Chapter 5 - Life Of A Villain

As I stood at the entrance of the dining room, my feelings turned quite complex, I wasn't sure of what to think.

Why?

Because what appeared before me was not a room, IT WAS A GODDAMM HALL.

And magnificent at that.

However, I have decided not to bitch about the extravagance of the hall or... room, whatever the fuck it was and just accept it as a part of a noble's pretence.

After all, nobles are beings who like to show themselves as a superior existence, different from the existence of a commoner.

And to accomplish such a feat they need a prop, something that can prove their hegemony, which in this case is a powerful awakened class, preferably a warrior-related class.

It won't even matter if you have a high rank if you don't possess a practical class.

High-ranked skills are another factor which decides the fate of a person and the status one possesses. And is something that can be used, even when one doesn't possess a practical class.

But specifically speaking, an awakened class is a lot more important than a high-ranked skill.

However, not all nobles are skilled warriors who possess a powerful class, a lot of them are basically the trashes of society with a low rank resulting them in possessing low-ranked skills and are people with little to no fighting experience.

It is quite hard to awaken a class and it is even harder to Awaken a practical class.

However, once the class is awakened, the individual can view his/her status window.

Most of the commoners can't Awaken a class, even in a lifetime, but they do possess 2-3 skills since birth, but since the path of an unawakened is quite hard, only a few were able to climb up the rank.

Whereas nobles are guaranteed to Awaken a class at the age of 16 because of their ancestral bloodline. Nonetheless, the difficulty to awaken a powerful class with a practical use doesn't lose in comparison to that of a commoner.

And without any class or high-ranked skill, a person is practically worthless in this world. that is even more true if you have a high standing.

No one will respect and follow someone with no capabilities, not even their respective clan.

That's why status became one of the factors that can ascertain one's supremacy. And extravagance became the facet to exhibit one's status.

And it's not like I have to pay for any of this flamboyance.

'If only I wasn't a villain I could have relished all these luxuries as the son of one of the highest-ranked aristocrats.'

My thoughts were quite apparent as I scrutinized everything present before me. There were a few statues placed on both sides of the foyer symmetrically, I can't help but gape at the glamour of these statues that appeared semi-realistic in nature.

Other than that there were a few Chandler's in the dining hall placed at specific spots of the hall to maximize its splendour.

There was some other advanced equipment.

However, I can't seem to identify their potency as I do not know the tech of this world as it wasn't depicted in the novel.

After all, it isn't something a reader would like to read.

For an instance, I seemed to have forgotten about the existence of everyone else present in this room.

There was only this hall and me.

"Lykus"

Just when I was inside my own fantasy land, Suddenly, I heard a voice calling out my name, making me come out of my stupor.

The voice belonged to a male and even though it just called out my name, it has a distinct trait that only a leader possesses- Authority.

I don't even need to look at the person to know who is the owner of such a regal voice.

Austin Ulfred, the current head of Clan Ulfred and one of the few S-Ranked humans all over the kingdom.

And from now on, he is the person whom I am going to call... Father.

"Lykus, come and have dinner."

This time the one who called out to me was not my father but someone else...

Calvin Ulfred, the older brother of Lykus, and the apparent candidate to be the successive head of Clan Ulfred.

After all, no sane individual would leave a clan at the hands of someone trashy like Lykus.

According to the novel, Calvin should be 23 years old right now, as he was said to be 8 years older than me.

Other than that I have... little to no information regarding him. His characteristics? His traits? His skills? His awakened class? His rank? Or his personality?

Nothing.

I am not even aware if he is an antagonist or a potential ally for the protagonist.

And It's not my fault that I am unaware of such information. After all, there was not much description of him in the novel, at least not in the first 6 volumes that I have read.

However, looking at his handsome and gentle appearance that doesn't look threatening in the least, I felt a surge of menace oozing from him.

I made a mental note not to interact with him at this point in the story.

At the very least I would like to have the least amount of interaction with him.

If someone asked me who is the most alarming person present in this room, hands down I would point at him. He looked even more ominous than the woman who sat next to my father- Cassandra Ulfred.

The first and official wife of Austin Ulfred, and my sweet mother.

As I looked at her she appeared the same as it was depicted in the novel. Red crimson hair and a pair of angelic blue eyes. Her age should be 43 years old according to the novel.

To summarise, she looked beautiful. However, she Isn't beautiful enough to be described as a piece of art or an unearthly beauty that can shake the heaven or some utter bullshit.

Now onto her character setting, you can consider her a minor villain as she wasn't a nuisance for the protagonist but was an inconvenience in the growth of a future ally- Alishia Ulfred.

-Groooowwl

While I was thinking about all this stuff, my stomach grumbled loudly as if instructing me to munch all those delicacies present on the enormous dining table.

And since I am in the body of Lykus Ulfred, I feel immense hunger, I felt I could eat a ton and won't even budge.

But it's not strange if I did, Lykus used to eat a shit ton of food and here I am, haven't even eaten anything since I reincarnated.

So without wasting any more time, I sat on a seat that the servant pulled out for me and started to gobble the delicacies present before me, Ignoring the existence of everyone else.

....

"Haah..."

After eating all those delicacies I let out a satisfied sigh.

Nobody complained about the way I dined nor did they feel disgusted. It seems like it was a usual site for them to see me act in such an ill-mannered way.

I didn't know what the dishes were called or what ingredients were used? But it was delicious, nonetheless.

Now that I have devoured the food, I can glance at an individual, whose existence I have completely disregarded.

It wasn't that I haven't noticed her presence before but it was more like I didn't care about her existence at that moment.

Now the point is, why I did do that?

It was definitely something I wouldn't have done in normal circumstances, I am not stupid enough to disregard the existence of someone with great importance in the novel, just for some food.

However, after giving it a thought, I decided to ignore that fact and just take it as my intuitive response toward those dishes.

Moving on, the person I was talking about was none other than... my little sister Alishia or should I say, half-sister.

After staring at her for a few seconds, all I can say is that the novel didn't do justice to her appearance.

She appeared a lot more beautiful than in the illustrations I have seen of her.

Alishia Ulfred, even though she has the same last name as Clan Ulfred, no one really considers her a part of Clan Ulfred.

Alishia has long black hair that trickled down from her neck and reached her lower back, which perfectly complemented her amethyst-purple eyes.

The look on her face was aloof and indifferent as if she didn't care for anything or anyone. Her personality seemed that of cold and aloof beauty.

She is 15-years-old, the same age as me but with the difference of me being 3 months older than her.

And she is also one of the named characters in the novel [ The Last of Legends].

Talking about her past depicted in the novel... All I can say is...

Cliche.

Cough. Cough

What I meant is... Tragic.

Born as the daughter of a lowly maid, she has to go through a lot of hurdles and humiliation.

Alishia is the daughter of Austin and a maid named Angela Masrick. She was one of the maids who used to work at Austin's manor. It is rumoured that Angela bewitched Austin through her beauty and the result of that is Alishia.

However, that's just a baseless accusation made by nobles as they couldn't digest the fact that a maid is going to earn the same status as them.

The truth can't be too far-fetched and cliche, It was Austin who forced himself on Angela.

Even though Angela knew the result might be disastrous, she can't go against the wishes of a powerhouse like Austin.

The story after that is just more and more cliche!

After giving birth to Alishia, Angela died! The scumbag Austin accused poor Alishia of her mother's demise.

The shitty nobles recognized this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to insult, disregard and step on someone with the status of Clan Ulfred.

After all, In a world where power and status are everything, who doesn't want to step on someone who was once superior.

So they did the obvious and targeted Alishia and didn't live a chance to humiliate her, the same with my mother- Cassandra.

As a proud wife of Austin Ulfred, how can she let go of the daughter of that filthy maid who bewitched her husband? So she did everything in her power to make Alishia's life worse.

Alishia who was left alone in the care of a maid became the outlet of everyone's hatred and with time she started to grow frigid and distant, granting her current personality.
