who cared about how she was doing.

"Yes brother. I have finished my studies till level 2."

Lorcan was surprised, "Level 2? But you only had to study till level 1. why did you study till level 2?"

"Brother level 1 studies were too easy. I finished it in 2 weeks time. Father had paid the tutors for 2 months so I took advantage of it and learned the level 2 studies as well. Did I do something wrong brother." She asked after seeing her brother with a frown on his face.

'She only thought that learning till level 2 would give her an advantage over her classmates. She didn't have any other thoughts, but after seeing her brother frowning, was she too hasty?'

"Baby I know you are working so hard because you want to make us proud but you don't need to run so fast. All we want is for you to be safe and happy. You have all the time in the world to learn. You will soon be going to Battle School and being grandfather's grandchild there will be many eyes on you. So remember to be humble and low-key."

That is when she understood. She almost made a big blunder. Thank goodness elder brother reminded her otherwise she would have forgotten that her grandfather was the 3rd minister of The Empire.

There were people who were trying to find her grandfather's weakness. Not just his but also the other ministers.

These people were called the Purists.

Purists were those who wanted the world to go back as it was during the waring years. They wanted the world to be chaos so that they could take advantage of it and rise as warlords.

They were different from the Traditionalist Humans who only wanted their bloodlines to be pure and not be mixed with other races.

Purists were terrorists who attacked the worlds leaders and their children so that they could blackmail them and instill fear in them.

There were spies among The Empire who worked for these Purists. The Empire was taking drastic measures to ensure that they were removed and no information could be passed onto them. It was also one the reasons they were imposing and developing their technology.

Elder brother was warning her against these spies and didn't want her to be targeted by them.

The purists had a habit of killing or injuring The Empires best and brightest individuals.

Even with regular and strict screening some spies had ability that they were not easily uncovered.

Elder brother telling her to be lowkey was not because they were scared of them but because they were The Empires trump cards. Only by living and being safe would they be able to destroy them.

"I understand Elder brother."

Lorcan was amazed at his sister's broadness of mind. If he had said the same thing to Cian, he would have had to face countless questions of why? how? and what?

"Now let me tell you about Battle School. You already know that there are some things I can't tell you. What I can tell you is that Battle school is not about individualism. Its about being a team. Its about being stronger and better as a team. Yes you have to work hard to make sure that you are strong but its just as important that your team is just as strong as you. They will be the one's you will be doing your future missions with, the one's you will fight the enemies with side by side."

"More importantly learn what you want. Take bold steps and risks. Don't fear anything, You have your family to back you. Bravery is not the absence of fear. Bravery is feeling the fear, the doubt, the insecurity and deciding that something else is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever but the cautious don't live at all." Lorcan ended.

By the time Lorcan ended his speech Maei was looking at him with heart eyes, which greatly appeased his vanity. Lorcan posed even more handsomely so that his sister could praise him.

"Yes. I will remember." She said passionately, looking even more forward to going to Battle School...
