Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - I'm a... What?

The bell rang and we moved onto our next period. Lucas and I once again buddied up and chose to sit next to each other in class. We were making faces at each other and just being stupid as the bell rang. We stopped and the teacher began his boring introduction. I pulled my phone out and hid it behind the spine of my binder so the boring guy blabbing his mouth wouldn't see it. I unlocked my phone, opened the messaging app, and clicked on Lucas' name.

Hey Lucas!!

I hear Lucas' phone vibrate in his backpack (thanks werewolf hearing). He feels it and pulls out his phone as well. He hides his in the compartment of his desk and shoots me a reply:

Wazzup babyy?

I send him a glare as he winks at me with a smirk playing on his lips. I roll my eyes, but can't help smiling at how ridiculously cute he was acting. 'Wait... Did I just think that about Lucas? Oh God no!! He's my friend, no! Stop it Adelina!!' I scolded myself. I looked back at his text as the teacher's voice droned on in the background.

Can you believe we have 2 periods with the Queen? Ugh, fr...

Lucas looks at his phone and he looks up to see Ginger staring at him. He makes a disgusted face as she does a little wave with her hand. 'Talk about desperate...' That voice in my head said. As soon as the voice said it, Ginger snaps her head at me and shoots daggers at me with her glowing red eyes. I froze under her sight and gulped. 'There's no way she is hearing what I'm saying in my mind.' So I smiled at her and did the same wave as she did just a few seconds ago. She rolls her eyes and turns back towards the teacher. I hear Lucas clear his throat, so I looked over towards him. He flicks his eyes to where my phone was hiding. I got the hint and looked at the text he sent me:

I hate that look she gives me. Makes me feel.. idk... Disgusted? But I hate the look she gives you more. It's like she's trying to kill you with a look. She's not a Jedi last time I checked

I covered my mouth and laughed as quietly as I could. I look over at Lucas and just shake my head as I try to calm down. He just looks at me with a soft, warm look. Almost as if he's looking at something he loves? 'He's just weird. It's probably nothing.' I said to myself. I send him back a text:

LMAO!! She thinks she's so intimidating and a badass. But, her legs are open like a 24 hour drive thru

Once Lucas saw that, he was gone. He burst out laughing so loud that the teacher stopped talking and stared at us. Lucas was still laughing and I was staring at him like everyone else was so that way I don't get my phone taken away. This continues for a little while longer, so I decided to poke my best friend in the side. He looks at me and I nod my chin towards the teacher. Lucas sees the look the babbler is giving him and sits up straight. "What's so funny, Mr. Hunter?" 'Oh boy, we've been pinned..' I think as I glance over at Lucas, who is desperately trying to come up with some excuse to save himself.

"Ah, well see sir - I - I umm..." I want to smack my forehead so bad right now, but I fight the urge. 'This boy is such a bad liar, time to be the hero.' I stand up from my chair and say to the teacher, "Sir, it's my fault. I just told him about an incident with my friend. It's my fault for his outburst, and I want to say that we're sorry for interrupting the class." It was half true, so it wasn't hard for me to lie and save Lucas from dying under the gazes of everyone in the room. The teacher stared at us and hummed, "Well, save the stories for your own free time. Now, what was I saying? Oh yes, In-" I tuned out the teacher again and looked down at my phone to see a new notification. I open it and find it's a text from Lucas:

Thx for covering for me babes <3

He had to call me that. He just had to say that stupid nickname for me, huh?

Hey, I thought we had a deal!! You never call me one of those nicknames ever again!

I hear Lucas laugh and a few seconds later I see a new bubble show up on my screen reading:

Huh? Did we really? I seem to have forgotten... Oh well, guess I get to call you whatever I want now, BABE!! XD

I so desperately want to punch him in his side right now, but I can't and replied:

You freaking cheater.

Almost immediately, I get his reply:

But I'm loyal to you, ya big baby XD

I smiled at his words, but my smile faded. Something the teacher said had caught my attention, even though I had tuned him out. He said something about Naos, powerful beings in our world that either held powers from the Light of Heaven or the Flames of Hell. I turned off my phone and looked up at the board. On the board were 4 categories written in chalk: Vampires, Arc Angels, Demons, and Lycanthrope: The Nao classes, but what the hell is a Lycanthrope? That all wonderful tiny voice in my head said, 'Where do you think you belong? Which Nao are you? Do you really fit in anywhere?' That alone brought down my mood, but I kept my eyes on the board trying to concentrate on what the teacher was saying about the classes. I feel Lucas shift in his chair next to me. 'He knows I'm upset... Great.' He's always been able to see if I'm happy or not, so I can't hide my emotions around him no matter how hard I try. 'He won't be here for long~' That damn voice in my mind said. 'Would you shut up already?' I scolded it.

"The Lycanthrope Class is the newest immortal section. There is only one known Lycanthrope that was ever recorded. Authorities caught and recorded data on this particular Lycanthrope in September of 2011-" Wait... 'There's no way.' I said to myself. I sat up straighter and payed even more attention to him. I see Lucas watching me with concern out of the corner of my eye, but I can't focus on him. Especially when something like this happened around the same time I got bit by that large wolf. "A Lycanthrope is a being with super strength and speed. Even though they are new and there is only one ever caught, they are considered the most lethal Nao class known. A Lycanthrope can shift from man to wolf, and even in between-"

I can't listen anymore. Everything turns fuzzy and I start to hear a faint ringing in my ears that grows louder and louder with each passing second. 'I'm not... There's no way.. Is there? I mean... They caught one around the same time I got bit! That can't be a coincidence! Oh God, please let it be a crazy coincidence!' I begged in my mind. The little voice chimed in, 'You know what you are. You're a wolf person... You're not normal. There's something wrong with you~' I clapped my hands over my ears and told the voice to stop it, but it kept going. 'You're a Nao, Adelina. More specifically, a Lycanthrope. You're a beast. You're deadly... You'll hurt people.' I squeeze my eyes tighter and whisper, "Shut up."

I hear Lucas shift and he asks, "Adelina, are you okay..?" No I'm not. 'Think about who you're gonna hurt. Your parents, your teammates, your classmates, your coaches and teachers, yourself, Chase and Lucas. You'll hurt everyone around you. No one is safe. You're a beast straight from the gates of Hell. You have the Hell's Fire inside of you!! You are evil, Adelina!!' The voice screamed at me. "I said to shut up!" I whisper yelled to myself. Lucas put his hand on my shoulder and it startled me enough to pull me out of whatever state I was in. "You okay there, babes?" Lucas whispers to me. I can hear the worry and concern in his voice loud and clear, but I don't want him to worry about a monster like me. "I'm fine, I just developed a headache from this boring teacher." I smiled at him, hopefully it throws him off. He smiles back at me, but his eyes tell me that he doesn't fully believe me. The bell rings and we gather up our things to head over to our next period. Lucas finished before me and tells me that he'll wait for me in the hall. I continue to pack up my bag when suddenly a hand slams down onto the top of my textbook. Judging by the black acrylics and the white hand on top of it, I know exactly who it is. Great...

"Well, well, well, if it isn't the little mutt of the school! How are things going in the Hundred Acre Woods?" Ginger asked me coldly. I rolled my eyes and yanked my book out from under her hand. I casually threw it into my bag as I said, "First if all, there is no dog in the story of 'Winnie the Pooh' Ginger. Second, at least my nails are real enough to where I don't need to wear some plastic on my nails to paint them. And third, I wouldn't be trying to belittle a champion. Unlike you, my team brought home trophies for the trophy case. What did your team bring home again? Oh that's right! Sad little pom-poms and more dust bunnies for the Cheer Squad shelf." I always get angry at the sight of Ginger, but I'm trying to maintain my composure. I see her anger flare up, especially at the mention of her failing cheer team. 'Some cheer captain she is,' I snickered to myself.

"You better watch what you say, Mutt. Or else I'll tell the teacher why Lucas was really causing a distraction in class." She think she has me cornered. I roll my eyes at her again and say, "You may be popular, but no one likes a snitch, your royal fakeness." I push my way past her and head towards the door. 'Too easy,' the little voice in my head said. For once I agree, it was the perfect time to say that to her face. I smiled to myself.

But then, I feel a hard tug on my backpack. I turn around and see Ginger's hand come towards my face. Before I could do anything, she slaps me hard across my face, so hard that my lip busted open and started to bleed a little. A few students walking by heard the skin-to-skin contact and peeped into the room to see me holding my face and Ginger with her hand up about to hit me again. They could smell a fight coming on. They stood by the door, watching, waiting to see who was gonna make the next move. 'They won't have to wait long,' I thought to myself. I picked my head up and stared straight at Ginger, giving her the coldest and deadliest glare I could muster. It seemed to work because she turned whiter than her usual white, her cold face broke, and her hand lowered a bit. But, she stubbornly stood her ground.

"You want a fight? You got a fight, haole!" I yelled at her. I balled my fists up and went into a fighting stance. Ginger tried to mimic my stance, but she was off by miles. 'Pathetic,' I thought to myself as I threw a punch at her throat. It landed and made a satisfying THWACK sound. She stumbled back and began gasping for air. Her face turned red and her eyes bulged out. She looked like a fish out of water. The desks behind her crashed together as more students gathered by the classroom door and began to chant, "Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!"

My blood was boiling, the chanting grew louder and louder. It only fed my rage. I couldn't hear the voice in my head or my own thoughts anymore. I was losing control, slowly but surely. I could feel myself shifting into that wolf that's clawing it's way out of my body. I shove it back into its cage I made for it inside. Ginger regained herself and lunged at me. I was able to catch one of her hands, but her other hand scratched me across my face. The acrylics dug deep into my skin and over my eye, it began to bleed, forcing me to close my eye. It hurt, but I was not gonna lose to some acrylic wearing, egotistical Barbie doll. I dug my nails into the arm I caught and into her neck until I drew blood. She stopped trying to claw at me and began scratching my hands, trying to pry them away from her skin. She couldn't. I pressed down harder, causing more blood to come out, making her hiss in pain, and most importantly making me feel satisfied. 'This was long overdue...' I evilly cooed in my mind. "Let go of me, you mangy mutt!" She screamed at my face. I smiled a dark smile at her as I noticed tears streaming down her face. Even though she kept a cold, angry expression on, I knew I was hurting her enough to make her cry. This only made my dark smile grow. My violet eyes were shooting daggers into her red eyes. She shrunk back from me in fear, but it was only for a second.

"As you wish, your highness~" I coolly said to her. Then I threw her down to the ground. Her shoulder hit a chair and made a loud POP sound. The crowd made an "Oooh" sound and cringed at the thought of what could've made that sound from her joint. I, however, relished seeing her in pain. But then a thought hit me, 'I really am a monster... Straight from the gates of Hell...' that thought scared me. 'Told ya~' the tiny voice said to me. I was angry and I advanced toward Ginger again, but I felt strong arms grab me by my waist and lift me up in the air. I couldn't move. I just started swinging and kicking and screaming to be put down.
